SESSION 4: Apps world: the creation and funding of a dynamic ecosystem which includes businesses, venture capitals, incubators and accelerators This panel will focus on the fast growth of the apps market. As the EU officials have pointed out, the dynamics of this market are indisputable, since the consumers spent more than 6 billion euros on apps in 2013. The total size of this market, including consumption expenditure, advertising and creative costs reached 17 billion euros. The evaluations for the future are extremely positive, as 46% of the apps market consumers have no problem paying for the right to use an application. But most importantly, more and more start-ups appear in this market sector, seeking funding to grow and secure their position in the market. As the Greek start-ups continue to grow at a fast pace, the search for investment capitals becomes more and more intense. Characteristically, every year 2.2 to 2.3 billion dollars are invested in technological companies, 80% of which come from foreign funds. This new entrepreneurship ecosystem includes businesses, investment capitals, incubators and accelerators. More and more apps developers are putting their talent and know-how to the test and risk starting a new business in Greece or abroad. The speakers of this panel will analyze the adversities, opportunities and prospects related to the apps sector by pinpointing a highly promising and also hopeful category of technology professionals. Apps Awards 2015 The Apps Awards 2015 is the crowning moment of the Mobility Forum. Apps Awards 2015 is the largest Greek mobile technology and apps awards event. It aims to attract entries from small independent developers, established mobile app development companies, business to business and business to consumer developers. We don’t necessarily need to see uptake in the market. We want to find the innovation and the potential for longevity that exists in the Greek apps scene.
Apps Awards 2015 categories The awards are separated in 16 main app categories which have several subcategory awards. Entering an app for one Award does not exclude the possibility to enter the same app to another Award. In fact, we encourage developers and businesses to enter their apps that have aspects of several of the categories to all of them to maximise their opportunities and visibility. If your app does not seem to fit any of the subcategories, it can be proposed for the top category only. In this case it will compete with all other apps that have been submitted for an Award in any of the subcategories as these will automatically compete for the top category Award. Startup Apps Awards seek to particularly recognise the role that young entrepreneurs and developers, new companies and innovators play in the Greek app market. It has the very same categories as the Apps Award 2015, but is aimed at companies that have been in the business since 1 January 2013 or later. There will be only one Award per Category for startups. Startups can, and are encouraged to, enter their apps to the other Categories and specific Awards as well. The Judges and ETHOS MEDIA S.A. retain the right to combine or edit categories at their discretion based on the number of entries for each category. See Rules of Entry for more details.
