Since starting the King’s Trust
Achieve course Evan has come on leaps and bounds!
For various reasons Evan had been out of education since year 8, but the tutors would never have known that from the positive, have-a-go attitude they displayed from the get-go! Every piece of work that Evan has been given, they have put every ounce of effort into it.
Evan has completed a range of work experience placements during the time on the King’s Trust course, one being at the Salvation Army, where they received amazing feedback from the mentor there. As part of the celebrations for the Coronation of King Charles III Evan was asked to lead part of a prayer at Durham Cathedral, which they did without hesitation. Evan also undertook the enterprise unit where they came up with the idea of selling hot drinks on an evening to parents taking their children to football practice. Again, with no hesitation Evan stood out in the freezing cold and raised money which they decided to donate to Women’s Aid.
Evan has hugely benefitted from college life, which has given them structure and enabled them to meet new people. Evan has gained new friends within college, even though, at the start of the year, they were quite reserved and hadn’t previously had the best educational experience. Evan is always willing to help and offer support to other peers.
In terms of Evan’s progression after the King’s Trust, they are planning to start the Public Service course at Middlesbrough College.
Evan, massive well done on your journey during the King’s Trust Achieve course!

Aspiration: To become a social worker

The course leader Sam was a huge support to me, she really helped me enjoy learning again. If it wasn’t for the Achieve course I don’t think I would be studying Health and Social Care now and pursuing my dream of becoming a social worker.
The best part of the course is that the tutor believed in me."
- Nicole
What I have enjoyed about the Achieve Programme is healthy living, budgeting and customer service. Customer service was my favourite part as I got to serve customers on the enterprise stall.
- Ross
I enjoyed the healthy living unit as we got to cook a healthy meal and sit down and eat it as a group together.
- Lauren
“The enterprise project helped me improve my confidence by talking to customers. I have also improved my communication skills by working with other members of the group and serving customers on the stall.”
- Shaylee
Learners from The King’s Trust Achieve Programme utilise the skills and qualifications gained to move onto positive destinations suited to their individual aspirations and pathways.
83% of learners on The King’s Trust Programme move onto a positive destination such as:
• Employment
• A vocational further education course
• A structured voluntary opportunity
• Apprenticeship
• Higher Education
An example of this is Rebecca who successfully completed the L1 King’s Trust Certificate in Personal Development and Employability in 2016. She then successfully worked through BTEC qualifications in Travel and Tourism and is now embarking on her second year degree in Aviation and Tourism.
All learners on The King’s Trust Achieve Programme undertake work related experience with local employers. Their placement fulfils a unit qualification as well as providing young people with vital workplace skills and experience to enhance their CV and aid positive progression. Learners also gain a reference from successfully completing their placements.
