Meet the team Meet Claire
As a student I attended the old Bede College and really enjoyed the small nurturing environment it offered. I then attended Kirby College and completed a BTec in Health and Social Care, I then moved on to study Applied Social Science at The University of Humberside.

Whilst studying I worked part time as a care assistant, gaining experience working with the elderly, adults with mental health issues and people with learning difficulties. After graduating in 1997, I was unsure what career to pursue I just knew I wanted to help others change and improve their lives in some way. I applied for a job as a Learning Support Assistant at Stockton & Billingham College and after a successful few years I decided to take the plunge and study for my PGCE to become a teacher. After completing my PGCE, I worked in Holme House Prison teaching prisoners basic skills and I also worked at Middlesbrough Football Club engaging young people back into education using the power of football. After being made redundant in 2010 I saw a post working for the College delivering Prince’s Trust programmes. I feel very fortunate that I have a role I really enjoy. I love working with young people and helping them overcome barriers and realise their full potential.
Meet Sam
After years of working as a Senior Sales Assistant with Next I knew I needed a change. With two young children, the long hours and 4am wake up calls were taking their toll. I’ve always had a passion for helping people and this led me to the decision to become a Teaching Assistant. However, after months of failed interviews I began to give up hope, it wasn’t until I saw the role with The Prince’s Trust as an Achieve Programme Coordinator that my life really changed. With more than 13 years experience now delivering the Achieve Programme, I have loved working with young people and helping them realise their true potential. I am living proof that hard work and determination can get you to where you want to be.

Amy said: “I was really stuck, I knew that I wasn’t reaching my true potential in a classroom but I still wanted to succeed. It wasn’t until I came across the Prince’s Trust Achieve Programme that I found something to suit me.” With a range of modules from employability skills, mock interviews, work placements and charity work, Amy’s confidence grew and she was able to explore a host of different career options. Amy added: “The course was nothing at all like school and team leader Claire was a huge part of that. PRINCE’S TRUST STUDENTS WORK TOGETHER TO SUPPORT THE FAMILIES OF SICK AND PREMATURE BABIES The Prince’s Trust Achieve Programme, which is delivered by the Education Training Collective, is a year long study programme for those aged 16 to 19 and aims to teach them skills such as teamwork and money management. As part of their qualification, the group must take part in an enterprise project which involves running a business with the proceeds going to a local charity. After taking part in a "Dragon’s Den" - style presentation, the group were awarded a £30 loan from the College in order to run their enterprise project. With the loan, the group held an Easter raffle and cake stall and sold blind cards to raise money for Neoangels. Neoangels is a charity designed to support families of sick and premature babies on the Neonatal Unit at the University Hospital of North Tees and James Cook Hospital. It offers services such as financial support, help with food, travel and parking costs as well as emotional support. Raising a total of £273.50, the group was successful in being able to repay their £30 loan and also donate the rest of the funds to their chosen charity. Samantha Peacock, Achieve Programme Team Leader, said: “I am so proud of the team, they worked so hard to raise as much money as they could for this amazing charity. They displayed amazing teamwork and their work on the stalls really boosted their confidence.” The group raised enough money to make up seven care packages for families on the ward which would be shared between the University Hospital of North Tees and James Cook University Hospital. Susan Bridel, Chief Executive Officer at Neoangels, said: “It was fantastic to have the opportunity to come along and meet these entrepreneurial youngsters to find out how they used their business skills to make £30's go such a long way on behalf of our charity. An amazing job done by the whole team. The Princes Trust is a great organisation and the Achieve Pro-gramme clearly encourages youngsters to gain confidence and increase both work and life skills. It was great to hear how everyone could identify and share the benefits they had gained out of the programme as they completed this enterprise project. So its a big thank you to the group, the Princes Trust and Programme Leaders who together made this donation possible".
UNDERTAKING AN ENTERPRISE PROJECT AND CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS As a student you will examine what enterprise is. As part of a team you will then plan, deliver and review an enterprise project. By taking part in these units you will gain skills you never realised you had. You will also gain a vast amount of experience that will be invaluable when progressing forward for interviews and future job opportunities.
UNDERTAKING AN ENTERPRISE PROJECT AND CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS...CONTINUED The Prince’s Trust Achieve programme, which is delivered by the Education Training Collective, tasks its students, as part of an enterprise module, to run a small business, improve their teamwork, money management and customer service skills. The proceeds of the business would then be donated to a local charity chosen by the students. The Prince’s Trust Achieve Team Leader Claire said: “The students chose to run their enterprise project at Christmas time and donate the profits to the Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal. They carried out lots of research but eventually decided they wanted to buy gifts for local children and teenagers who might be struggling at Christmas.” Working as a team, the students decided to run a festive raffle and stall, they also made a giant chocolate Santa sleigh and a chocolate hamper to raffle.
Raising £128.08 in total, they also sold football blindcards, cakes and Christmas tea lights around Stockton Riverside College to boost their efforts. Achieve student Jodie said: “I loved everything about the enterprise module, not only did we get to help others, but running the stalls and things also really helped to boost my confidence. We planned a "Dragon’s Den" - style pitch to raise money for our supplies and we then budgeted to make up the hampers and the chocolate sleigh, etc.” Major Michael Barker, Commanding Officer, Stockton Salvation Army said: "We would like to thank the young people from the Prince's Trust Achieve Programme for their help over the Christmas period. The demand for both gifts and food was very high and with the support of organisations and individuals were were able to supply in excess of 500 toy parcels and 250 food vouchers. The support we receive from the community of Stockton is greatly appreciated. Thank you once again."
