SIMON FOUND A JOB HE IS PASSIONATE ABOUT It would have been all too easy for Simon to give up on his ambitions of becoming a nurse. At 50, the Redcar granddad-offour said: “I kept telling myself I was too old to start my training.” Fortunately, he didn’t let the doubts win and finally signed up to an Access to Higher Education course at Redcar and Cleveland College. Now studying the Level 4 Cert HE in
Social Care at the College, Simon was given the opportunity to carry out a work placement at The James Cook University Hospital. What he didn’t expect was to be offered a job. He’s now a healthcare assistant in critical care, playing his own small part at the frontline of the battle against the pandemic.
