Kavalier by Khadija A. Malik
with
Kavalier is the pioneer of laser cut and innovative embellishment techniques in Pakistan. The looks worn by Zara Hafeez are from their Sensuality Collection, with a focus on natural and organic textiles and fabric treatments. The looks are minimal and understated and focus on the woman who wears them, accentuating her personality above all.
The urn kaftan is a heavy grip silk garment embellished with Greek motifs. The light silver laser work and embroidery keeps in line with the grey and pink theme of the collection.
Taking a traditional folk motif and converting it into a minimalistic formal ensemble enables Zara to head effortlessly from the office to a dinner party. DECEMBER 1-7 2019

Zara wears the butterfly appliquĂŠ ensemble from the Sensuality collection. The shirt is a dreamy imagining of butterflies on the finest tulle fabric, paired with cropped cigarette pants, and a contrasting dupatta with scalloped edges.
Zara rocks the blossom kaftan, a silk piece with criss cross detailing along the neckline which accentuates the femininity of this look.

everybody could enjoy delicious, wholesome food in the company of their loved ones, conceptualising the ideology, “good food good people”, which sits at the core of this establishment. How has Pakistan changed in terms of spending and eating out? Eating out has, perhaps, become the most popular activity in this country, with people of all types of social backgrounds flocking to restaurants as their primary source of enjoyment. The restaurant industry doesn’t seem to be dying out anytime soon, however, this is not to say that all eateries make it big. It’s tough competition out there and the consumer market is becoming more aware of the type of food, quality and value for money they’re getting.
How is Deja’s menu different from what other cafes are offering? Our food reflects our ethos; love local. I wanted to create a menu that was comprised of a variety of local ingredients, proving that the local food industry is at par with imported products, in turn supporting it and designing a menu that was “made for the people, by the people.” What inspired you to establish Deja? I wanted to create a space where

In your opinion what differentiates Lahore and Karachi in terms of taste and food? The two cities can be likened to two different palettes. I feel like Lahoris in general, lean towards desi and comfort food and are somewhat reluctant to try something new. Karachi on the other hand, experiments with food, has various cuisines you can try out and caters to a more refined palette. What trends do you see shaping the food and beverage market in 2020? A major shift towards local products which means we’ll hopefully get to see some interesting concoctions.
What is the secret behind sustaining a cafe? Hard work, dedication, and passion. Opening a café is akin to a relationship, you need to fully commit to it, and constantly change and evolve according to its needs. What continues to motivate or inspire you in coming up with a new idea for your cafe? I derive my motivation from satisfied customers. When I see them enjoying the food I labour over, it inspires me to get creative and serve up something new and different each time. What is your least favourite culinary trend? It would have to be dry ice! It’s everywhere!

Bachaa Party
Chikachino Flagship Café After years of success of Islamabad’s landmark restaurant Tuscany Courtyard, Dr Aamir Rashid has launched Chikachino Café. Located in the heart of Islamabad’s F7 area, the café offers special tea delights for serious tea drinkers. The owner developed the tea based on his instructions of “chik” combined with the type of tea ‘chino’; hence the name. Popular items at the flagship café include famous tawa chicken, Hyderabadi chicken along with the café’s signature breakfast menu.
Swing If you’re a foodie and love to take pictures for the ‘gram, then head to Swing in Karachi. The recently opened café in the heart of the city is probably the most Instagrammable place in town. From it’s pretty floral décor to the swings you can sit on while you munch on your food, to the lovely marble top tables, there isn’t anything about this café we don’t love. The café serves a variety of food from fresh Salmon rolls, to delicious salads and scrumptious pizzas to the delectable coffee which comes in an array of flavours. This little spot is definitely worth a try if you’re in the city. Check them out on Instagram.com/swing.khi
