SPORT AT BEDE We are delighted to offer the Institute for Sport and Education (ISE) here at Bede Sixth Form College. Sport and physical activity play a vital role in many aspects of health and wellbeing and are crucial to the learner experience. It is widely recognised that sport and physical activity offer an array of wide-reaching benefits for students, from boosting concentration to stress relief. The whole ethos of the Institute is about using sport as a vehicle for positive progression. The ISE provides opportunities unique to the Tees Valley for up and coming young sportspeople, and those passionate about sport and physical activity.
“Healthy lifestyles, mental wellbeing and positive progression are the cornerstones of the Institute. The aim is to enable young athletes to increase their academic attainment and progression, while developing their sporting performance. Running alongside their full-time study programme, the Institute gives students access to a wide range of sports academies, specialist coaching, strength and conditioning training, injury prevention management, healthy living and nutritional advice. The reality is, sport can be a real vehicle for achievement, giving young people skills that can feed into so many other aspects of their life.” Ben Robinson, College Principal

It is worth noting that you can choose from the full range of subjects we offer linked to your career goals and still be part of the academy, as we will ensure that you are timetabled to be free during each slot. There are regular opportunities to train and use the gym facilities outside of these slots. In addition, you will have specific times where you can visit our sports therapist for treatment, advice and guidance. Outside of the timetable there will be opportunities to develop your coaching, leadership and knowledge with things such as university visits, additional courses, and links with employers.

Studied Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science Now: Studying exercise science and playing football for Maryville University, USA
The opportunity to develop our sport through things like the tass sessions on nutrition and diet were really valuable. The timetable structure allows our training and games to fit in without affecting our classes, and the strength and conditioning sessions made me feel much fitter and stronger. Callum - Mens’ Football Studied: Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science Now: Studying sports science and playing football in the USA
Having access to the tass sessions especially helped my development in Rugby. The strength & conditioning sessions we attended through Durham University were enjoyable and helped me improve my physical potential. It also developed my insight into the world of sport and exercise as I find the discipline vastly intriguing. Max - Rugby (Stockton Rugby Club)
