5am:
7:30am:
I usually wake up around 5:30am. I am a morning person so I love waking up early, around Fajr.
I drop my son off to school and head to PTV Home for my show! My hair and make-up is magically done within 45 minutes — thanks to the patience and resilience of our team.
6am: I offer my prayers, make breakfast and begin to get dressed.
8:30am: 7am: It takes me almost no time to decide my look of the day. I usually choose which clothes I’ll wear in the spur of the moment while I hang out with my son.
The show is in progress. I get the chance to meet and interview some brilliant guests — I love it!
10am: The show is still going on. APRIL 2-8 2017
38
10:30am: Two hours later we finally wrap up.
11am: I change out of my wardrobe and discuss the details of the next show. This takes about an hour and a half.
1pm: I usually have a lunch date. I enjoy meeting my friends during this time because I am not preoccupied with work or my family. I aim to meet different friends as much as I can. Pompeii, The Lahore Social, Yum and Cosa Nostra are usually my restaurants of choice.
2pm: If I’m in the mood, I’ll munch on one dessert or the other at this time.
2:30pm: It’s all about the gym for the next hour and a half.
4pm: I run some errands now. I go out to get my groceries, go to the dyers, and head out for kapraa shopping!
5pm: If I’m free, at this time I try to drop by my mother’s house to see her for tea.
6pm: I come home around 6pm and dedicate my time in helping my son Hamza with his homework.
7pm: My husband finally gets home and we all have dinner together as a family. Family dinners are a must, except maybe on the weekends.
8pm: It’s now Hamza’s bedtime.
9pm: Time for TV! I love to lounge on the sofa post-dinner and just laze around with my husband.
10pm: I’m passing out...
3am: By this time it’s pretty much impossible to wake me up! 39

FASHION
The chief editor of Karachista, a leading fashion and lifestyle blog, breaks down her style for us. Find out how she works her physique to her advantage while dressing herself Understanding your body is the key to looking good and a trait found amongst all impeccably dressed fashionistas. While people shy away from talking about their bodies, these brave souls explain how they work their anatomies to their advantage
APRIL 2-8 2017
44
How would you describe your body type? Miraculous — it’s incredible that a collection of cells and tissues can have children, create stories, walk, talk and simply be. To be honest, I’ve never really thought about my body type but when I Googled it, I guess I’m somewhere between a straight and an hourglass. Has your body type changed over the last five years? I had my youngest son five years ago and breastfed for over a year. So I have bounced back from my pregnancy chubbiness to something approximating my normal self. My metabolism has slowed down, but I think as you age that is natural. How has your style changed over the years? I was never interested in fashion as a teenager or even at college. I was a classic geek: more interested in books and astrophysics than fashion. When I first took an interest in fashion my choices were fairly safe, but now I have more fun with my style — though the overall look remains fairly classic. In your opinion what is your most troublesome area? My posture. I have a terrible, slouchy posture and can end up looking pregnant in pictures if I’m not careful. How do you dress your body according to your body type? Consciously I don’t do anything. I know what looks good on me but I also love trying out different styles. I don’t have the confidence to pull off just anything, but as long as an outfit isn’t too revealing, I’ll happily experiment. In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here? Blindly following trends no matter what your age! I dislike seeing teenagers and 40 year olds in the same outfits — it happens. I think women should be more willing to break from the pack — at any age. Also wearing clothes that are too tight or wearing the wrong undergarments can ruin even the prettiest outfit. They are all major no-nos in my book! Which silhouettes suit your body the most? It depends on my mood. If I’m bloated and pre-menstrual I’m too miserable to look good in anything, but if I’m happy I can look good in a sack! What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why? Low-rise, skinny jeans. They aren’t fashionable any more but I avoided them even when they were. After three kids, I have an appreciable muffin top, even when I’m at my slimmest.

IT RUNS IN THE
FAMILY WITH YASIR MIRZA AND HASEEB MIRZA
Brothers and co-owners of the gym, Evolution Fitness, share their bond. From wrestling each other as children to motivating each other to workout as adults, these brothers talk about it all!
What is your first memory of each other? Yasir: My first memory of Haseeb is when he was a little, pink newborn. I was seven at the time and I remember my mother telling me that I was going to have a baby brother. I remember coming back home from school one day and finding him there. Haseeb: I honestly can’t remember. I feel like I was born at four years old, when I used to run after him to let me play cricket. What is the craziest thing you have done together? Yasir: The list is never ending, but the craziest thing would be when we lied to our mother and went on a road trip. She thought we were spending the night at a friend’s house. Haseeb: Everything we do is partly crazy. What did you get punished for the most as a child? Yasir: I mostly got punished for trying wrestling moves on Haseeb. We were big World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) fans at the time. He would first agree to let me try the moves, but then he would start crying and get me in trouble. Haseeb: I was a big troublemaker — the total opposite of bhai. By the age of 17 I had been suspended thrice and my mother was worried about my future. I guess school just wasn’t my thing as I’m a nonconformist — I still pulled through like a boss though! If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the other’s closet, what would it be? Yasir: His clothes don’t fit me, so if I had to wear anything it would be his hoodies. If a hoodie doesn’t fit I’ll just leave the zipper open and pull up the sleeves. Haseeb: Probably his pyjamas. APRIL 2-8 2017
52
If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would do? Yasir: If I could swap places with Haseeb, the first thing I would do is shave! Haseeb: I would grow a beard and show him what being a real man feels like. What is the one thing you love about your brother? Yasir: I love the fact that he loves what I love; we literally have the same habits. Haseeb: I am what I am because of him. He has been a father figure to me my whole life and he is the reason why I got into fitness in the first place. Back in the day he would drag me (his overweight brother) to the gym. What is the one secret talent your brother has, that you wish you had too? Yasir: He has immense knowledge and is trained in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). If there was any money in Pakistan for the sport, I’m sure he would be up there with the best. Haseeb: It has to be working and knowing the in and outs of the corporate world. Describe your brother in three words: Yasir: Determined, an iron junkie and kind. Haseeb: Motivating, supportive and a leader. Which fictional character is your brother most like? Yasir: I would have to say Bumblebee because I have always been Optimus Prime. Haseeb: He has always wanted to be Optimus Prime. How are your personalities similar? Yasir: We both have a lot of passion for the same things in life — literally the same things! Haseeb: He is a carbon copy of me in everyway possible. We think alike and we even talk alike. I can’t live without my brother because… Yasir: We feed off each other, so when I’m down I need him to bring me up. He is my best friend; he tells me how things are without sugar coating them and we share the same dream. Haseeb: I wouldn’t be me if he weren’t here. He pretty much made me who I am and I owe him a lot.

ONE PIECE, THREE WAYS

ishat Linen’s ‘Freedom To Buy’ collection consists of a wide range of loose fabric shirts with both digital and rotary prints. The collection gives you the freedom to choose from a wide range of designs and style an outfit keeping in mind your own individual taste. t
WITH NISHAT LINEN
While trends fade, style remains eternal and one piece can be put together in many diff iff fferent ways. In this feature we have three fashionistas showing us how to put together an item from a designers collection, according to their own individual style and taste!
Sara Omar
Assistant Fashion and Beauty Editor, Libas International My personal style is generally fun, casual and edgy. I tucked in the Nishat Linen top into my ripped jeans and accessorised it with my white, mini Dolce & Gabanna bag, a necklace and a pair of studs. My signature hairstyle these days is a simple blow-dry. I kept my make-up minimal, but I love highlighting so I used Benefit’s ‘High Beam’ for a dewy, radiant look. I would probably wear this outfit to a daytime event like an outdoor brunch. APRIL 2-8 2017

Mehek Saeed Style Editor, Grazia Pakistan
My personal style has grown to be pretty minimal, but I like to throw in edgy accessories every now and then. However, this particular outfit didn’t need any accessories to make it pop. A simple white crop-top worn with high-waisted pants and a pair of brown mules did it for me!
Marya Javed
Founder, YouTube Channel ‘NO FOMO’
I dress according to my mood and who I want to be that day. For me, clothes and style is a way of expressing myself. For this Nishat Linen top, I kept the look minimal as I feel that all summer lawn looks should be simple and casual. As I wanted to do a formal look, I paired it with classic, beige stilettos and white pants.

INTERIOR
THE NOTEPAD Talented interior designer, Maira Chinoy Salman, jots down the six essentials you need to revamp your favourite space!
Flowers and greenery Flowers and plants give your home a natural and organic touch. Here you can see that even a little touch of red flowers enhanced this beautiful space.
Mirror A beautiful mirror can bring a whole room together. Not only does it make your space feel larger, it also reflects the beauty of how you’ve decorated it!
Height It is important to give your room the height that it has. Hang your paintings and mirrors all the way up the ceiling, place your windows and doors higher and keep floor-to-ceiling shelves. Rooms with height give a feeling of grandeur and openness.
Decorations and artwork These objects are representative of you! So choose a piece that speaks to you, whether it reminds you of a place you’ve been to, a hobby you have, or just something that makes you feel happy. Often, one or two pieces with character make the biggest impact.
Pop of colour Whether it’s through artwork, cushions, or an accent chair, a pop of colour brings life to the room.
Lighting The right lighting can set the right mood. A couple of lamps, along with dimmers on ceiling lights, allow you to play with the amount of lighting you need. APRIL 2-8 2017
