An all-new NETA

Do you fancy spending your second year studying in our brand new £14m purpose-built centre in Thornaby?

After many months in the pipeline we are excited to be bringing the brand-new NETA Training site to Thornaby! NETA has a long history of meeting the skills needs of employers in our region and beyond, this development will now bring together NETA’s industrial heritage with fantastic new facilities.

Made possible with £4.5m from the Government’s Town Deal fund, and delivered in partnership with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and with the support of the Thornaby Town Deal Board, the new building will be situated on the Stockton Riverside College site, with work expected to start late in the summer.

Maintaining its strong identity and brand, NETA Training will have its own access point off Princeton Drive and continue to deliver its full range of training services, including commercial courses, testing and certification, apprenticeship training and fulltime engineering programmes for schoolleavers. The 5,000 square metre facility will comprise of bespoke industry workshops for the delivery of engineering skills, including welding, electrical, mechanical, pipefitting and rigging and lifting.

NETA director Sean Johnston said: “These are exciting times for NETA, our staff, learners, delegates and all the employers that we work with. Engineering and construction skills have a massive part to play in Teesside’s industrial future. We want to help create a workforce on our doorstep with the knowledge, talent and abilities to ensure our communities benefit from that.”

BRAND NEW CENTRE!

APPRENTICESHIPS

If students feel ready to start work then an apprenticeship could be the right move for them. They will learn on the job, gain a qualification and earn a wage. Sound good? We work with employers from a wide variety of industries who offer apprenticeship vacancies, so we can help students find the right opportunity. Apprenticeships last between one and four years.

What will they do?

We can chat about the available vacancies, and advise on which one would suit students best. We work with local employers who are looking for an apprentice and can help guide students through the application process. If successful, students will start work and learn the skills of the job. On some apprenticeships, they will spend one day a week at the NETA site.

Is it right for them?

If students are looking to start work straight away and prefer to learn in a working environment, then an apprenticeship could be the route for them. This is their opportunity to impress, so they will need to work hard, show dedication, determination and enthusiasm.

If you are interested call us on 01642 616 936.

They will gain work experience in an industry setting, whilst learning a qualification which can be used for UCAS points, should they wish to consider university in the future. Apprenticeships help provide students with the relevant work experience they need to find future jobs in their chosen area.

What do they need?

Entry requirements vary depending on the apprenticeship but all apprenticeships require that:

• Students are 16 or over

• Students live in England and are not taking part in full-time education

• Students need a company sponsor before starting an apprenticeship. Speak to our team about securing a sponsor.

Everything they need to know

The way apprenticeships work has changed and they now include an end point assessment. This assessment may include a professional discussion with an external assessor, an apprenticeship showcase (a bit like a portfolio), an observation in the student’s workplace or a practical demonstration. Their assessor will let students know which one applies to them.

T LEVELS

T Levels are a two-year course, being introduced by the government, primarily aimed at 16 to 19-year-old learners. The equivalent to three A Levels, they are a level 3 technical option that combines classroombased learning with a strong element of on-the-job training through a 45day industry placement.

T Levels have been developed in select subject areas, alongside employers and businesses to ensure they meet industry needs. The courses are being rolled out gradually to campus sites and providers.

The qualification is made up of two main parts, a technical qualification and an industry placement.

Technical qualification:

• Core content (knowledge and skills relevant to all occupations covered by the T Level).

• An occupational specialism (the knowledge and practical skills to enter employment in a particular occupation).

Industry placement:

• Every T Level will include an industry placement with an employer, which will last a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days) but can be longer.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A T LEVEL AND A LEVEL 3 VOCATIONAL COURSE

T Levels are the technical equivalent to three A Levels. They will cover core theory, concepts and specialist skills and knowledge for a specific career or occupation. The main difference between the T Level and a Level 3 course is the compulsory industry placement. This will last a minimum of 315 hours and makes up 20% of the course. Academically demanding, T Levels incorporate English, maths and digital content.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A T LEVEL AND AN APPRENTICESHIP

Apprenticeships are built for those who know what occupation they want to pursue and are ready to enter the world of work. They are typically made up of a combination of 80% on-the-job training and 20% in the classroom. T Levels have been developed in collaboration with employers and providers so that the content “meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work”. T Levels are based on the same industrial standards as apprenticeships, created specifically by employers and approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.

To find out more about the T Levels being delivered at NETA Training Group please email: apply@neta.co.uk or call: 01642 616 936 .
