Welcoming Maba 2017

Welmab is Stunica’s biannual activity, which is held by the department of Public Relation and the Department of Internal Affairs. Welmab was held on for two days in a different time, the first welmab, was for welcoming freshmen that got accepted from talent scouting, whereas the second welmab is for welcoming freshmen that got accepted from Simak UI. Welmab was held in Rotunda from 7 a.m until 3 p.m. The flow of the event goes with the freshmen that goes to the FKUI’s stand located in Balairung parking lots, over there they will be given an intro from BEM, and after that, they will be escorted to Stunica’s stand which is located in Rotunda and when the freshmen come to Stunica’s stand, of course we greet them with a warm welcome, we let them sit in our stand and then they will be given a presentation about Freshmen Orientation by Internal Affairs. After listening to the presentation, the freshmen will have to fill in a typeform, for our data collection and for contact purposes later on. After that, they will have to use the senior’s “Jakun”, and stand in front of the rektorat building, they will be photographed, these photos will be later used for their graduation picture on their later graduation out of FMUI. Afterwards, the freshmen can go home or they can get to know more about their seniors and ask their seniors about university life, wether it’s in academic setting or even the lifestyle of university student itself. It was a lot of fun while we were in welmab. Meeting new people, meeting freshmens, meeting the people from the stand beside us, meeting the OKK committee, and seeing a lot of new people that is not from RIK. Overall, it was a very great experience for me, and I hope it will be a great experience too for the freshmen of FMUI.

Wassup fellas! Greetings from the Sports and Arts Departement of STUNICA! On the 10th of September, we held an event called SPORTS DAY 2.0! Why is it 2.0? Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 2.0 because it is the second sports day of the year! WHY the 2nd you ask? BECAUSE THIS TIME, WE HAVE FRESHMEN FROM 2017!! Greetings to you guys! In this sports day, there were some interesting changes that has been made. The first and the most noticeable change was of course the PLACE! YES!

Believe it or not, weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve finally found a new place that is in Jakarta Selatan, since most of the people actually live in Jakarta Selatan and it has been highly recommended by the guys to increase the attendance. Also suitable for Sports Day. So where was it? It was in Walking Drums, the name may not sound very familiar but it was so comfy and fun. The next change is the sports! In this Sports Day, we added tennis and badminton to the event. AND THE LAST CHANGE WERE THE FRESHMAN! So as you know it, the second sports day has the purpose of having fun and also welcoming freshmen and introducing seniors that came to the event.

What was available in this sports day? There were futsal and basketball, the two most liked sports in this planet. The games were held for two hours and, surprisingly, this year basketball has the most interest as during the event those who played basketball almost doubled the amount of those who played futsal. Some seniors see a bright future in basketball and certainly have high hopes in this yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Dekan Cup and Inter-Cup. There was also tennis, with Heidi Satari as our guest star as she taught people who have interest and want to learn the sport. AND ALSO ZUMBA! WITH DINDA NISRINA, ALESIA MAUNA AND THIARA BRUNNER AS THE INSTRUCTORS. The girls and some of the boys sure had fun in the session!

BRIEFING

FRESHMAN ORIENTATION Freshmen Orientation is a series of events to help all FMUI students to get to know all they need to know for their upcoming years in medical school: academics, seniors, and friends from separate events: Briefing and Opening Freshman Orientation 2017! For FO briefing, it was held on 13 August 2017, in Building D1, RIK-UI. All freshmen, members and before the events started, some seniors and freshmen have some little talk in order for freshmen to feel that they are welcomed. And later, the event was started at 9am by an opening speech by our beloved president, Koko Kelvin Theandro Gotama. Afterwards, all of the seniors introduced themselves: name, their high school and their relationship status - followed by all 61 freshmen. It was really fun since all of the seniors and freshmen are really creative in introducing themselves with unique relationship statuses - and most importantly, seniors and freshmen were starting to bond with each other. Later on that day, I and Jessy Amelia, as the heads of FO, explained about all FO events and assignments. Following it, an event that is not less important, new batch of 2017 was choosing their batch and vice batch leader to lead them throughout the whole upcoming medical years. Congratulations to Hubert Jonathan, as batch leader of 2017 and Edward Yo, as vice batch leader of 2017. We hope that with their leaderships, batch 2017 could be achieve lots in medical school and be the best version of themselves. Briefing FO was ended at 12pm. Freshmen Orientation: Opening FO! It was also a part of Premodule Introduction, an event organised by Department of Academic. We had the opening on the near-end of Premodule Introduction. I and Jessy, re-explained all of the events of FO an choosed PJs from batch 2017 for these FO events: STUNICA Day, Batch Baksos and Batch Outing. Thanks to Alya, Marshal and Vincent for willing to become PJs - we believe that they will do their best! Lastly, six groups of FO, Group A to F, and their facilitators were announced. Everyone was so enthusiastic about their groups! We hope that this yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s FO could give utmost benefits for all freshmen in coping challenges and obstacles in their upcoming years in FMUI! Best of luck!

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT 2017 DOKTER CILIK

Community Development is an annual event held by Community Outreach Department, and this year’s main title is Dokter Cilik. This year’s Community Development was held in SDN Pancoran Mas 1, Kampung Lio, Depok, with participants of 80 children in the fourth and fifth grade. The event itself involves other departments in STUNICA as part of the committee, and fellow partnerships with BEM and CISMA. Our first Community Development was held in the second week of September with the topic NAPZA. The children were taught about the danger of NAPZA and how to prevent from getting involved with it. The first session was interactive lecture, and then followed by poster making. The children were very enthusiastic and the event itself went great! The second Community Development was in the last week of September and the topic was about First Aid. This session was the most fun event because the children were taught about how to handle several common injuries such as bleeding, burn, nosebleed, and choking. The children were divided into several small groups where our friends as facilitators explained about first aid. We also provide them with child’s box first aid so that the children can explore what is inside a typical first aid kit, along with when and how to use it. There were also games where children are encouraged to practice their skill on handling injuries. WOW! SUPER FUN!! Finally, our last Community Development will be held on the first week of December. The topic of this last project will be about sex education. It is where we educate the children about what to expect during their puberty and how to keep their sexual development healthy. Our Community Development this year will be ended in a collaborative event along with BEM and CIMSA by doing a field trip with the children of SDN Pancoran Mas 1. In the aim of providing children with more health education and awareness, we are sure that the knowledge we share will be beneficial and useful for our community. Well, we hope our next year project will be more creative and exciting! YAY! See you next year!

Why Michael Jackson’s skin turned white as he got older?

Michael Jackson, known as “King of Pop”, was born on 29 August 1958. He died on June 25, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. He was a singer, songwriter, was the best-selling music artist at the time of his death. Jackson stopped died on his sleep – due to excessive consumption of drugs propofol and benzodiazepine after suffering a cardiac arrest.

He had remarkable musical career but also many scandals overshadowed his career – well, because he was a super star and we couldn’t do much about it. One scandal that stood out the most was the obvious change on his appearance, especially his skin color that turned from dark to white.

According to his family and himself, he suffered vitiligo, a condition that causes depigmentation of parts of the skin, which result is white spots on the patient’s body. This is noticeable – and more noticeable for dark complexion’s case. One of 250 or so people who have this condition typically first start seeing signs of it beginning between 10 – 30 years old – in mid 1980, his skin started to change color. In addition to this skin disorder, he also reportedly suffered from systemic lupus erythematosus – but it was in remission – that potentially can also cause loss of skin pigmentation.

Conspiracy theorists propose that there was much more to it than this. That Jackson had no such disease and he bleached his skin and consumed medical cocktails to look like a white person. Accompanied with obvious and extensive cosmetic surgeries he had on parts of his face served to enforce the said theory that he purposefully enhanced his appearance more by bleaching his skin.

Dr. Rogers, deputy medical examiner at the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office and the man who conducted Michael Jackson’s autopsy, confirmed that Jackson indeed suffered from vitiligo, most noticeably with patches around his face, chest, abdomen, and arms. So did he also bleach his skin? According to dermatologist Dr. Hanish Babu, Jackson bleached his skin for treatment used for those with vitiligo. Besides giving him a white complexion, this also results in being prone to sun burns, which is why in later years he often kept himself nearly completed covered when outside the sun.
