The stresses of heroism come to a head in Amazing Spider-Man #50, when Peter Parker literally throws his Spider-suit into an alley trash can. The suit is quickly discovered by a kid who brings it to newspaper publisher J Jonah Jameson, Parker’s employer and world-class Spider-Man hater. The news of Spidey’s departure spreads quickly, as does city-wide crime, while Parker enjoys the life of a regular teenager (and not getting punched in the face every night). By the end of the issue, however, Parker remembers Uncle Ben and why he got into heroism in the first place, and returns to duty.

Peter maintains a regular life as best as he can, eventually befriending Harry Osborn, a rich kid with an abusive dad. Initially, Harry is jealous that blonde bombshell Gwen Stacy is more interested in Peter, but the two eventually bro it out and become roommates. During this time, it’s also revealed that Harry’s crazy dad Norman is the Green Goblin, Spidey’s chief archnemesis. He chooses to defeat the Goblin by telling him Harry’s deepest secrets, in turn making Harry one of his greatest enemies, set to avenge his father later.
Just like all other superhero films, Spider-Man has also had a fair share of movies where he jumps, crawls, weaves webs and saves the world. Below is a timeline of Marvel’s flagship Spider-Man films.
Surprisingly, the first ever adaptation of the famous comic novel was actually a television series. In 1977, the pilot episode of The Amazing Spider-Man series was released by Columbia Pictures as a feature film. Later, in 1978 and 1979 episodes from the series were re-dited and released as feature films by the name Spider-Man Strikes Back and Spider-Man: The Dragon’s Challenge, respectively.
In 2002, Peter Parker became a household name after the first installment of the Spider-Man franchise came out. An orphaned high schooler, Parker pining after the girl-next-door Mary Jane becomes
offered him a handsome paycheck to drive around town instead of using his trusty weblines. Spidey was unable to return the car to Corona after Mysterio tricked him into driving it into the Hudson, which, may actually have been a good idea, all things considered.

the spider-man after he is bitten by a geneticallyengineered ‘super spider’ on a science class field trip. After Parker’s uncle is murdered, he realised he should utilise his superhuman abilities to protect New York City. Two years down the line with Spider-Man 2 (2004), Parker struggles to balance his superhero and private lives. In a quest to strike the balance, Spider-Man contends with Dr Octopus, who sets out to recreate a fusion-based experiment that could destroy New York City. In 2007 Spider-Man 3, Peter is still seeing Mary Jane, while Harry Osborn succeeds his father as the new Green Goblin. Flint Marko, an escaped convict, falls into a particle accelerator and becomes Sandman. Peter later learns that Marko is the one who killed his uncle. This vendetta is enhanced by the appearance of the mysterious black alien symbiotic substance that bonds to Peter, resulting in the formation of a new black costume. Once Peter separates himself from the alien, it finds a new host in the form of Eddie Brock, a photographer set out to defame Spider-Man, creating Venom.
In 2012, the franchise was rebooted with a new director and new cast, realising The Amazing Spider-Man. It focused on Peter Parker developing his abilities in high school as he fights Lizard, the monstrous form of Dr Curt. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2016), takes place two years after the first film’s events with Parker graduating from high school. While continuing his relationship with Gwen Stacy, he combats the electricity-manipulating Electro.
The Jackal creates a strain of bedbugs which, much like the original spider that gave Peter Parker his powers, give anyone they bite similar spider-powers. And because Manhattan is so populated, those bugs get everywhere, and everyone gets powers. It takes 10 issues for everyone in New York to gain and lose their Spiderabilities, and less time for people to totally abuse them.

Spidey’s complete disregard for bringing weird space junk back to Earth once again proves disastrous, as another stray part of the Venom symbiote joins with Cletus Kasady, a real cool guy who burnt down his own orphanage as a kid. The resulting creature is called Carnage, and he looks like a grinning mess of blood and guts. Over time, the symbiote breaks off into even more gross monsters, and like the Duggars, Venom has over a thousand offspring. These include creatively-named villains like Scream, Riot, Agony, and other such things. It’s not all bad news, though, because some later symbiote babies are good guys, including Anti-Venom and Toxin.
Peter’s dear, decrepit Aunt May has been shot because Peter revealed his superhero identity to the world during Marvel’s Civil War crossover event. Though the sequence of events leads straight back to Tony Stark’s negligence, Tony refuses to help Aunt May as she lays dying in a cheap hospital ward. Instead, the all-powerful demon Mephisto shows up, offering to retcon the Marvel Universe as a whole. Aunt May will live and Peter Parker’s identity will return to being a secret, but his relationship with his wife, Mary Jane Watson, will be erased from existence, as will their future child. Peter takes the deal, and 45 years worth of relationship progress are wiped out instantly.

Death comes to us all when we are gaming, presenting us with anger-inducing Game Over screens and the feeling of defeat. Sometimes, those deaths are well-earned and are the outcome of taking on a strong enemy or attempting to complete a maneuver that requires great skill. But sometimes these games have rather dumb ways to kill a player, here’s a look at some of these:
Start a journal Let’s face it, we start to forget some things — especially the little details — as we get older. A journal can be a powerful way to recall the events that happened in your life that made you who you are. Getting in the habit of writing down the events of your day each night is a great way to remember the specifics. Entries on what you’re thinking about now can be the basis of powerful memories and reflections in the future. Plus, it can offer a release from the tensions of the day. All of that for just a pen and an old notebook? It’s a great free way to spend some time.
Death by Cuccos — The Legend of Zelda series If you’ve been gaming for a good while, then you’re probably well aware of The Legend of Zelda series. If you’re familiar with Link’s adventures, then you’re probably familiar with his many enemies. It turns out, however, that the humble chicken, known as the Cucco, is Link’s greatest foe. Antagonising one of them can bring down a fowl doom upon our intrepid hero. Don’t poke the chickens. They will poke back — with a vengeance.
Start or join a fanta sy sports league With baseball season just getting underway, you can go to Yahoo! Sports, CBS Sports or ESPN and easily start a free fan tasy sports league for you and yo ur friends. Even when you’re jus t playing for bragging rights, a fan tasy league can spur competitiv e banter and endless discussion be tween your friends as the season unfolds.
Build some paper airplanes Design and build a bunch of different paper airplanes, the n have a competition in the backyard to see which one flies the best. This is a great way to use up some scrap paper, particularly old newspapers. You can easily turn it into a contes t — the winner gets to pick wh at activity to engage in next, or gets to choose what you’re having for supper.
Start a book club — or find one to join If you like reading and know other friends who enjoy it, too, consider starting a book club with them where you all read the same book for a week then meet to talk about it. It can transform lly reading from a solitary activity into a more socia oriented one. Check out our ‘Top 10 Young Adult summer reads’ for some ideas on where to start.
Getting run over — Grand Theft Auto V There’s a wide arsenal in Grand Theft Auto V for players to use, ranging from small firearms to the death-bringing Rhino Tank. With so many tools at one’s disposal, you’d think that the dumbest way to die in this game would involve some kind of rocket launcher mishap or a grenade bouncing back, sadly, it turns out that all you need is to be on the street at the wrong place and time and a non-playing character will happily perform a hit and run on you.
Overcooking a grenade — Most first-person shooters Anyone who has played a first-person shooter within the last few years should be familiar with the concept of ‘cooking’ a grenade. This involves holding an unpinned grenade in your hand for a bit before chucking it at your enemy, with the hope that it explodes upon impact and won’t bounce around on the ground. Sometimes, players do this thing where they successfully cook a grenade, but overlook the ‘throw it at the enemy’ part and, boom!

Get your weekly dose of unusual and funny news from across the globe! Tort-walking duties Robbie with the new legs An eleven-year-old Shetland sheepdog named Robbie has been nicknamed ‘RoboDog’ thanks to a pair of new bionic legs. A series of medical problems, including paw injuries, skin tumors and orthopedic issues, made walking difficult for Robbie. His owner, Sharman Steel, of south east London, tried painkillers, surgery, antibiotics and hormone replacement, but nothing gave her beloved pet the quality of life she felt he deserved. “For various reasons Robbie got Cushing’s disease which can cause muscles to get floppy,” Steel said. “He had operations on his hind legs, which should have been routine operations, but because of the Cushing’s he didn’t heal well, the bones didn’t knit. He could still walk, but it wasn’t very comfortable for him.” Things took a step for the better when veterinarian Dr Pete van Dongen suggested Robbie be fitted with orthopedic braces on his hind legs. Now the ‘Robo-Dog’ can walk safely without causing any damage to his hind legs. Robbie is a pioneer, according to van Dongen. HUFFINGTONPOST.COM
A squishy solution Two baby tawny owls, who were rescued after falling from their nest, adopted a cuddly toy as a surrogate mum. The two ‘balls of fluff’ were in danger when they were found on the side of a path after falling 25 feet out of a tree. Fearing they were going to be eaten by dogs a dad out cycling with his son saved the stricken pair. Andy Tawny, 44, and his son Ben, 12, used a bike helmet as a makeshift nest. The owlets were taken to a rescue centre where they were given the pretend owl in their aviary to make them feel safe. They immediately snuggled in to the owl pillow and slept either side of their new mum, even cried out if she was taken away. The owls were found in the Newmillerdam country park in Wakefield, West Yorkshire and taken in by Wise-Owl rescue, who this year have taken in 30 tawny owls. Now after being fed on a diet of mice and chicks from an owl hand puppet, they are due to be released back into the wild. Wayne Auty, 50, who runs Wise-Owl rescue in Huddersfield with his wife Katrina, 32, took the owls in and believes they wouldn’t have survived another hour had they not been rescued. MIRROR.CO.UK
New York City is filled with oddities that can surprise even the most die-hard New Yorkers and when Henry the tortoise turned up in a stroller in Central Park this week for his daily outing it turned more than a few heads. The 17 pound sulcata tortoise is 24-year-old Amanda Green’s buddy. He led a reclusive existence until Green took to Craigslist to advertise for a tortoise walker. New Yorkers are accustomed to dog walkers but not so much with tortoise walkers, so Green expected only a few responses. Instead, the listing went viral and hundreds of people from all over the world applied for the $10-an-hour job. “Just like a person who has a dog would hire a dog walker, I figured why not a tortoise walker?” Green said. “It went viral, I heard from about 500 people,” said Green, a copywriter for a style and beauty website. UK.REUTERS.COM Hidden history Russell Card of the Historical Society of Highlands shared photos of the boat describing it as a 43-foot long coal barge, long been rumoured to be underneath the house. “I’ve heard about it before and the first time I ever saw it was yesterday. I never realised it was so big. I was amazed at the craftsmanship of it,” said Card. The boat was discovered when the beachside bungalow rented out by Eileen Scanlon were raised on pilings for construction. Scanlon, who lives next door, said she was aware the boat was supposedly underneath the property and had seen something resembling a rudder through a crawlspace when she purchased the home in 2010, but was shocked by the actual size of the vessel. Much of the boat remained intact and pieces of coal were also found in its vicinity. Card said that the area had functioned as a dock during the 1920s and water used to reach up through the back area of the current house. UPI.COM Chick without the shell A group of Japanese high school students made an amazing discovery. They have worked out how to hatch a chick from an egg without the shell. Their incredible finding has not only made the video of the discovery viral but has also been published in scientific journals. There is, however, some dispute over whether this is actually the first time an experiment such as this has been successful. To begin the process the students stretched out a piece of cling film and placed it over a plastic cup. They then cracked an egg on top of the piece of cling film, sealed it and then placed it in an incubator. By day three in the incubator, the chick’s heart was formed and by day five a clear outline of its tiny body was clearly seen. Twenty one days later, the chick popped out of the embryo. By keeping the egg in a clear transparent, plastic cup, the students and their teacher Mr Tahara were able to observe the entire process, hour by hour. MIRROR.CO.UK

6 True Letters from a Fictional Life by Kenneth Logan

The Leaving by Tara Altebrando
If you asked anyone in this small Vermont town, they’d tell you the facts: James Liddell, star athlete, decent student and sort-of boyfriend to cute, peppy Theresa, is a happy, funny, carefree guy. But whenever James sits down at his desk to write, he tells a different story. As he fills his drawers with letters to the people in his world — letters he never intends to send — he spills the truth: he’s trying hard, but his life is just not perfect. Is he destined to live a life of fiction?
Eighteen-year-old Jill Charron wakes up in a hospital room, leg in a cast, stitches in her face and a big blank canvas where the last six weeks should be. Care that includes a lawyer. And a press team. Because maybe the accident... wasn’t an accident. Now Jill is determined to piece together the past.

Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait This 2006 documentary follows one of the game’s greatest players, Zinedine Zidane, throughout the 90 minutes of a single match. Zidane was filmed during Real Madrid’s April 23, 2005, match against Villarreal using 17 synchronised cameras that followed his every movement made during the match (even his sending off). The film is set to a soundtrack by Scottish experimentalrock band Mogwai, who contributed a dark-brooding backdrop to the film.
join the apocalyptic mission. It is then up to Xavier and his team to stop the supervillain and his aides from destroying the world. The movie’s first problem (of many) is that there are so many characters that the film can’t do justice to any of their stories. Moira MacTaggert’s (Rose Byrne) presence seems redundant to the adventure. Jubilee (Lana Condor) doesn’t do anything memorable in the film. The horsemen get minimal development; Olivia Munn’s Psylocke just feels like an exercise in fan service. An appearance by an uncredited player seems superfluous (although it is still more exciting than the parts played by most of the credited X-Men). The villain is underwritten, and Oscar Isaac is wasted in the role, his face hidden under a mask of makeup and prosthetics. Most elements of the storyline seem overly familiar, and Simon Kinberg’s screenplay lacks the wit and smarts to make the proceedings interesting. The movie’s most memorable sequence is given to Evan Peters’ Quicksilver, and it reinforces the fact that a little more humour could have made the proceedings a lot more entertaining. On the whole, a talented cast and some impressive action sequences can’t hide the deficiencies of the X-Men’s latest escapade. Director Bryan Singer has created an overlong, underdeveloped adventure, employing more characters than necessary, then relegating most of them to the background, while rehashing old themes. And it is never a good thing when an installment leaves you with the impression that the franchise has nothing new left to offer. Rating:
Goal! The Dream Begins
The Miracle Match
Pelada
Goal! The Dream Begins is the first installment of the Goal! trilogy, and was made with the cooperation of FIFA. Goal! tells the story of a Santiago Munez, a young Hispanic man, living in a poor area of Los Angeles. Santiago’s dream is to play professional football. However, the closest he can get to this dream is playing in the local leagues with other Hispanic workers. It’s in one of these local league games that Santiago’s skills are seen by former Newcastle United player and scout Glen Foy. Glen wants to help Santiago fulfill his dream, but does Santiago have what it takes?
Based on the book by Geoffrey Douglas, this 2005 drama stars Gerard Butler with appearances by former US men’s national team player John Harkes and rock star Gavin Rossdale. The film tells the true story of USA’s 1950 World Cup soccer team. A team that was hastily put together players from St. Louis, Missouri and New York City. Many of the players came from ethnic neighbourhoods and played in recreational leagues. After mere days of training together the team plays the mighty English side at the World Cup, and registered the most historic win in US soccer history.
There are few soccer documentaries that are as enlightening and inspirational as this one. Pelada is a documentary following Luke and Gwendolyn, two former college soccer stars who didn’t quite make it to the pros. Not ready for it to be over, they take off, chasing the game. From prisoners in Bolivia to moonshine brewers in Kenya, from freestylers in China to women who play in hijab in Iran, Pelada is the story of people who play. It’s the type of documentary that will inspire you to pick up a ball immediately after the end credits finish rolling. It’s a joy to watch, and a must-see for any football fan.

And, of course, skateboards. • They toured with Selena Gomez (21) once and got to party with her on her tour bus. ‘‘She’s honestly really down to earth and she’s very cool,’’ Keaton says. • The band was originally called American Scholars when they started out in the sixth grade. ‘‘We’d hang out in [Wesley’s] basement, eat granola bars and write punk songs that were super-dark and emo and awesome,’’ Drew says. ‘‘We just played around the Seattle area, and we were super little dudes with long hair.’’ • They’re huge fans of British boyband One Direction. • Keaton once quit the band! ‘‘I told them they sucked. I walked out two songs into it,’’ he says. • The guys are all addicted to blogging site Tumblr. It helps them pass time when they’re on the road. • The boys were some of the ‘popular’ kids in school — but Drew and Wes were actually former
enemies! “It was like, dude, who’s that other cool kid at the school? Why is there another one? It’s not supposed to be that way,” Wes says. “Then we ended up joining forces in sixth grade and it was awesome.” • Keaton finds inspiration from the music of Sublime, while Wesley says his muses are “The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blink182, Green Day, and SUM41.” As for Drew? “Rise Against is my favourite band. We like punk.”
We all love looking like our favourite teen idol. Not only do we copy their attitude nonchalantly but also try to incorporate their style into our lives. And to make it easier to adopt their ever-changing fashion styles, we have a list of top three trends of our favourite teen idol Ariana Grande. The 22-year-old American singer and actor, Ariana Grande is known for her eccentric bubbly personality. The high pony tails are her go-to hairdo that she flaunts making her effortlessly chic. For an extra bump to make it look higher and fuller, all you have to do is take two bobby pins and place them under your pony at the back. Considering that style is more important today in pop music than it was back in 1991, Grande chooses dresses that are cute, comfortable and on-trend with a feminine slant. She is often seen adorning crop tops or babydoll tank tops with jeans. But her all-time favourite top trend is peplum shirts complementing her petite physique. When it comes to jeans, Grande looks most confident in ripped, casual, super-sloppy boyfriend jeans. For a casual stroll around the beach, Grande opts for flip flops paired with a loose tank top. And for an evening out with friends she throws on a girly-girl floral corset or a peplum top with heels finishing her casual classy look.
