MARSHALL, Texas—Coming home after a weekend on the road, the East Texas Baptist University women’s soccer team took the field against Texas Dallas, who came into the game without a conference loss. ETBU gave it their best shot, but fell just short 2-1.

Early on UTD played aggressively and had many chances to score, but Christina Salas kept the game scoreless until the 17th minute when UTD’s Alissa Burch beat Salas on the left side of the net after a pass from Carli Beckett set her up to score. Megan Mugavero also assisted on the goal. A mere six minutes later Beckett took a throw in deep into the ETBU zone and from about 50 feet out put up a high arcing shot that went past Salas’ outstretched arm to go into the back of the net, giving UTD a 2-0 lead. Just over two minutes later, ETBU answered with a goal from Kendall Harris. From the left of the goal, Harris shot from just outside the top of the goalie box after a long pass from Kia Jelley to beat the goalie on the far side, making it a 2-1 game. It was Harris’ second goal of the season. The game would go to half with that same score. In the second half the two teams played incredibly even. They matched each other shot for shot with eight each in the second half. But both Salas and UTD’s Macaire Ament stood tall in the second half, neither allowing a goal. Both teams had eight shots on goal for the game, but Ament’s seven saves to Salas’ six made the difference.
ETBU 1, Ozarks 0
MARSHALL, Texas—After a rough opening to conference play, the East Texas Baptist University women’s soccer team pulled through to get their first conference win Saturday against the University of the Ozarks 1-0. Megan Gibson scored her first collegiate goal to propel ETBU to a much needed victory. ETBU dominated the game from start to finish. They outshot Ozarks 23-7 and played most of the game on Ozarks’ side of the field. Gibson and Karley Pecosky tied for the team lead in shots on goal with three each, and took 11 of the team’s 23 shots. The first half saw plenty of chances for ETBU that just barely missed. Kaydi Joa Smith had a great shot in the first half that hit the top of the post, went straight down and was saved. It was one of 13 shots by ETBU in the first half, five of which were put on net and saved. In the second half, ETBU finally broke through when Gibson made the play of the game with a steal on Ozarks’ side of the field and took it herself the rest of the way and put the ball past the outstretched arms of the goalie to give ETBU the 1-0 advantage in the 53rd minute. ETBU would take 10 total shots in the half but the lone goal was all they needed as Salas stopped both shots on goal that Ozarks had for the contest.
Sho ETBU will take the field next this coming Friday against Louisiana College at
