Midtown Madness is a racing game developed for Windows by Angel Studios. The game was first released in 1999 and was then followed by two sequels including Midtown Madness 3, introduced in 2003 on the Xbox. Unlike racing games that usually limit the player to a race track, Midtown Madness provides the player with the open world of Chicago. Players can explore the city through one of several modes, and can choose the weather and traffic conditions for each race. The game also supports multiplayer races over a local network or the Internet. Players start off with five vehicles, and five more can be unlocked. The Checkpoint mode in the game allows players to also set traffic and the number of police cars, and pedestrians in the game. Midtown Madness is different from other racing games of its time, especially those based on the Need for Speed series, as it provides an open environment rather than a closed circuit. This makes the gameplay different and allows the player to explore and discover things in the game.

Did you know? Postal system Different from many other types of communication that send electronic signals, the mail system involves actual transportation of a message, either a letter from home or a bill from the electric company. This transportation path originating from sender to the recipient has become a sophisticated network of carriers ranging from people, to airplanes, to tractor trailers, to smaller vehicles. Though the concept of mail dates back to the invention of writing itself, an actual mail or postal system was not created till much later. In a time around 2400 BC, Pharaohs employed curriers to deliver written documents throughout Egypt. Each region around the world entered the development stages of mail at different times throughout history. Rome is claimed to have the first well-documented postal service which arose under Augustus Caesar around the time of the birth of Christ. The U.S. Mail system was responsible for the improvement and creation of the transportation system throughout the country. Anytime a new mode of transportation was invented, the US Postal Service would willingly try it out in hopes of finding new ways to decrease travel time for mail. For example, in 1896, the Post Office experimented with the “horseless buggy,” long before many people even were aware of its existence, all in an effort to speed up mail delivery. It was in March of 1860 that a pioneer in American transportation, William H Russell placed the following ad in newspapers: “Wanted: Young, skinny, wiry fellows not over 18. Must be expert pony riders willing to risk death daily. Orphans preferred.” His goal was to find individuals to ride from St. Joseph, Missouri, to California carrying mail. St. Joseph was, at the time, the most western point of the country accessible to mail via the railroad. This 2,000 mile expedition was deemed impossible by many as it was a very unfamiliar stretch of country which was extremely treacherous. Besides the planned stops along the way, each about 10 miles apart, the land was primarily inhabited by Native Americans. The stops along the way were for the most part constructed as a place to house the horses which would be exchanged by riders passing through. Riders had to endure the harshest of circumstances, from bitter cold winter blizzards, to hot arid summer thirsts for water, not to mention the actual 75 to 100 mile stretch each had to endure before he could rest and turn around to head back. Riders were paid around $50 per month to carry about 25 lbs of mail in a leather satchel which was paramount in quickly transferring mail between horses . Through the 19th and 20th centuries, mail was sent via many methods, including horseback, stage coaches, steam ships, trains, hot air balloons, and finally airplanes. However, none of these methods are nearly as effective as the method which is so commonly used today — e-mail. The implementation of e-mail has effectively made communicating simple and efficient. However, it would be expected that the use of postal mail would in turn decline due to this large growth in communication via e-mail. This assumption is more than just that, it’s a fact. Since 2001, there has been a drop of 7% in use of first class mail. This can only be linked to an increased use of e-mail. Though the use of mail has been dropping, it’s also been offset slightly by an increase in bulk mailing of advertising. Looking back over the history of mail, society in general has come a long way from delivering a message by horseback or ship and awaiting the arrival which could take weeks, to the nearly instantaneous sending of birthday card, bills, and correspondence with the click of a mouse. Head in the clouds Two men have developed a machine to make artificial clouds out of foam. What started as a light-hearted hobby has turned into a full-time profession. The ‘cloud vendors’ from Zhengzhou City, capital of China’s central Henan province, built the machine which makes foam bubbles. The bubbles are then forced through wooden boards containing cut-out shapes. This creates clouds in the shape of stars, hearts, marshmallows and birds. Once the shape starts sticking out enough from the stencil, the customer can use a stick to cut it free allowing it to float into the sky. Real clouds are made from condensed water vapour floating in the atmosphere. The pair told local media they can now earn up to £1,000 a day from the parents of curious children who want to use their machine. They declined to give too many details away, but admitted that the clouds were created by a mixture of compressed gas and foam, making the substance float hundreds of metres into the air before those below lose sight of it. The two friends now exhibit their creations in a local park for visitors. MIRROR.CO.UK
Drone-punching eagle
Add eagles to the list of things that don’t like drones. An Australian drone operator found that out the hard way when a wedge-tailed eagle “punched” his high-tech toy right out of the sky. “This is the last thing a small bird sees when a Wedge-Tailed Eagle decides that you are dinner,” Adam Lancaster, the drone operator who posts videos under the name Melbourne Aerial Video, wrote in the YouTube description. “Eagle was fine — she was massive, and used talons to ‘punch’ the drone out of the sky, Hung around overhead so I got a really good look. Do not fly drones near birds of prey, they clearly attack seeing you as a threat or the right-sized dinner,” Lancaster wrote. “This will cost you money and potentially harm the bird.” HUFFINGTONPOST.COM
World’s oldest cat Guinness World Records just revealed the name of the world’s oldest living cat, but its old news for this puss. Corduroy, a domestic long hair living in Sisters, Oregon, turned 26 on Aug. 1, and won the coveted honor after the previous title holder, Tiffany Two, died in May. Corduroy was probably a little catty about the award, because it was his second time winning it. Tiffany Two — who was 27 years, two months and nine days old when she died -- snatched the record away from Corduroy last October when she was nominated and discovered by Guinness World Records. Tiffany Two held the title for seven months before she died, according to ABC News. Corduroy hasn’t commented on the honor, but his owner, Ashley Reed Okura, is very pleased. “We are thrilled! I bought Corduroy a mouse to celebrate,” she said in a Guinness World Records press release. “He is such a mellow, cool old cat and it is wonderful to share him with the world. It’s truly amazing to have picked Corduroy out from a litter when I was almost seven years old and still have him in my life today.” Okura credits her cat’s long life to good genes and letting him roam outdoors. The World’s Oldest Living Cat title is Corduroy’s to lose, but he has his work cut out for him if he wants to be the Oldest Cat ever. That honor goes to a cat in Austin, Texas, named Creme Puff who lived a whopping 38 years, three days, before dying in 2005. TODAY.COM
Python out and about People are being warned to be on their guard after a 9ft python escaped from a property in Essex. The giant reptile disappeared from a home in Shoebury, a town at the mouth of the Thames Estuary in the UK, last week. Experts believe the constricting snake might be hiding under a nearby garden shed and is likely to emerge when the sun comes out. Iain Newby, of Dangerous Wild Animal Rescue Facility, has been called in to help with the search. “It has probably ended up under a nearby shed,” he said. “If the weather is nice, there is a good chance it will come out to sun itself. As a result, when the sun is out there is a much greater chance of finding it. If anybody does spot it, then please let me know and keep an eye on it until I get there.” Warnings about the wandering reptile have been posted on Facebook and Twitter. TELEGRAPH.CO.UK
Poet’s corner Hearts of Green & White by Ayaan Faraz Pillars of fire beat down from the sun, Black earth bends and blinds Striking the faces of those for which sacred colors were spilled. Stumbling through the desert of stone and glass moving not forward nor back
For the day when green and white stood through the shimmering skies and wavering hearts; When streets would flood with a sea of green and white and the people stood
Faces stare from the sky, this is not what was supposed to be.
As their flag, together in the blowing of the winds, as the face of their nation
So the sparks flew, swept by the wind, white hot flames rise to the heavens;
In the inkiest of nights, white crescents become beacons of light
Dampened hearts forget the blood spilled to give them life yet today green and white flames intertwine.
The nation stands as a tiger with its claws to the raging storms, the flag waves immortal
A blast resounds throughout an idle desert

In the face of overwhelming power, with no hope, the blood of thousands gushed;
From the past and to the future, resounding independence, with hearts of green and white.

Lake of remembrance By Laraib Irfan Thud! Thud! Thrash! The thunder seemed to get louder. Another droplet of water dropped onto my cheek and my eyes slid open. I got up and found myself wrapped in a cozy blanket made of leaves. Maybe a gift from God, I thought. I couldn’t remember why was I in the middle of forest, unconscious. After a while, the rain stopped. I heard a splashing sound. A few yards away was a lake. I sprinted towards it. Hippos were dancing, flowers were dazzling and birds were chanting songs there. “Drink the water, drink the water, Don’t drink too much, just a quarter.” At the side was a board which said: ‘The Remembrance Water’. I took a sip and memories came flashing in my mind. I was the princess of Alaska and I had set out on this excursion to extricate my brother from the atrocious witch, Morgana. Now I got to know why the lake was called the Lake of Remembrance. I glanced up at the sky . From a distance, I could spy a white unicorn with a white horn attached to its head. It thumped on my side. I recognised it, it belonged to my father. I mounted it and it flapped its wings twice and then took off. The view from the top was breath-taking and picturesque. But soon, I spotted a red, fierce dragon with wide nostrils and ferocious fire coming out of them. It was guarding the tower in which my brother was kept. We had to fight the dragon to enter the tower. I took out my sword and signaled the unicorn to go near the dragon. As we neared it, the fight began. The dragon threw fire at me but I dodged it. And then I pierced my sword into the dragon’s throat and in a minute or so , the dragon lay lifeless. The unicorn dropped me on the top of the tower. My brother was there, tied with ropes. I freed him but as soon I was about to say something, the witch Morgana made her way into the room. “How do I fight her?” I thought. And my brother replied, as if he was reading my thoughts, “She will die only if you’re able to take off her necklace.” I began thinking of ways while she was casting a spell on me but I was too quick for her. I had taken out my sword and placed it at the tip of her throat. From the other hand, I tore away the necklace. She tried to say something but her figure faded and the only thing left of her were her clothes. My brother and I jumped onto the unicorn and it took off. On the way, he thanked me for saving his life. We reached Alaska two days later. People cheered for me. Everyone was dancing and celebrating. Even my strict father managed to smile.
