DR. BLAIR BLACKBURN KENT REEVES PRESIDENT
B.A. - Political Science, Texas-Tyler M.S. - Higher Education, Texas A&M-Commerce Ed.D - Education, Baylor University
Greetings from East Texas Baptist University, home of the Tigers! The mission of East Texas Baptist is to boldly stand as a committed Christ-centered institution of higher learning. With this distinct calling to Christian education, we are called to inspire and impact our students through the formation of minds and hearts in the cultural mandate of transforming humanity for God’s glory. Our primary focus through the ETBU educational experience is the development of the whole student – intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically – an unwavering commitment to transformation of mind, spirit, and body. We afford our ETBU students the opportunity to mature and develop in a loving and supportive campus environment, where students are nurtured and empowered to achieve educational and career goals. The ETBU Family seeks to encourage students to develop their calling through an understanding of how to integrate biblical faith, academic learning, and vocation in whatever and wherever God calls. Through the lens of a Christian worldview, students are challenged to study and learn from the foundation that all truth is God’s Truth. As a Tiger student and future ETBU graduate, you will receive an excellent education as we strive to reflect the excellence of Jesus Christ in all we do...and that begins in the classroom with the renewing of the mind and extends throughout college life with the transformation of the heart. Here at ETBU, you will experience a Christ-centered community...a university, passionately committed to serving others for the glory of God. We believe in the calling to live as Christ-like servant leaders, and we challenge our students to follow that model for their lives as students and as future Tiger graduates. We invite you to prayerfully consider ETBU for your college home. Our prayer is that you come to understand that God has a distinct purpose and future for your life. We would be honored to have you as an ETBU Tiger, and I encourage you to trust in the Lord as you seek God’s direction for the path He longs for you to follow. All for God’s glory! J. Blair Blackburn
DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS B.S.E. - John Brown University M.S.E. - Arkansas State University
Now in his 19th year as Director of Athletics at East Texas Baptist University, Kent Reeves has presided over the Tigers’ transformation into a solid member of the NCAA Division III ranks. Reeves, who remains the winningest coach in women’s basketball at ETBU, stepped down as women’s basketball coach in 1997 to assume full-time duties as athletic director. He also was named the university’s first softball coach that year and laid the foundation for a program that has become one of the best in the nation annually. Under Reeves’ guidance as AD the department has grown from just five sports in 1997 to 14 in 2014, with the addition of men’s and women’s tennis and track & field. ETBU athletics programs have consistently competed for championships in the American Southwest Conference, with 12 conference titles and 17 ASC division titles since joining the Division III ranks in 1998-99. ETBU teams have combined to make 56 conference tournament appearances since 1998, and the Tiger softball program claimed the university’s first NCAA national championship in 2010. Facility upgrades have also been a staple of Reeves’ time as athletic director. Since 1997, ETBU has added new playing facilities for softball, football, soccer, and tennis. Various upgrades and improvements have been added to each athletics program on campus over the last 10 years. Reeves arrived at ETBU as women’s basketball coach in 1987. When he decided to step down as basketball coach following the 1996-97 season, Reeves had directed the Tigers to an average of 20 wins per season in his 10 years as coach. He finished with 206 wins and his teams made nine NAIA postseason appearances. As softball coach from 1998-2000, Reeves built the program from scratch and culminated with the program’s first ASC championship in 2000. He assumed ADonly duties after that season but returned to the dugout in a pinch for the 2004 season. That year, the Tigers posted a then program-record 41 wins. He then took another year off before returning for the 2006-07 seasons finishing with 183 wins over six seasons. Reeves is active in the Marshall community, serving in the Marshall Lions Club as well as being a deacon at Central Baptist Church. He and his wife Mary Beth have two daughters: Kendra and Taylor, whom both are married, and two grand daughters.

ALL-ASC SECOND TEAM 8.......................................ALL-ASC FIRST TEAM One of the brightest and youngest offensive minds in the country, Scotty Walden now becomes the fourth head coach at East Texas Baptist University since the program was restarted in 2000. After three years as the offensive coordinator, he was promoted to head coach when Joshua Eargle left for a NCAA Division I position. At the age of 26, Walden is the youngest head coach in all of NCAA football. Walden takes over a program that is on the rise after winning the 2015 American Southwest Conference championship. It was the first ASC championship for ETBU since 2003 when they also tied three ways for the championship. His offense produced four players that were named All-ASC first-team in Josh Warbington (QB), Kendall Roberson (RB), Tyler Bates (WR), and Tyler Scott (OL). Both Roberson and Bates went on to earn D3football.com All-Region awards. He added two more All-Americans to his resume when Warbington and Roberson were named to the USA Football Network All-American team. In his first three years as the offensive coordinator Walden’s offense has re-written ETBU’s record book for individual, single game, and season records while being nationally known for passing and scoring. In his time, 26 records have been broken from single game, single season, to single player game and individual player records. He has produced four 1,000 yard receivers (Jamaine Sherman, Stephen Alfred, Tyler Bates-twice), two 1,000 yard rusher (Kendall Roberson, Toi Glover), and one Gagliardi Trophy semi-finalist (Josh Warbington). His offense has consistently been one of the top offenses in NCAA Division III in and in 2014 finished ranked first in total passing offense (368.1 pg), second in total offense (566.1 pg) and 11th in scoring offense (42.3 ppg). Walden came to Eargle’s staff after being the offensive coordinator at Sul Ross State in 2012. It was Walden’s first year as a coach and offensive coordinator and

Sul Ross State broke 16 overall offensive school records with two of them being most offensive yards in a game (800) and points in a game (75). A NCAA Division III product, Walden was the starting quarterback at Dordt College (2008) and Sul Ross State University (2001). In his senior season (2011) he was the team captain and was given the Leadership award. He was awarded All-ASC academic awards twice and started his freshman season at Dordt College. During his time at Hardin-Simmons (2009-10) he played both as a quarterback and defensive back and was coached by current Rutgers University defensive coordinator Jay Niemann. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sul Ross State in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in history. MARSHALL, Texas – Kendall Roberson didn’t break the NCAA Division III rushing record but he sure did run for a lot of yards. Roberson became only the eight NCAA Division III and 17th NCAA player to rush for over 400 yards in a game on Saturday, October 24, against Belhaven University. “That’s phenomenal what happened today but that needed to happen in slop, in rain, in the monsoon on a grass field and that’s what needed to happen,” says head coach Joshua Eargle. “Our offensive line did great today and Kendall Roberson was extremely patience today and when a hole opened up he burst and had some big runs for us.” Roberson did all of the rushing work in three quarters not playing in the fourth quarter and still recorded five touchdowns and 420 yards. The 420 yards is better than NCAA Division I running back Melvin Gordon who set the NCAA Division I rushing record vs. Nebraska only to see it broken the following week by Oklahoma’s Samaje Perine with 427 yards vs. Kansas. NCAA Division III’s Cartel Brooks from Heidelburg owns the overall record with 465 yards vs. Oberlin in 2013. Of his five touchdown runs, two were over 60 yards with a 69-yard run (number 2) and an 80yard run (number 3). A combined 201 yards of his 420 yards came on touchdown runs as the other three touchdown runs were three yards (number 1), six yards (number 4) and 43-yards (number 5). “The offensive linemen and the receivers do a great job of helping me get past the line of scrimmage,” says Roberson. “I’m tired on some of the runs at the and these guys are selling out for me and that helps me keep going as our offensive line and offense keep getting better each week.” Roberson’s production improved by the quarter. In the first he rushed for 101 yards on 12 carries and one touchdown. In the second quarter it was 154 yards and another touchdown. The third quarter was his finest with 165 yards on nine carries and three touchdown. His name will now be with some of the finest backs in all of NCAA as he becomes 2015’s first 400-yard rusher. Last year, there were two only in NCAA Division I in Wisconsin’s Gordon and Oklahoma’s Perine. He now has the sixth best game in NCAA Division III and eighth overall in NCAA.

Joshua Eargle was the third head football coach for ETBU since the program was started back up in 2000. In January 2013 he was selected to rebuild the program and in three years he did that finishing with a championship in 2015. The past three years he brought ETBU football back into the front of the American Southwest Conference with a high potent offense. He capped his three year career at ETBU in 2015 with a three-way tie for the championship earning the program second championship. ETBU went 7-3 in 2015 and reached a national ranking of 23 heading into to the final week of the season. During 2015, ETBU had an offense that produced three of the top play makers in the nation in Kendall Roberson, Tyler Bates, and Josh Warbington. All three either broke, tied, or are in the top five of every offensive category for single game, single season, and career records. In three years he had five All-Americans and over 20 All-ASC selections. He also had four all-region players through D3football.com. Eargle poured into his players with the title of Fight, Faith, Finish turning young players into men. The players that stayed through the program were changed by the end. He also implemented the ring program where if you come and play for four years you leave with an ETBU football ring to remember your time as a Tiger.
