3D globe Want to make a 3D globe for your next project or maybe you want to use it to decorate your room, well we have one that is perfect for you. Contributed by Shamama Shabbir

Instructions: Place the ball on a firm surface and paint the entire ball with light blue paint and let dry. Repeat if needed. Use a map of the Earth as a guide, then lightly pencil the continents onto the globe. Fill each continent with glue. Spread sand on an old newspaper and gently roll the globe around in the sand until all continents are covered. Carefully tap off the extra sand. Paint the sanded continents green, except for Antarctica and the top of the globe, which should be painted white. Let dry completely. Use a cotton swab to gently dab brown paint onto areas of the green where your map may indicate deserts or more barren lands. Let dry. If you can, ask an adult to seal it with acrylic spray for it to remain clean & neat.

Baby’s Day Out This little one had no clue that you need a driver’s license to be behind the steering wheel... all she knew was that she had to see her dad. A six-year-old girl took her mother’s BMW car out, hitting two parked cars and eventually smashing the vehicle into a utility pole, all in an effort to drive to see her father in a nearby town. Luckily she was not hurt and nobody else was injured in the accident. Police Sergeant, Jerry Parker, said: “The girl decided she wanted to visit her father, who lived in a different location. She picked up the car keys and got in the car and drove away. How she knew how to operate a car - your guess is as good as mine.” Passer-by, Rommie Hawkins, chased the car when he saw how young the driver was. “I was like, ‘Stop, stop, stop’. She looked at me, and she took back off and she stopped again, so I started running up the hill, telling her to stop, and she was going and stopping, going and stopping,” he said. After the car crashed, the girl clambered out of the wreckage without a scratch. She was crying and asking for her father. Police are investigating whether the girl’s mother should be charged for allowing the girl to leave her care. SOURCE: WEB.ORANGE.CO.UK

Snake-sitter A Chinese family has raised eyebrows with their choice of babysitter for their 13-year-old son a 15ft giant python. Azhe Liu, from Dongguan, Guangdong province, was born six years after his dad Chan Liu brought home a python egg and hatched it out. “I’d always thought them the most beautiful creatures and I was interested to see what would happen when my son came along,” explained Chan. Instead of being frightened, Azhe would often cuddle up to the cold-blooded 220lbs predator, finding comfort in his cooling coils on hot summer days. “After a while we were certain the snake wouldn’t hurt him and we began to leave them together alone. They really are inseparable,” said dad Chan. Eventually the family began to look on the Burmese python as a kind of nanny, who’d look out for their son when he was alone. “I don’t think many kidnappers would tangle with her,” said dad Chan. The human touch

In Will.i.am’s latest music video, “Scream ‘n’ Shout,” a human hand can be seen clasping what appears to be a sophisticated robot hand stolen from the set of a high-budget sci-fi film. Now, it has been revealed that the accessory in question is a genuine prosthetic hand that, its makers claim, has taken us one step closer to truly simulating the real thing. Unlike common prosthetics, the i-limb Ultra can move each of the five fingers individually. That means users can hold and grip stuff. “The first generation (of prosthetics) had what is called a pincer grip -- the fingers are reflexed so they do not change shape and they move in one plane. Whereas this hand can rotate at the knuckles,” explained David Gow, the British inventor and engineer behind i-limb. As well as the practical benefits afforded by the added range of grips, Gow believes the i-limb carries a significant psychological advantage because finger movements are what most people associate with the human hand. People who’ve used the i-limb said that they see the digit as what gives them the sense of having a hand back. “We can’t approach the subtlety of skin, sensation of temperature, touching things yet. But we’ve broken through the barrier of making a hand that looks like a medical device,” said Gow. SOURCE: EDITION.CNN.COM

Ballooning After more than 55 days flying over Antarctica, NASA’s huge Super-TIGER scientific balloon has broken the record for the longest flight of its kind, bringing back a wealth of data, the US space agency said. The Super-TIGER balloon spent 55 days, one hour and 34 minutes aloft at an altitude of 127,000 feet (38,710 metres), beating the old record set in 2009 by just over a day. It was gathering data on the high energy cosmic rays that hit the Earth from elsewhere in the galaxy. The process included the use of a new tool to measure rare elements heavier than iron among the influx of rays. Scientists are looking to better understand where these high energy atoms come from and how they get so super-charged. “This has been a very successful flight because of the long duration, which allowed us to detect large numbers of cosmic rays,” said principal investigator Bob Binns. NASA said the data will take up to two years to fully analyse. AFP

Spiderman returns Just like a tattoo, I’ll always have you... That’s exactly how this tattooist feels about his wife. After having inked 56 stars on a girl’s face he caused more controversy by writing his name across his young wife’s face - less than 24 hours after he met her. Ruslan Toumaniantz became notorious when he tattooed a galaxy of stars over the face of Kimberley Vlaeminck, then just 18, after she nodded off in his studio in Coutrai, Belgium. Now Toumaniantz has struck again by tattooing his name in letters five inches high across another girl’s face. Lesya Toumaniantz allowed him to sign ‘Ruslan’ over her face in giant Gothic script on the day they met. “It’s a symbol of our eternal devotion. I’d like him to tattoo every inch of my body,” she said. SOURCE: WEB.ORANGE.CO.UK

This Spiderman doesn’t need to shoot a web to swing from one building to another, nor does he need a costume to hide his identity. A French daredevil who has scaled some of the world’s tallest buildings has conquered Cuba’s famous Habana Libre hotel without ropes or a safety net. Alain Robert, 50, aka Spiderman, succeeded in climbing to the top of the 27-storey hotel in about half an hour. He said his main concern was not the height of the 27-storey hotel, but its condition. Like much of Havana, the hotel is in a state of disrepair. “You know it can be rusty, the concrete can be damaged. So, I could break this or that so it’s a bit scary,” he said. Robert has scaled much taller structures in his career, including the Sears Tower in Chicago, New York’s Empire State Building and San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. Two years ago he took six hours to summit what currently is the world’s tallest building, the 2,717 foot Burj Khalifa in Dubai, although for that he used some safety equipment. s n i g i r O d r o W Frank Do you know why the people of France are called Franks? Well, the Franks were a Germanic group of people who conquered Gaul in the sixth century CE. Just as the Saxons were named for their favourite weapon, the seax (knife), the Franks were named after their weapon of choice, the franca (javelin). The Saxons were the people of the knife, as the Franks were the people of the javelin.
