The ESU offers up-to three grants a year worth $30,000 each for postdoctoral research scientists. The Fellowship supports research in the fields of: Astronomy, Biophysics, Chemistry, Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Mathematics and Physics. The Fellowships are awarded to graduates of exceptional promise in both the pure and applied physical sciences who have shown capacity for producing original research. The ESU has administered the Lindemann Trust Fellowships since March 1972, following a bequest of ÂŁ1,000,000 from Brigadier Lindemann. Candidacy is open to UK and Commonwealth citizens. Holders of established research and lecturing posts with a proven record may apply, but the Fellowship should not be regarded as a means of taking up a routine sabbatical. Research is to be carried out in the USA for a period of one year. Fellowships may not be held concurrently with any other award. Candidates must be resident in the United Kingdom in order to be eligible. Fellows receive the $30,000 in quarterly instalments. For more information and for details of how to apply visit www.esu.org or contact education.events@esu.org
This Trust has been established under the Will of Brigadier Lindemann who directed that his residuary estate should be used to provide income for the provision of Fellowships in the Physical Sciences to be awarded by the ESU, on behalf of the Trust.
