The fun-loving and extremely talented actress and producer plays a round of rapid fire. She shares her favourite designer, her style icon and reveals who she would like to be stuck in an elevator with FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 4 2017

Describe your dream vacation: A vacation where I can switch off my phone and disappear.
three to four hours as I sleep at around 6:30am. When I am not working, I sleep for 20 hours.
From all the characters you have ever played, whom can you relate to the most?
If you could be any other nationality, what would it be? None. I am a proud Pakistani.
None of them! Name one person you’d like to work with that you haven’t already worked with: Nauman Ijaz — he is a very good actor. Early bird or night owl? Night owl. What was the worst punishment you received as a child? Who is your favourite designer? I don’t have a preference; if I see something I like at itwar bazaar I’ll buy it. I am a thrift shopper.
I have never really been punished, but when I was eight years old I ran away from home and so my dada slapped me.
Tell us something you learnt about Sanam Saeed on set:
What is the strangest thing a fan has ever done or said to you? The weirdest thing I have received is a bloody letter — it actually had blood on it. I have had stalkers too.
She zones out. Anything over 30 seconds, don’t even bother!
Janaan or Dobara Phir Se? Right now, Dobara Phir Se. List three things you need to have on set: Good energy, good energy and good energy. What is the last picture you took? I just took a picture on my Snapchat 15 minutes ago. It’s a bad picture!
What is the next big thing on your bucket list? Skydiving! If you could be stuck in an elevator with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and what would you do? Definitely my friends, Ali Rehman and Gohar Rasheed — they are both very entertaining. What is the weirdest pet name anyone has given you? I have a lot of weird pet names: my whole A-Level crew called me Lalum, as I was the only girl amongst 30 boys, my father calls me Limta and my mother calls me Heemu. How many hours of sleep do you get every night on average? When I am working, around

What is your favourite scene from Dobara Phir Se? It would have to be the wedding dances.
Who is your favourite style icon? Audrey Hepburn, I love her style.

The Fashion and Beauty Editor at OK! Pakistan, and the force behind the blog, Diary Of A Pasha, breaks down her style. Learn from her why sometimes, it’s best to break the rules Understanding your body is the key to looking good and a trait found amongst all impeccably dressed fashionistas. While people shy away from talking about their bodies, these brave souls explain how they work their anatomies to their advantage
FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 4 2017

How would you describe your body type? I’m definitely apple-shaped and slightly rectangular too. I don’t have those desi hips but I do have a huge belly. Has your body type changed over the last five years? My body type hasn’t changed, but my body size has. Unfortunately I have increased from a European size 8 to a 12! How has your style changed over the years? My style mantra has always been classic with a twist of glam or classic with a little bit of funk. My size doesn’t allow me to be too trendy, and I feel one should dress according to what flatters them no matter what the trends are. So if I want to incorporate a trend, I usually use it as an accessory. In your opinion what is your most troublesome area? My belly! How do you dress your body according to your body type? I wear looser and longer shirts, add a belt to hide the bulges, wear a jacket when necessary, or wear something flattering like an empire-line or a one-shoulder top. In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here? Fashion is a way of expression, and I don’t think it should be taken too seriously. I believe people can make whatever mistakes they want. Trying to dress proportionately is important, but attaining fulfilment and happiness is more valuable. So wear a short dress even if you have cankles because you only live once! Which silhouettes suit your body the most? I prefer to go with the flow. If something pleases me I’ll wear it, but I stay clear of short tops, if my pants are tighter. What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why? I would say a short choli or a crop-top, because of my shape.

FEATURE
THE VAULT WITH ZAHRA HIRAJ The talented handbag designer of the eponymous label, unlocks her vault to showcase her magnificent bag collection, and talks to us about what’s next for her line
How and when did your interest in bags begin?? ean who It started as a personal agenda — I mean doesn’t love bags? When I moved back ack from Canada five years ago, having missed the h glitzy lit elements of our ethnic culture, I purchased two metal clutches on a whim. They were meant to be casual accessories, but within a week of seeing them in my closet, an idea began to take shape; why not explore the market to custom make my own version of gilded glamour? What is your favourite clutch that you own? I don’t have a favourite, so to speak. The idea behind my brand is to provide our clients with one-of-a-kind, statement pieces that are reasonable but can compete in style and elegance with high-end brands abroad. Where did you get them? The main focus of planning an upcoming collection is procuring the moulds. Over time, I have progressed from using just metal, to incorporating interesting acrylic and shell bases. These I amass by exploring the local markets of wherever I travel to, which is fun, thoroughly interesting as well as educational. After all, one has to do research to deliver a worthy product.
Is there any piece you are emotionally attached to and why why? I wouldn’t say I’m attached, but I’m definitely emotional every time I see my designs being carried at social gatherings. It’s such a rush to see your creation as someone’s personal adornment. Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favourite pieces: This one’s not about a favourite piece but a favourite collection titled ‘The Chatoyant Collection’, which broadly features gems with shell and mother-of-pearl accents. While I was planning for this collection, I had no idea how interesting and beneficial a trip to the Far East would be. It’s a whole new world of beautifully crafted goods and I’m looking
forward to further exploring what else they have to offer. Is there anything on your radar that you want to make in the future? Most definitely! I already have a few collections lined up for this year. This time I want to explore Egyptian and African elements and add an ethnic twist. FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 4 2017

With the landmark 10th consecutive season of PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week (PSFW 2017), the Pakistan Fashion Design Council introduces an evolved show concept and structure. The council aims to prove its commitment to advance the pioneering platform towards an international and global standard and standing. Having done our homework on some of these changes, we bring you the top ten reformations we look forward to the most at #PSFW17
Let the business of fashion begin!
The Pakistan Fashion Design Council (PFDC) has researched, developed and is now engaging, international, seasoned experts from the United Kingdom to create a first of its kind production team. This team includes specialists for lighting, sound, choreography and set design.
PFDC will be engaging an international diversity of models, including a face of Vogue International. This new change aims to complement Pakistan’s top and burgeoning model line-up, and is a first for Pakistan.
PFDC is all set to introduce Sadia Siddiqui, Creative Head of the Londonbased Mustang Productions, who will be producing PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2017. We look forward to seeing how the international concepts blend locally.

For the first time in Pakistan, there will also be a structural change in the show’s format. Each of the four days is designed to be a curated and edited range of solo designers or duo shows. What this means is that two grouped shows will be featured on the runway.
This year, the show’s segments will be divided into two entirely separate spaces, and simultaneously there will be two independent ramps within the same venue. This is another first for Pakistan!
A fresh new take we’re especially excited for this year is high-street brand, Sapphire’s runway debut at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2017! The brand’s high-quality and chic designs, guarantee this segment to be special.
This year PFDC did a little renovation. As you head inside the venue and begin to find your seat, you will notice that the seating arrangement and the vibe of the show has been inspired and adapted from the fashion weeks we see internationally.

FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 4 2017
PFDC 2017 will introduce Press Accreditation to Pakistan whereby the council invites journalists, bloggers, social media influencers, broadcast media crews and photographers to apply for official accreditation in order to attend and cover PSFW 2017.
This year, Bank Alfalah and PFDC give more scope and depth to the ‘Rising Talent’ show. They are transforming it into a medium-long mentorship strategy, which incorporates year-round activities. The four designers that have been shortlisted to translate their vision into a collection at PSFW 2017 have been given a mentor for their collection. This season Maria B and Kamiar Rokni are mentoring them. A committee of 10 designers, which is headed by Sehyr Saigol and includes Ali Xeeshan, Maheen Kardar Ali, Nomi Ansari, Sana Safinaz, Yahsir Waheed and Sania Maskiatiya have also come on board as mentors for the ‘Rising Talent’ segment.
If you are unable to make it to the venue for any reason at all, don’t stress! This year, PFDC will be streaming the whole show live. So all the fashion enthusiasts in Pakistan and across the globe, don’t forget to log onto www.pfdc.org to keep up with the fashion fraternities favourite night!

his luxurious, us, bleu vet,, French velvet, med, mink-trimmed, egra al fur cape is an integral ahd d’s part of Meezan Fahd’s Th he debut collection. The cape not only has a ut rich, royal look but nd is super-warm and comfortable too — an ideal choice for formal winter events. This is a versatile, classic e piece, which can be y styled in a variety of ways.
WITH MEEZAN FAHD
While trends fade, style remains eternal and one piece can be put together in many diơerent ways. In this feature we have three fashionistas showing us how to put together an item from a designers collection, according to their own individual style and taste!
Iman Ahsan Barrister
I would describe my personal style as feminine and classic. I styled this Meezan Fahd cape with side-striped pants from Zara and a black top. To complete my look, I added a Goyard clutch and patent black Christian Louboutin heels. To accessorise, I wore my mother-of-pearl earrings and ring. I kept my hair straight and for my make-up, I went for a dewy look. I would wear this outfit to a formal dinner.

Fatima Malik Kamil Lawyer
I would describe my personal style as either understated yet elegant or sporty-casual. I was aiming for a classic, formal look for this beautiful Meezan Fahd cape, so I styled it with white flare pants. I then added an Alexander McQueen clutch and wore Steve Madden black pumps. For accessories I wore a diamond string necklace to give my outfit a regal touch, and also wore my everyday watch by Pandora, with a bracelet. I would wear this ensemble to a formal lunch or even a dinner.
Ayla Tayyib
Lawyer
I would describe my personal style as classic. You’ll usually see me in an all-black ensemble with statement heels. I styled this luxurious cape with white ripped jeans, a green sweater and my everyday jewellery, which include my pearl earrings, a statement ring and my Cartier bracelet. To add a quirky touch, I wore my Sophia Webster heels and a blue Alexander McQueen clutch! For my hair I went for an inward blow-dry and for my make-up I opted for smoky eyes with MAC’s ‘Pink Pigeon’ lipstick. I would wear this look to a formal brunch.

THE NOTEPAD
BOOKS
Sarah Ahmad, urbanist, public programmer and currently a consultant for the inaugural Lahore Biennale’s Mapping Project, jots down her love for the written word
Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare I’m a Shakespeare buff, and it’s hard to pick a favourite from his works, but I often find myself quoting from Antony and Cleopatra. It is such a powerful story about love, politics, history and the grandeur of the Roman Empire. At the centre of this plot is a strong female protagonist — Cleopatra — who is an important ruler and a demi-goddess in human history. I (not so) secretly wish I could play Cleopatra in a stage production of this play.
Kartography by Kamila Shamsie I think I have read everything that Kamila Shamsie has published and I just love the way she weaves a story. She’s such a gifted writer and in Kartography she effortlessly carries you through upperclass Karachi, friendship, and love. I finished the book in one afternoon. I can go on and on about it, but for now, I recommend it very highly.
The Stranger by Albert Camus The Stranger is a go-to book for anybody looking to better understand the absurdist and existentialist genres. This is a hard-hitting tale about a man held by court of public opinion due to his inability to conform to social norms. At the core of this story is a narrative about emotional and social acceptability, which resonates long after you’re done with the book.
Samarkand by Amin Maalouf This is a beautiful novel. Amin Maalouf writes about the city as a character, and his incomparable imaginative and descriptive prowess makes this story a literary masterpiece.
Essays in Love by Alain de Botton This is for the romantics out there — those who have delved into the intricacies of emotional relationships, had their heart broken and have (kind of) enjoyed talking about it. Alain de Botton is one of my favourite philosophers and authors. He writes about human relationships with a unique contemporary understanding of their layered complexities.
The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran This book should not need an introduction. There are two parts of my spiritual life — one before I read The Prophet and one after. Everyone should read this book.
The Death and Life of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs I’m an urbanist, and this book is part of urbanist scripture. It is one of the pioneering criticisms of the shortsightedness of modern city planning. Jane Jacobs is a very important figure for those of us who have studied urban design and planning history. This book might be for a niche audience, but it holds a very special place in my personal and professional growth. FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 4 2017
