LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATE IN INTRODUCTION TO BUILDING SERVICES AND ENGINEERING

Course length: 1 year

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

This course will provide you with introductory skills in plumbing, electrical installation and engineering. You will learn about health and safety, electrical circuit installations, hot, cold and drainage plumbing systems. You will also cover basic engineering skills and an overview of renewable technologies, which will include wind turbines, solar thermal and also solar photovoltaic systems.

WHAT GRADES DO I NEED?

4 GCSEs grade 3/D including English and maths or an entry level qualification in a related course.

WHAT’S NEXT?

After you have completed this course you could progress on to one of our level 2 courses in electrical installation, engineering or plumbing.

LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA IN ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

Course length: 1 year

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will study a combination of practical skills and theory-based knowledge and undertake a wide range of standard electrical installation work. As well as learning the theory behind electricity and reasons for selecting the right equipment, you will also learn about electrical installation technology, wiring systems and enclosures. You will also gain an overview of the installation and commissioning of wind turbines and solar photovoltaic systems.

WHAT GRADES DO I NEED?

4 GCSEs grade 4/C or above in English, maths and science or a level 1 qualification in a related course.

WHAT’S NEXT?

On completion of this course you can progress on to our Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation or continue your learning by securing an apprenticeship.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Building on skills developed at level 2, you will learn more complex knowledge and skills including electrical science, inspection and testing, fault finding and design.

WHAT GRADES DO I NEED?

4 GCSEs grade 4/C or above including English and maths and a level 2 qualification in a related course.

WHAT’S NEXT?

This course will allow you to progress on to an NVQ and AM2 course to become a fully qualified electrician. You can also progress into higher education to complete a HNC qualification or enter employment.
