El Apostata

Messi

In Federico Veiroj’s jocular and pointed EL APOSTATA, a young man navigates the bureaucracy of the Catholic church when he tries to renounce his faith.

What is it that makes Messi the best player in the world? The answer cannot be summed up by merely listing the value of his achievements, instead, it is necessary to delve into what it is that has made Messi such a unique footballer. This endearing documentary/biopic hybrid captures the spirit of the unlikeliest superstar playing in any professional sport today. Iglesia's brilliant cinematic lens captures Messi's awe-inspiring prowess of soccer. A truly must-watch film for any supporter of the beautiful game.

/ Dir. Federico Veiroj (Uruguay / Spain / France, 80 min, 2015, Spanish w/ English subtitles, Dramedy)

The gang has a seemingly cut-and-dry mission: to clear out the safe deposit boxes possible and then escape through a tunnel that was dug out in one of the bank’s offices. But this is a day when nothing goes as planned as their escape route becomes flooded and the band of thieves discover a secret far more important than any money or jewels hidden in the bank vaults. Starring Luis Tosar (ma ma), Raúl Arévalo (LA ISLA MINIMA) and Rodrigo de la Serna (THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES).
