MEET OUR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT TEAM
In July, with five years’ Etc. service under her belt, Erika Marshall changed her role and was appointed as the new Group Director for Marketing and Business Engagement.
With 20 years of experience working in and around Teesside, Erika is already a familiar face among employers in the Tees Valley and wider North-east.
“I am really excited to be getting back out and about on the business scene, working with employers to understand the challenges they face with regards to training and skills and how we can translate these into impactful solutions through a partnership approach. I have already had some incredible meetings with colleagues across the region and look forward to getting more in the diary as the academic year progresses.
“The Tees Valley is on the cusp of some really exciting times – when we look at what is happening on Teesworks, the investments in green energy and retrofit, and the developments we are seeing in other sectors such as housing and health – there is something for everyone here. I’ve lived and worked in Teesside all of my life, we are great people, we do great things – and I am looking forward to doing more of those together, for the good of the communities and businesses we serve.”

BECOME A COACHING PROFESSIONAL!
Work with individuals and teams to enhance their professional performance. A coach can
• Use enhanced listening and questioning skills to increase individuals' and teams' self-awareness to enable them to evaluate their own and others' strengths and development areas, allowing the individual(s) receiving coaching ("the coachee") to create and deliver bespoke actions leading to positive change.
• Use their emotional and social intelligence in an applied way to support the development of selfawareness, adaptability, resilience, wellbeing, motivation and confidence in the coachee.
• Work with groups and teams, to increase collective awareness and increase accountability associated with making positive change.
• Offer non-judgmental (neither denying nor affirming a coachee's perspectives and opinions) and encourage individuals to find their own solutions and appropriate ways forward.
• Work with coachees in one-to-one relationships, in person and via video or audio conferencing, to aid in their self-reflection, and may observe coachees, for example by attending a relevant meeting, to provide non-judgmental feedback.

A RENEWED PARTNERSHIP WITH THIRTEEN HOUSING GROUP
We are pleased to have partnered with Thirteen Group, the North-east’s biggest social housing provider, to deliver a range of apprenticeships to 18 new employees.
The openings feature a mix of trade operative and officebased roles including business administration, electrical, gas, joinery, plastering and plumbing.
Training will be delivered through multiple Etc. colleges and training providers, including Stockton Riverside College, Redcar and Cleveland College, and Innersummit Professional Services.
Stephanie Douglas, emerging talent coordinator at Thirteen, said: “As a large employer in the North-east, we recognise the important role we play in developing and retaining talent in our region, which is why we are proud to support apprenticeships.
“Feedback from our current apprentices is really positive and it demonstrates our track record in delivering insightful and engaging training programmes, which have helped many of our colleagues to progress in their career at Thirteen.”
Erika Marshall, Group Marketing and Business Engagement Director at the Etc., said: “It is fantastic to work with Thirteen to bring these apprenticeship opportunities to the market for the young people of Teesside. They offer a fantastic first step for those looking to start their career or take a new direction in a range of different fields with an organisation grounded on principles of staff investment and development.”
SUPPORTING INDUSTRY TO BRIDGE SKILLS GAPS
In August, Redcar and Cleveland College had the pleasure of hosting the NERTG Roofing Event.
The college has been working hard on the launch of a new roofing apprenticeship, welcoming Sam Moore, of Samuel Moore Roofing Ltd, to its fold to deliver training. Materials for the apprenticeship have been kindly supplied by SIG Roofing to support training needs for the next generation of roofers.
The introduction of the apprenticeship will bridge a skills gap in Teesside as providers for roofing apprenticeships are in short supply, with the nearest provider being based in County Durham.
The TVCA has identified roofing to be a priority sector, meaning that financial support is available to businesses to take on an apprentice.
Continued overleaf...
Data shows 40% of the current construction workforce being age 45 or over, with around 15% due to retire in the next five years. This is in addition to a demand for workers, which is projected as an average 1,000 net jobs every year until 2027 across the Tees Valley. *
The NERTG meeting provided a great opportunity for attendees to discuss developments in roofing, take a tour of the roofing workshop, and learn about funding streams from the TVCA and CITB.

NEPIC WELCOMES FIRST APPRENTICE!
As the largest process cluster in the UK representing over 320 companies, the North-east of England Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) is pleased to have taken on its first apprentice, Leighton.
Leighton embarks on his qualification with the Etc. with delivery at Stockton Riverside College. The role has been funded through apprenticeship levy gifted by px Group, cementing all three organisations’ commitment to providing opportunities for young people in the area.
Katie Woods-Ruddick, Chief People Officer at px Group said:
“We are delighted to be able to work with NEPIC to transfer levy funds which has helped them employ their first ever apprentice. At px we fully understand the importance and value of employing apprentices and we are glad we have been able to support NEPIC.”
Etc.’s Group Marketing and Business Engagement Director, Erika Marshall added:
“This is a great example of how a large employer can transfer unused levy funding to another organisation to help pay training costs and, in this case, keeping the funding in the North-east and doing something really positive with it. The gifting of unspent levy funding is something that is being actively encouraged in the Tees Valley as a way of supporting SMEs and enabling organisations to maximise levy use.
“At the Etc. we are proud to be working with NEPIC, and px Group, on the delivery of training for NEPIC’s first apprentice, and we look forward to supporting Leighton as he takes what we know will be an exciting first step in his career.”
Discussing the beginning of his new career, Leighton said:
“I am excited to be starting my apprenticeship at NEPIC and I am eager to work closely with members and support them throughout their journey. This opportunity provides me with an avenue to grow my skills and learn from inspiring individuals within such a prominent industry in the area.”
