We are really excited to announce that we have teamed up with The Girls’ Network, leading the way for a selection of our female students to work with some of the leading Tees Valley businesswomen. The Girls’ Network is an organisation that aims to inspire young women by connecting them with a female mentor to provide support and offer advice. In September, all full-time female students were invited to attend an information session where they could find out more about the programme. Afterwards, those
students were given the opportunity to complete an application form and be part of the programme. Successful students were then recently matched with their mentor. The mentors come from a wide range of different backgrounds and will work with their mentee over the next year, meeting on a monthly basis. Students are now busy digitally getting to know their mentors and we can’t wait to keep up to date with how they get on during the programme.
Remembrance Day 2020 This year’s annual Service of Remembrance was delivered digitally for the very first time with the help of our public service students. The service remembers pupils and staff from the Sir William Turner School, killed in action during the First and Second World Wars; 350 of the school’s “Old Boys” fought in the First World War, 48 dying in active service, and 650 served during the Second World War and 55 lost their lives. Due to the current restrictions in place, the service was prerecorded for the school’s alumni and their families to watch from
the safety of their own homes. Giving readings for the filmed ceremony were public services students Adam, Jack and Jim. Jim, 18, said: “A lot has changed this year, this would usually be a live event but instead our readings have been prerecorded.” Adam, 17, said: “It is so important to remember the 103 Old Boys who were part of the Redcar community.” Jack, 18, added: “This is such a big event, as public service students we were glad to still be able to play our part.”
face to face customer service and marketing. We also visit lots of different local organisations such as hotels, events and festivals as well as different venues that are part of the travel and tourism industry. What is your top tip for students thinking about college?
MEET CHARLOTTE We have been catching up with Charlotte, our brand new travel and tourism tutor. With a wide range of experience in the travel and tourism industry, Charlotte is excited to get started and showcase the many opportunities available to students at the end of the course. Why should you choose to study a travel and tourism course? Now more than ever the travel and tourism industry needs you. The industry that brings happiness to others is changing and it needs the very best students to be trained and help drive the industry back to success. During the course you will explore the industry, look at the different careers available, operations,
My top tip when thinking about college is to research both the college you are interested in and the course that you are applying for and make sure they are right for you. If you are looking for a caring and supportive college which will push you to reach your goals then we are the college for you. What is your favourite thing about the travel and tourism courses? My favourite thing about the travel and tourism courses is that they allow you to learn about so many different career roles within the industry such as hotel managers, event promoters, holiday reps, cabin crew, baggage handlers, travel agents and so many more! You will not only learn about these careers but also develop the skills required to secure jobs such as these on completion of the course. So if the travel and tourism courses at Redcar and Cleveland College sounds interesting to you then I would love to see you on the course next year! You can find out more information about the courses on our website – www.cleveland.ac.uk
