2 Captain America is an American fictional character based on Steve Rogers, a World War II soldier. Captain America is a superhero who appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics and was the first Marvel Comics character to be adapted into a movie. Since then, he has made appearances in many movies and series. Captain America wears a costume that bears an American flag motif and is armed with a nearly indestructible shield that can be used for defense and can also be thrown as a weapon. Lets read more about him.
Marvel Comics A patriotic creation often depicted fighting the Axis powers of World War II, Captain America was Timely Comics’ most popular character during the 1940s wartime period. After the war ended, the character’s popularity faded and the comic was discontinued by 1950. Captain America was re-introduced as a soldier rescued from an iceberg by the superhero team the Avengers in The Avengers. Since then, Captain America has often led the team, as well as starring in his own series and has been featured in several other films including the recent release Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Captain America’s shield Captain America’s shield is his primary weapon. He has used multiple shields throughout his history, the most prevalent of which is an almost indestructible disc-shaped shield made from an experimental alloy of steel and the fictional metal vibranium. The shield has a five-pointed star design at the centre, within blue, red and white circles. Captain America often uses his shield as a throwing weapon and also for defense. He can perform a wide range of tricks using his shield to protect himself as well as attack enemies.
Superpowers Captain America posesses no superhuman powers, but through the Super Soldier Serum and Vita-Ray treatment, he is transformed into an ultimate human with increased strength, endurance, agility, speed, reflexes, durability and healing powers. Captain America’s battle experience and training make him an expert tactician and an excellent field commander. His reflexes and senses are extraordinary and he uses judo, kickboxing, and gymnastics into his own unique fighting style and is a master of multiple martial arts. Years of practice with his nearindestructible shield have made him able to aim and throw it with great accuracy. His skill with his shield is such that he can attack multiple targets in succession with a single throw or even throw to attack an enemy from behind. He is an expert in combat strategy, survival, acrobatics and military strategy.

Pizza cake Food inventions have long been shocking people and teasing taste buds but this new item on the menu would tempt anyone to try it. As bizarre as it may sound, a whole new stage of inventions has been unlocked with the launch of a pizza cake. A North American pizza chain has asked its customers to vote for their favourite from a catalogue of pizza innovations. The long list of entries included a pizza-shaped shirt pocket and of course the seven-layered phenomenon of bread, tomato and melted cheese – a pizza cake among others. As much as we’d all love to try this fantastical pizza there do seem to be a few practical issues. The mark of a good pizza is its even crispness – but with seven layers, can that consistency be maintained throughout or will the middle becoming a soggy mess? Also, how on earth do you pick the olives off if they’re covered in layer upon layer of melted cheese, bread and tomato? Well, we will have to try this pizza to check if it is practical and delicious. METRO.CO.UK
In-flight entertainment High-flying theatre fans were treated to Romeo and easyJet as the comedy troupe, The Reduced Shakespeare Company, earned the world record for the highest theatrical performance. The trio acted out an abridged version of the playwright’s works at 11,277m (37,000ft) for the passengers on the flight to Verona. They performed at the front of the plane after rehearsing at the airline’s Luton training centre to mark the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth today. EasyJet’s Paul Moore said: “We hoped to set a Guinness World Record in the process for the highest ever theatrical performance as well as providing a highly entertaining show for passengers.” The show on the flight, which took off from Gatwick, was also to support a bid to make April 23 National Shakespeare Day – along with St George’s. Meanwhile, plans are in place for Shakespeare’s life and works to be celebrated worldwide in 2016 to mark the 400th anniversary of his death. The British Council is devising a global programme of events that will recognise Shakespeare as a ‘living writer’ who speaks for all humanity and nations. There will be funding for touring productions, an international festival of Shakespeare in music and on film and a mass- participation global digital project. METRO.CO.UK

Skiing on wheels
An Austrian company is making waves after they came up with the idea of taking a jet ski - and fitting it with wheels. The company that took the jet ski out of the water and put it on the road as an electric vehicle capable of going 50miles on a single charge say that after unveiling the idea they were flooded with requests and are now working round the clock to meet demand. The jet ski on wheels known as the ‘Jetflyer’ works in exactly the same way as its water bound counterpart, with the same sort of construction for steering that involves moving the front console. The big difference is that it has an electric motor. The ‘Jetflyer’ can manage a top speed of just over 30mph and it only takes an hour and a half to fully charge the battery and with every device being hand-finished to suit the customer, they have already created a model for golfers and another for firemen. Company manager Michael Ritt says, “One of the popular things is our promotional offer ‘Move my own vehicle’ where the customer gets to help with the building of the machine by making all the individual requirements that they might need.” INDEPENDENT.CO.UK
Biggest bunny Meet Darius, the world’s biggest rabbit. Weighing in at three-and-a-half stone and 4ft 4in tall, Darius is about the same size as a five-year-old child. The giant rabbit ploughs through 4,000 carrots, 120 cabbages and 730 dog bowls of rabbit mix over the year. “He has a great personality and so I can’t be too angry when he is trying to sneak more food,” says his owner Annette. “Luckily he likes to hop around all the time – I had to put a child gate on the stairs to stop him going up there.” The Continental Giant rabbit currently holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s biggest rabbit. “There is no secret to growing the world’s biggest rabbit,” she claims. “I just look after Darius as if he was a dog. I treat him really well and indulge him in the odd carrot or 12,” she continues. METRO.CO.UK

6 By Mohammad Abdullah Saad Age: 12 years All of us have a desire to become someone who is strong, helpful and cool - someone who we admire, someone with superpowers. We all love super heroes. But being a super hero for a whole day would be an experience of a lifetime. And if I had that opportunity, I would become the mind blowing Martian Manhunter, John Jones. Most of us do not know about John Jones but he is a part of the Justice League. He lived with his family on Mars until there was an invasion. His family had died and he was the only one left of his kind. He then met the Justice League group and knew that he found a new family to live with. John Jones is endowed with a range of superpowers. One of his main powers is telepathy. He can read other people’s minds and see what they are thinking. He can change his shape and size, which means that he can turn into the body of any fellow human and change his size. He can prove his worth in battle as well. He has the power of invisibility and with his super speed, strength and endurance, he can easily launch a full out attack on his opponent. He can also fly which helps him attack from above and see everything from aerial view. His telepathy allows him to read the enemy’s mind, seeing his next move before it can be performed. John can also control density and create force-fields. If any of his fellow comrades get hurt severely, his x-ray vision allows him to see the damages and point them out. He is a man for infiltration. His telekinesis (superpower) allows him to move any type of objects with his mind. He himself can turn into stone or metal, blocking the attacks of the target. Although his power is great, he also has some weaknesses. One of his weaknesses is fire and the other is flashbacks of his past reminding him of his family. Seeing his wife and children makes him happy and wants to live in that illusion. But remembering what really happened to them fills him with sorrow. Now all I can imagine is having all these powers and being John Jones for one whole day. I could read people’s minds to see what they are thinking about! I would help doctors to see the inside of people’s bodies to see the small damages they cannot see. I could shape shift into anyone I wanted, which would be really cool. If I could fly as well, I would help planes and help the army and air force. I would also save cats from the trees and return them to their owners. If anyone was in danger, I would go and save them and make sure to prefect our country. I would also stop bank robbers and the people who shoot innocent citizens and children. It would be a dream come true. I really like John Jones and chose him because I think he is cool and has amazing powers. Other than that, he is a nice man and can be trusted on any sort of occasion. For most of the people who love watching Justice League and superhero shows, I really wish they could see how awesome of a hero John Jones is and admire him. I know they are a lot of superheroes but John Jones is one of my favourites. Note : To participate in our Essay Competition and have your story featured in this column, look out for our ad next week.
