LEARNING SUPPORT
TRANSITION INTO COLLEGE LIFE WHAT WE DO At Redcar & Cleveland College, we are dedicated to ensuring that learners receive the appropriate learning support for their individual needs. Please let us know about your needs as soon as you can; we can then arrange a support interview and ensure that appropriate provision is in place. We will discuss your individual needs, which will help us to identify an appropriate support package for you. Every day is different and each situation can be a challenge. Our ultimate goal is to ensure our students are respected, cared for as individuals and are encouraged to reach their full potential. Learning support can help you achieve this.
We can arrange taster sessions so learners can experience a course session of your choice and decide if it is right for you. We can also provide support during your college interview. Transition sessions can be arranged to meet the course tutors, learning support staff and allow you to familiarise yourself with the building.
SPECIALIST EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES We have a range of specialist equipment available for learners including specialist software such as Dragon Naturally Speaking, Read and Write Gold. Students can also be provided with dictaphones, magnifiers and specialist keyboards and laptops. Redcar and Cleveland College provides learners with specialist facilities such as our Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) Room where learners can plan their next steps into adulthood with our specialist PfA coach. A learner progress room is also available where learners can complete dyslexia screening tests and gain study skills.

PREPARING FOR ADULTHOOD ROOM Firstly, our PfA Coach works with young people on a 1:1 basis to complete a vocational profile which highlights any skills and knowledge gaps. Our coach then works with learners to create an individualised action plan, ensuring learners have choice and control over all aspects of their lives and support. Over the academic year, learners continue to work and review their goals ensuring that they are fully equipped and prepared for their journey into adulthood.
Our Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) Room provides learners with Special Educational Needs and/ or Disabilities (SEND), support to ensure they have equal life chances as they move into adulthood. The room is sectioned into small booths, each focused on one of the 4 key pathways: independent living, employment, good health, and community inclusion. Each booth contains key information from specialist agencies to ensure learners have all they need to develop their skills and prepare for their next steps.
