Motivational speaker and fashionista Zainab Reza spills her style secrets. We peek inside her wardrobe to find out her favourite silhouettes and the fads she avoids! Understanding your body is the key to looking good and a trait found amongst all impeccably dressed fashionistas. While people shy away from talking about their bodies, these brave souls explain how they work their anatomies to their advantage

How would you describe your body type? I think I have an hourglass figure. Has your body type changed over the last five years? My body hasn’t really changed much but I’ve gained and lost weight a lot over the years. What is the silliest fashion trend at the moment ? I am not really a fan of tiny glasses and plastic shoes. What are some of your current fashion obsessions? Belt and bucket bags for sure. In your opinion, what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing up? Over-accessorising is never a good idea.

Which silhouettes suit your body the most? I believe long flowy dresses with a clinched waist look best on me. What’s a style every woman should try at least once in her life? Classic white anarkali with churidaar and khussas, I think it looks very elegant and feminine. If you could raid anyone’s closet, who would it be? I would raid Victoria Beckham’s closet any day! She is one of the best dressed people in the industry. What item in your closet do you wear the most? I feel most comfortable in jeanss and sneakers. Boots, heels or flats? Flats, always.

FITNESS

With

Ayeshah Wakkas We catch up with Dubai based health and wellness trainer Ayeshah Wakkas to learn more about energy healing, Reiki and the changes one can make to build up towards a healthier lifestyle How did your fitness journey begin? As a teenager, my weight always fluctuated, especially during my trips to Toronto where I would binge on apple pies and hotdogs resulting in gaining 20+ pounds each time. Upon my return to Pakistan in 1992 from one of these trips after my 21st birthday, I got a wakeup call when my mother looked straight through me at the airport and didn’t recognise me. I gained an additional 25 pounds in a matter of five months that I was away. So I used that as a passion to start my fitness journey. Being a mother of three, how do you manage to take out time to meditate? How important is it? Because I am a mother of three boys, it’s most imperative that I do take time out for myself and meditate. Sometimes it’s a 30-minute walk with my music, other times meditation is sitting at home quietly and connecting with my breath and noticing each and everything that is going on in my body. There are days when I will sit for seven to 12 mins to do positive visualisations and affirmations for myself. This “me time” meditation is what fuels me to better handle everything that goes on around in life. So to answer your question it is essential to take out time to connect with ourselves. What are your views on Regression Therapy? Regression therapy essentially means going back in time. Going back can be into childhood, to infancy or even APRIL 21-27 2019

44

in utero experiences. Regression can be extremely therapeutic for some people, as they may come face to face with certain traumas, fears and phobias that they have been carrying with them which maybe is impacting their lives now. Since I am a Reiki Master I use Reiki instead of hypnosis as a healing and supportive mode for a person to get into a deep meditative state, which then facilitates regression back into childhood or infancy (or past lives) etc. Once out of this state, after a session is done, the person remembers everything they spoke about. Can you elaborate on energy healing? What is Reiki and how does it help in balancing energy? Everything around us is energy. Over time certain blockages appear in our energy field. Energy healing is a holistic practice that removes these blocks in our bodies to help us connect with our body’s inherent ability to heal itself. Reiki is an ancient Japanese form of energy healing. Our Chakras need to be rotating effortlessly for our energy to fluidly flow through our body. Hence, reiki helps in balancing this energy by removing the blockages. What is it that you think brings harmony between the mind, body and soul? One must start off with a positive perspective on life. Our thoughts that we create in our mind play a pivotal role in maintaining harmony. Connecting with our body, listening to it, taking care of it, eating right,

exercising helps as well and finally understanding our true purpose in life and what our strengths are. Consciously being aware and working towards the alignment of these three will help create complete harmony within you and around your space. What changes should one make in order to lead a healthier lifestyle? It is scientifically proven that 80/20 ratio work beautifully for us. This means 80% of healthier lifestyle depends on what you eat and the other 20% is how much you exercise. Be mindful of what you are eating. Are there any habits that lead to pessimism? Being ungrateful for all that you have, not counting your blessings on an everyday basis in my opinion is the number one habit that leads to pessimism. Inactivity can also lead to the mind racing towards negative thoughts, ultimately leading to pessimism. You have co-founded The Happiness Fitt in Dubai, what services are you currently offering? We offer an array of workshops geared towards individuals, women centric, as well as corporates. Meditations and positive visualisations, breath work and yogic stretching, Reiki healing session, Regression Therapy and fitness coaching and dance fitness are a few of the services that we are currently offering.

LIFESTYLE

Having spent most of her life in North America, Aqsa Azfar has now settled in Pakistan and always knew she wanted to be an artist/ performer. She has a penchant for drumming and playing the guitar, and loves spending time with her cat, Smoothie! Obsessed with skincare and cooking, Aqsa is here to make a mark in the industry! How did you venture into modelling? I always knew I wanted to be a performer but I hadn’t really planned it down to one thing in particular. I had been following Sophiya from @keepingupwithkhan for a long time and she was in Karachi, so we ended up meeting. That meeting eventually led to a collaboration for her brand, The Sassy Store, which we shot on her aunt’s rooftop that very day. The rest is history and I couldn’t be more grateful.

If you weren’t a model, what would you be? I would probably be a painter or a chef.

If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive who would it be? Eva Green. I would just listen to her talk for hours, have you heard her voice? Deadly!

Describe yourself in three words? Creative, generous and persistent.

Any hidden talent/talents? I can move my ears without touching them, does that count? Jokes apart, I can sketch and paint.

Biggest pet peeve? Hypocrisy.

What would be your trademark accessory? Gold hoops, always.

What are the three fashion trends you’re loving at the moment? Delicate jewellery, mom jeans and oversized jackets.

APRIL 21-27 2019

Top three favourite models? Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Gisele Bündchen and Cara Delevingne. What was the last thing you searched on Google? 10-step Korean skincare routine. I love skincare.

What was the last lie you told? I’m on my way.

When was the last time you were really scared and why? When I watched a movie on Netflix called May The Devil Take You.

One bad habit you want to quit but are unable to? Nail biting.

Three things you can never leave your house without? Cell phone, lip tint and a bottle of water no matter what.

What’s the best and worst thing about your job? Waiting has to be the worst part. But there’s endless things I love about it one of them being the amazing and talented people I get to work with!

If you had to be trapped in a TV show for a month, which one would it be? So tough! It would have to be between Friends and Stranger Things. First celebrity crush? I don’t even remember! Probably Chad Micheal Murray.

If you could only have one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Without a doubt, my mother’s biryani.

Would you rather be able to see 10 minutes into your own future or 10 minutes into someone else’s future? 10 minutes into the future of anyone but myself for sure.

One super power you wish to possess? Time travel.

Would you rather find your true love or a suitcase with five million dollars inside? I already found my true love so I’ll go with the suitcase.

Upon being asked about the three qualities he is looking for in a partner, he says “There has to be a level of connectivity. She will have to be intelligent and educated, perhaps a sense of humour. And most importantly, get on with my sisters.”

Twitter hits gold as ‘Student of the Year 2’ trailer releases Twitter has been on a rampage ever since the trailer of Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year 2 was released. Starring Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Panday the film has raised quite a few eyebrows. Twitterati accused the film of making fun of the Indian education system. Some thought both the movies Student Of The Year 1 and 2 are a perfect example of nepotism while others felt the story is a little too farfetched and not at all relatable.
