Discover your personal style Regardless of what you wear, your personal style or its lack thereof, shines through. It is a complicated and vast topic but figure out what kind of outfits/people inspire you and what you are most comfortable wearing. A good match between the two, should be a good starting point.
The
Notepad by Marya Javed
A writer, filmmaker, style enthusiast and YouTuber, Marya Javed gives away six style tips to find your personal style and to make the most of your outfits
Don’t worry too much about trends Don’t run after trends blindly, in fact don’t run after them at all. Own a few good pieces, collect them with love and then wear them over and over. You are not a mannequin and do not need a new look every day. If the trend figures in, sure. Otherwise, Anna Wintour hasn’t changed her hairstyle in 20 years, think about that!
Be comfortable If made to choose between pretty and comfortable, always choose comfortable. You could be wearing the prettiest clothes in the world or the fanciest designer, the highest heels or the brightest lipstick, but if you are not comfortable, you have defeated every purpose that fashion might have; including that of turning a head.
Have fun with fashion Try that funky eye shade. Wear a sari on any given Tuesday. Laugh it off if you get it wrong. There are a lot of things that need to be taken too seriously, fashion isn’t one of them. The more fun you can have with it, the better you will get.

APRIL 29-MAY 5 2018
Don’t overdo it Unless you associate deeply with a Christmas tree, it is best not to overdo it. By that I mean, don’t feel compelled to over style, over accessorise or over think a look. In most cases, less is more! Unless you are wearing red. Then more is more.
Don’t take tips too seriously Remember any advice is like a buffet, you take some, you leave some. Good fashion sense is most likely to come from inspiration and not from style guides. Also when in doubt, take a photo of yourself wearing an outfit and see how you feel. Fool proof, tried and tested method!

Anatomy WITH SONYA
HUMAYUN
Sonya Humayun loves all things fashion and keeps up with the latest trends while incorporating them with her own personal style, which she defines as classic and elegant. From her favourite silhouettes to how her style has changed over the years, she shares it all Understanding your body is the key to looking good and a trait found amongst all impeccably dressed fashionistas. While people shy away from talking about their bodies, these brave souls explain how they work their anatomies to their advantage

How would you describe your body type? I would describe it as curvy with a height of 5’6”. In your opinion, what is your most troublesome area? Thank God I can say none! Which silhouettes suit your body the most? Boot cut pants, my all-time favourite. In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing? Being too overdressed, even when it’s only the wedding of an acquaintance. One should always wear what they think they can carry well, and have their own sense of style. How has your style changed or evolved over the years? My style can never change, I believe in being simple yet classy. Obviously with time, trends change but I believe ones taste always remains the same. Has your body type changed over the last five years? It hasn’t changed over the past 10 years I guess. I only gained weight on my thighs which is quite unnoticeable. What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why? I don’t think too much, but I prefer wearing stuff I’m more comfortable in. I avoid sleeveless tops though.

IT RUNS IN THE

Muneezeh Hammad Brother and sister duo Emmad Irfani, a successful actor/model, and Muneezeh Hammad a preschool teacher, talk about their strong bond. From similar taste in music to their childhood antics, these siblings have been through it all
What is your favourite memory of each other? Muneezeh: I clearly remember when Emmad was born. He was so fair, I thought someone had put talcum powder on his face. I kept on touching his face to see if he was real. Emmad: When we were in Disneyland, alongside Mickey and Pluto. What is the craziest thing you’ve done together? Muneezeh: Once we snuck out in a car with our cousin who didn’t have a licence. Emmad: Probably egging while she drove and listening to Guns n Roses on full volume back in 1992. What did you get punished for the most as children? Muneezeh: I don’t remember ever being punished. Emmad: For having no interest in math, geometry or algebra. If you could wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the others closet, what would it be? Muneezeh: I think his cool t-shirts. APRIL 29-MAY 5 2018

If you could swap places with each other, what is the first thing that you would do? Muneezeh: Meet a lot of celebrities. Emmad: Relive our childhood. What is the one thing you love about your sibling? Muneezeh: He’s very understanding. Emmad: Her compassion. If you are fighting with each other how do you make up? Muneezeh: I don’t remember making peace with him as we don’t fight much. Emmad: I have forgotten that part totally since we don’t fight. What is the one secret talent your sibling has, that you wish you did too? Muneezeh: He has way too many talents. Emmad: Her quality of not shying away from expressing her opinion. Describe your sibling in three words: Muneezeh: Very sensitive, loving and very intelligent. Emmad: Altruistic, caring, great taste in music. Which fictional character is your sibling most like? Muneezeh: He’s not like any fictional character but reminds me a lot of Ben Affleck . Emmad: Robin Hood. How are your personalities similar? Muneezeh: We both are super sensitive and share similar tastes in music. Emmad: We grew up together so there are many similarities. I can’t live without my brother/sister because? Muneezeh: Because he is my baby brother. We’ve come a long way and we share history and of course, genes. Emmad: We have been through thick and thin and she introduced me to some of the greatest music.

How and when did you become interested in jewellery? As someone who was extremely passionate about wearing jewellery, I never wanted to repeat a piece I had already worn before. I was enthusiastic about buying new jewellery wherever I travelled. At the time, there weren’t enough brands in Pakistan that catered to the demands of people who were looking for creative and unique silver jewellery that is also easy on the pocket. After getting various compliments from close friends and family regarding my personal collection, I decided to create my own designs in 2010 that gave me a chance to explore a plethora of ways in which ornamental pieces can be crafted. What are your favourite pieces of jewellery (precious or costume)? I usually prefer to wear jewellery adorned with south-sea pearls that I can carry with most of my casual attires. I’m also fond of some of my signature costume pieces that I pick based on what I’m wearing and the occasion. For instance, I’d prefer an elaborate traditional necklace to pair with a sari for a formal event. Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favourite pieces? One of my other treasured pieces that I have made for my collection includes a carved ruby zircon necklace. It has been one of my masterpieces so far. I have always admired carved stones in my jewellery; however the process of
With almost a decade in the industry, jewellery designer Munazzah Godil unlocks her vault and tells us all about her brainchild. From the challenges of jewellery design to some of her favourite pieces, she tells us how she changed her passion into a career
carving out stones was a huge challenge at that time as very few possessed its technical knowledge in Pakistan. Where did you get them? These pieces are carefully designed and crafted by my craftsmen in Karachi where I pay close attention to detail and size, every step of the way. Each piece is therefore close to my heart. Is there any piece you are emotionally attached to and why? I bought a stellar diamond string from Dubai a few years ago that I still deeply admire and value. My parents bought it for me as I was absolutely awe-struck by the versatility and the simplicity of the piece. It has round, brilliant cut diamonds of one carat each in a single line. Is there anything on your radar that you want to get or make in the future? Over the seven years of my career as a jewellery designer, I have spent a considerable amount of time focusing primarily on bigger pieces. I would now also like to introduce a collection that is dedicated to smaller, delicate pieces of jewellery. These shall serve very well as gift items. I would also really like to own a vintage Columbian carved emerald and diamond brooch that I have recently come across. It has truly caught my attention and is one of a kind! APRIL 29-MAY 5 2018
