Hi light
3 The hardest part about New Year resolutions is sticking to them. So, if you do want to change and keep your resolutions then you should take the following steps:
Be clear about what you want. For example, if you want to change your habit of not doing your homework on time then you should decide a timing to dedicate to your homework every day.
Be specific. Cover the two points; what do you want and how you will achieve it.
Understand why you want it. Why do you want your room to be clean? Maybe you want to impress your parents or your teachers or don’t want to stay up till late struggling to finish your work and hand in bad work the next day.
Be committed. A lot of us just give up on our resolutions after just a week, but remember it is the committed strong ones that do not.
Write it down. Maybe finding your resolution from under your bed after half a year could help you get back on the road to improve so write your resolutions down and may be stick them in a place in your room that you see them every day and are reminded to stay committed to them.
Get a partner. Find a friend who has the same goals as you so that you can back each other up when you feel like giving up.

Sandwich delay A pilot who wasn’t happy with the onboard food menu reportedly delayed his commercial New York-bound flight for two and a half hours because he wanted sandwiches. Captain Noushad apparently asked the catering department at Pakistan’s Allama Iqbal airport for his own tailored foodstuffs to take onboard. When they said they could only provide items that had been pre-approved, they directed him towards a five-star hotel in the city which would have to courier his order over. Having demanded the sandwiches for his Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight Pk-711, the 6.45am departure had to be revised to 9.15am instead. The delay to the New York via Manchester flight is likely to have resulted in inconvenience for any passengers needing to change for connecting flights. As reported by a local newspaper, PIA management changed the menu on international and longhaul flights from November 25 onwards. It downgraded lunchtime sandwiches to peanuts, crisps and biscuits in a cost-cutting exercise that instead resulted in delays. METRO.CO.UK
Santa Jaws Santa Claus has shown he’s willing to brave the ‘depths of the ocean’ as well as the colds of the North Pole to deliver his presents. Someone dressed as Father Christmas got snapped getting close to a shark. The picture was taken at Manly Sea Life Sanctuary in Sydney, Australia, and showed the festive diver feeding the shark with small fish. The brave man wore a traditional red hat and costume as well as the scuba diving gear. He didn’t get too close to the ferocious animal and is safe to complete his deliveries. METRO.CO.UK

Oldest Turkey
For many of her friends, Christmas is the end of the line. But Patchwork, the turkey is still going strong after avoiding the roasting tin for a decade, a feat believed to be a British record. To celebrate the elderly bird’s tenth birthday, owner Linda Turvey decided to throw her a party – complete with cake, cards and an announcement in the local paper. Turvey, of Hen Heaven bird sanctuary in West Sussex, said Patchwork’s longevity was down to being spoiled with a diet of grapes, bananas and turkey eggs. The 54-year-old added: “It is like being a 100-year-old person who still does a marathon. She is getting a bit senile, she is like an old lady who wants her tea although she has already had it. Patchwork is my favourite turkey as she’s very beautiful and loving.” Male turkeys usually live for two years, and females three. Those bred for food live for about a year and Patchwork has definitely beaten all records. METRO.CO.UK
Downsized Abbey Model-maker spends 26 years building a stately home for dolls. Dripping in gold leaf, with marble floors and chandeliers of Swarovski crystal, it’s the dream home that anyone would be jealous of. After more than quarter of a century of painstaking construction work, it’s all ready to move into, but there’s just one problem. In order to take up residence, you’ll have to be no bigger than a doll. The house built to a scale of 1:12 was conceived by Leonard Martin in 1987, when he was bored at work in his military memorabilia shop and doodled it on a piece of paper. The product of an idle whim, it became a passion that he worked on for more than a third of his life for up to 12 hours a day. He’s spent more than £6,000 (Rs1,035,000) on the Georgian-style fixtures and fittings and now hopes to sell it for £9,000 (Rs1,552,364), bringing him a £3,000 (Rs5,17,500) return for his 26 years of hard work. “I drew a picture of what type of house I would build if I had the money and decided to make it into a dolls’ house,” said Martin, of Charlton Marshall, Dorset. “When it was quiet in the shop, I’d work on it and some people would joke that if anyone was to visit my shop they would end up being gold-leafed themselves.” The 68-yearold admitted he would be sad to part with his 1.9m (6ft 2in) by 1m (3ft 6in) creation which even has its own suitably grand name, Langdon House. He’s already planning to start work on another but vowed: “This time it won’t be nearly as big.” METRO.CO.UK

Word Origins Festival You must have heard the word festival when talking about seasons or events. Have you ever wondered where this word that defines an event or a celebration originates from? Well, the word ‘fest’ derives from the Middle French word ‘festivus’, from the Latin word festivus or festus meaning happy. It was first recorded as a noun in 1589, before it had been used as an adjective from the fourteenth century, meaning to celebrate a church holiday. Feast first came into usage as a noun and feast was used as a verb to define the activities held in a fest. Also, certain institutions celebrate their own festival (often called ‘fests’) to mark some significant occasions in their history. These occasions could be the day these institutions were founded or any other event which they decide to celebrate periodically, usually annually. Hence, from the word fest came festival, which we now widely use to define celebrations or events.
