ASC Player of the Week

Christian Garcia RICHARDSON, Texas – After just one week of play, the East Texas Baptist University men’s soccer team has picked up an award with an American Southwest Conference player of the week. Christian Garcia was named cooffensive player of the week for his play in two matches. “Christian has always been a very good player for our program and last year we told him that he would have to carry a bigger load this year for us,” says head coach Paul Grant. “For him to score three goals and get us back into the match with Centenary was big. He is just that kind of player. If you give him the ball something is going to happen. It was a well-deserved award for him this past weekend.” Garica netted all three goals for ETBU in a 5-3 loss to Centenary scoring them all in the second half in a 15 minute period. Down 3-0, he cut the lead to two with his first goal in the 49th minute. Just eight minutes later, he took a break away pass and put it into the top right corner of the net. The tying goal came in the 64th minute when he slipped a shot just past the goalie’s hands in the box. The hat trick is the second of his career as he collected four goals vs. Ozarks in 2012.
