Well, you or should grab a copy of the International bestseller and read through the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Written by American author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney, it is a series of realistic fiction novels about what it really is like to be a kid. The book is about a s. boy named Greg Heffley and his struggles in middle school. Let’s flip through the series and some of the main characters. *Character references on page 3. Rodrick is Greg’s older brother. He is aggressive and spends a lot of time torturing his younger siblings (particularly Greg). Greg fears that Rodrick will tell the whole secret his summer experience he doesn’t want anyone to be aware of. And Rodrick surprises Greg by altering the true story to his brother’s advantage making him popular in school for a short period.
Rowley is Greg’s best friend, but becomes his ex-best friend in The Ugly Truth and Hard Luck. He is the second main character of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Rowley has what Greg considers strange interests for his age and gender, such as the DinoBlazer action figures he receives as a birthday present, which are supposed to be toys for kids aged seven. Rowley is also the owner of the comic strip Zoo Wee Mama. In The Third Wheel and Hard Luck, Rowley begins dating Abigail Brown, a girl from school who was initially supposed to be Greg’s date for the Valentine’s Day dance and thus Greg is forced to find a new best friend.
Manuel “Manny” Heffley is Greg and Rodrick’s younger brother. He is spoilt, annoying and constantly favoured by their mother. Manny is very intelligent for his age. He managed to keep the electricity turned off in every room of the house with the exception of his own in Cabin Fever and also changed the password to Greg’s account on a gaming website. He frequently damages the property of his older brother Greg but gets away with it. The parents affection and favouritism for Manny frustrate Greg deeply.
Gregory “Greg” Heffle Heffley is the main character of the series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. d.. Greg’s frustrations d fru revolve around his family, friends, schoolmates and especially his best friend, Rowley Jefferson. Greg documents his thoughts and misfortunes mi through illustrations in his diary. On several occasions thro throughout the course of the series, Greg finds himself in compromisin compromising situations that often end with him suffering the most from humilia humiliation, even by the adults in his life and especially from his older brot brother, Rodrick. Greg is also always paranoid. After he does something w wrong he fears punishment and vengeance. In rare cases the boo books, in spite of showing his hardships, do give him some measu measure of peace through his friendship with Rowley, or a period p of iisolation where he resolves to be luckier next time.

Trunk tunes Who knew a trunk can carry a pretty decent tune too. Peter the elephant could not resist putting the ivories to use when pianist Paul Barton visited his sanctuary (shelter). And while the pair played on 12 Bar Blues, Peter’s younger neighbour, Soi, danced to the rhythm. Barton, 52, has played to elephants in Thailand since 1996 but this is the first time one has decided to join him for an impromptu tune. He said Peter’s reaction in a sanctuary in the mountains near Kanchanaburi, north-east of Bangkok, was completely spontaneous. “Some elephants have an extraordinary sense of rhythm,” he added. Not only do elephants feel the music, they can also pick up on emotions. Barton, from East Yorkshire, said when he switched to John Lennon’s classic Imagine, Soi appeared a lot calmer and moved close to the pianist. “Elephants feel love and grief just as we do,” he said. “Music that expresses human feelings is often appreciated also by elephants.” Fascinating isn’t it? Hungry fox A fox was snapped with its head buried in the snow after jumping 3ft in the air while hunting a vole (a small rodent resembling a mouse). The moment was caught be photographer Mike Eastman, who lives and works in the wilds of Wyoming, in the US. “He went down and popped back up with it a few moments later, it was incredible skill to be able to break through the ice and land directly on his target,” he said. “He couldn’t resist a meal.” And guess what, the fox did eventually emerge from the ice with the vole in its mouth. Can you finish that? TV first If you wake up on Christmas Day and your presents haven’t been delivered it could be because one of Santa’s reindeer was too busy watching TV. Aatu is not like most reindeer. Instead of running around in snow he prefers to sit in front of the television. The six-year-old orphan was raised by humans and has picked up many of their tendencies (even the lazy ones). When Aatu isn’t watching TV, he’s pulling sleighs filled with tourists. There are easier ways to earn £116 and a novelty T-shirt, but none quite so satisfying. James Brettell doesn’t look like the classic fast food joint customer. Yet his athletic frame hides an Olympian appetite and iron will. After 116 people had tried and failed to gobble up the ‘Gigantwich’ – an 8,000-calorie heart attack on a plate – Brettell succeeded. The feast contains: sausage, beef, turkey, lamb, steak burger, hash browns, various cheese, stuffing, a cheese omelette, tomatoes, cucumber, salad, mayo, BBQ sauce, mustard and onion rings. The fillings are sandwiched between six thick slices of bread with chips and coleslaw on the side. It weighs 2.5kg (5.5lb) and costs diners £17.95 if not completed within 45 minutes.“I saw a picture of the sandwich on Facebook and it was the size of a baby. I just thought ‘‘I’ve got to get me some of this’’,’ said Brettell. “I’ve always been pretty trim but recently I’ve been training hard at the gym and only eating one or two big meals in the evenings.” How did he manage it? He had help from the Rocky movies. Brettell, 26, said: “By the end it gets quite hard to stomach each mouthful without feeling sick. I think the owner could see I was flagging so he started playing Eye Of The Tiger through the restaurant speakers to keep me going.” The champion from Essex, completed the task in 36 min and 10 seconds. Word Origins Barbecue The word ‘barbecue’ comes from the Caribbean word ‘barbacoa’. Originally, a barbacoa wasn’t a way of cooking food, but the name of a wooden structure used to smoke food. Besides used for cooking, the structure of sticks could also be used as an area for sleeping, storage, and shelter. Spanish explorers took the word barbacoa back to Spain, where it appeared in print for the first time in 1526. For a while, barbacoa still referred to the structure that food was cooked in, but after a while people started using it to refer to the process of cooking food in a barbacoa and the cooked food itself. The first known instance of barbecue appearing in English print was in A New Voyage Round the World by William Dampier, published in 1697. In this case, it referred to the structure as a place for sleeping: “And lay there all night, upon our Borbecu’s, or frames of Sticks, raised about 3 foot from the Ground.” As you can see, the spelling was already starting to evolve, perhaps to make it easier for English tongues to pronounce. By 1733, it had started to mean a social gathering during which meat was grilled. About two decades later, in 1755, the word ‘barbecue’ was entered into Samuel Johnson’s The Dictionary of the English Language. Today, there are just as many spellings for barbecue as there are meanings for the term. Many people use barbeque, BBQ, Bar-B-Que, and other variations thereof. That said, the official spelling is generally considered to be ‘barbecue’ with a ‘c’, similar to the original. While people may debate over what should be the correct spelling or what exactly is barbecue, there is one thing we can all agree on: a barbecue is definitely no longer a shelter or a sleeping structure.
