Cats June 2017 Musical Theatre

Here at Stockton Riverside College, we’ve always had a hugely successful Performing and Creative Arts department and last year, we launched a new Academy of Performing and Technical Arts (APTA). In the UK, the creative industries are worth more than £130 billion to the UK economy and covers 9.6% of UK jobs. Closer to home, the arts are a pretty big deal too. In the Tees Valley alone, it’s predicted that there will be 14,000 creative jobs by 2024 and whilst things were put on hold due to COVID-19, make no mistake, this area will bounce back with a vengeance. Recently, the Government has pledged £1.5 billion to protect the UK creative sector – we

really are a world-class super power when it comes to the arts. APTA was launched to ensure that talented young people like you are well equipped to be part of this vibrant sector whether it’s in fashion, graphic design, TV and film or games design; an APTA course will provide you with the best possible start to your creative career and enable you to go out and be at the cutting edge of this sector. I am delighted and privileged to be part of such an exciting initiative that I know will grow and thrive over the coming years. Best wishes, Lesley Graham

Makeup for the Stage and Screen students turned Stockton Riverside College into a catwalk last summer. Focusing on a different theme every year, students turned to a topic that is at the forefront of Stockton Riverside College’s mind; green issues. Highlighting issues such as pollution, the fur trade and forest fires; students brought their models to life using body paint and props to hammer their message home. When asked about the theme of the event, Makeup for Production Arts teacher, Nina, said: “We were inspired by the work we did last year with the Festival of Thrift around sustainability. It’s a really important issue that’s been brought to light in the last few years and we really wanted to focus on that.” 16
