TOSS UP
WITH AREEBA HABIB What is the last photo on your camera roll? A selfie I took at a shoot. If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you take with you? A bottle of water, a helicopter and my phone. Choose an alternative career for yourself: A designer or a stylist. Who is your favourite person or account to follow on Instagram? Rosie Whitley-Huntington and Izabel Goulart — I love following both of them on Instagram. A lie you told to get yourself out of work? I love my work and I have never ever lied to get out of working. What song is stuck in your head at this very moment? Steal My Girl by One Direction and the title track of Janaan. What was the last thing you ate? A Thai salad.
Well-acclaimed model, Areeba Habib, plays a round of our Toss Up. From her worst experience on a shoot, to her favourite travel destination, find out more about this strikingly beautiful, and amusingly candid girl!
Who is your favourite designer? In Pakistan I have too many to name, but internationally Versace and Karl Lagerfeld are my favourites.
JANUARY 1-7 2017

What is the strangest prank call you have ever received? I have not really ever received a weird call from anyone. What is the best compliment you have ever received? People often tell me that I am sweet and that I am very down to earth. What was your first thought when you woke up this morning? I woke up thinking about the gym, because I recently intensified my workout routine. If you could wake up tomorrow in the body of someone else, whom would you pick and what would you do? I would be Rosie Whitley-Huntington and I would model for my favourite brand — Versace. What question do you hate to answer? When people do the same show, with the same designers but then backstage they ask “kya karna tha?” It really puts me off. What is your dream vacation spot? Paris! I have been there twice but I still love Paris. What did you do for your last birthday? I invited all my friends and colleagues for brunch. What was your worst experience on a photo shoot? Once a photographer on a shoot accidently dropped his camera and broke it. We had only shot two outfits at the time… What is on the top of your shopping list? Shoes and bags — always! Which famous person do people tell you that you most resemble? Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. Who is your favourite photographer of all-time? I have had a great experience working with all the photographers here.

THE VAULT WITH SANA FAROOQ The talented jewellery designer of Fanas Jewellery opens up her vault for us, sharing her favourite heirlooms and some of her own designs
How/when did you get interested in jewellery? I have always liked creative things that bring something new to the table. As I grew older I wanted to explore a new skill, and thus came my interest in gemmology. The feeling I had after I designed and handcrafted my very first piece, I knew I was in love. Ever since that, jewellery designing has become my passion. What are your favourite pieces of jewellery? My mother’s Rolex is an all-time favourite. Also, any of the rings in my collection that go with my outfit at a particular time, becomes my favourite in that moment. Where did you get them? Every piece I have made holds a unique place in my heart. I would even say Fanas is a reflection of myself. All my jewellery goes through an exceptional journey, starting from the inspiration taken from my experiences, days of designing and the hard work of the craftsmen. Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favourite pieces: One of my favourite pieces is a long, traditional necklace, gifted to me by my father. I want to make my mother wear it someday, so that it becomes even more special and valuable. Is there anything on your radar that you want to get in the future? Anything and everything related to Fanas! Ever since the venture launched, it has been a constant learning experience. Every day is a new surprise and I’m looking forward to designing new pieces soon.

WITH MOHAMMAD MOIZ The founder of the lifestyle blog, Lace & Scotch, and the brand manager of Lala Textiles, talks to us about his style evolution — even sharing his most stubborn trouble area!
Understanding your body is the key to looking good and a trait found amongst all impeccably dressed fashionistas. While people shy away from talking about their bodies, these brave souls explain how they work their anatomies to their advantage
JANUARY 1-7 2017

How would you describe your body type? I would describe it as athletic. Has your body type changed over the last five years? It sure has! I used to have a lean and fit body, but currently I need to start working out again, to get back in shape. How has your style changed over the years? My style has definitely evolved over time. I try to stay on-trend and I am always on the lookout for statement pieces. In your opinion what is your most troublesome area? I would have to say my most troublesome area would have to be my belly. I would love to have six-pack abs someday, but for me, maintaining a flat stomach is the toughest! It all comes down to healthy eating habits, and it’s tough to control. How do you dress your body according to your body type? Plaid is my absolute favourite pattern — I believe

you can never go wrong with it. You’ll find a lot of checkered shirts and jackets in my wardrobe. Even on a daily basis, I find myself wearing checkered shirts with black jeans quite often. When it comes to formal or red carpet events, I prefer suits, tailored jackets or waistcoats. In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here? Wearing the wrong shoes! It is extremely important to choose the right shoes on any given occasion, but especially when one has to wear suits. Which silhouettes suit your body the most? Casual button-down shirts and polo shirts. Since I don’t have a lean body I tend to stay away from t-shirts. What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why? Coloured socks — it’s just not my thing!

Shershah Khan
Director, Dotcom Sourcing and CEO, Sway Home I would describe my style as semi-casual. I love my jeans and t-shirts. I was aiming for a semi-formal, casual look. I generally like wearing tailored pieces and dressing them down, so I paired this Sapphire jacket with jeans and a simple t-shirt. I would wear this look to a polo match.

The CEO of Luscious Cosmetics, Mehrbano Sethi, welcomes us into her favourite space, her multi-functional study room By Minahil Qasim
A
s the temperature drops and fog takes over the winter sky, we make our way to Mehrbano Sethi’s house located in a quiet residential area of Lahore. We enter through the wooden, main door and are directed towards the study room where our gracious host awaits us. This is a contained space incorporating neutral hues. Natural light enters through a large windowpane as the wooden blinds have been folded up. A hardwood, panelled floor on which a 20-yearold Persian carpet, gifted to Sethi by her father sits. The furniture is contemporary and minimalistic; a lime green Home Couture chair adds the right amount of colour to the room while the white quilted couch gives the space a fresh vibe. A Home Couture coffee table sits proudly in the centre of the study. Antique detailed lamps displayed on the side tables belonged to our host’s mother, but have been painted red to add colour to the room. The art pieces by Qamar and Hanif Ramay enhance the grace and grandeur of the area. “In my parents house, where I

grew up, there is a massive study room where I used to study during my exams or whenever I needed some alone time. I’m an only child so alone time is very important for me. I wanted to recreate that same feeling, incorporating a room in the house where one can read, relax, listen to some music and unwind,” our host explains. Books that have been collected and preserved by Sethi over the years are the main attraction in her study room. Sethi’s most prized possessions include novels that have been personally signed by authors such as JK Rowling and Dan Brown, and 200-year-old antique books that were gifted to her by her father. However, when we ask our host about her favourite collection she points enthusiastically at the Enid Blyton novellas. “I only brought a fraction of my book collection from my parents’ home as I don’t have space for all of them, but my father sent over my Enid Blyton collection that was lovingly preserved by my mother since I was four. Now my five-yearold daughter reads them,” she smiles. A built in wooden work space designed by interior designer, Omer Nabi, proudly displays not only books and statement pieces, but is also home to Sethi’s Starbucks city mug collection that her friends bring back for her whenever they are travelling. As we begin to inquire about her remarkable art pieces, she recalls: “There is a very funny story about this ‘Godfather’ painting. It is the only piece of art in this house that was chosen and bought from Hong Kong upon my husband’s insistence. It has this geeky vibe to it but somehow it found its way here and manages to gel well with my latest acquisition — Qamar’s grey lady!” She walks us back to the comfy white couch as we ask about her most precious memories in this room. She pauses for a second and fondly reminisces: “There have been many memorable events in this space, but my favourite has to be when my daughter took her first steps, it was in this very space.” As we get ready to bid farewell, we take one last look at Sethi’s multi-functional study. This corner is the perfect escape from everyday mundane affairs, where one can simply switch off and get lost in the world of movies and books, or even just get in touch with their inner self.

DÉCOR
THE NOTEPAD The three creative brains behind TDR Studio, Ayesha Gul, Adeel Irfan and Mahnoor Irfan, give us the lowdown on the raging box trends this season. Take note as they take giveaway presents to a whole new level Floral box At TDR Studio we love working with floral designs, therefore we launched the trendy floral boxes, and they’ve been a rage ever since! These boxes come in matte gold, textured gold, rose gold or white base, with a choice of ribbon colours. The best part about them is the flower corsage attached to the box, which is made of imported artificial flowers and a customised text tag.
Gota embellished box We recently launched these boxes, which are a wonderful fusion of our local culture. They include gota colours and designs, but have a Pinterest-esque twist to them.
Silk bow ribbon box The evergreen silk bows have always been the epitome of elegance, and we have merged this classic design into our boxes, which come in different tones, including ochre, mustard, maroon and timeless pastel shades. The bows come in a variety of shapes and sizes according to the customer’s requirement.
Monogram box These are simple matte, textured or plain boxes with a unique tag or label running through it. Rather than the contemporary hanging tag, we have added run overs with the initials or names of the bride and groom, or in some cases the birthday girl or boy. They’ve been a hit so far, showing us that people appreciate something unique yet safe.
Kraft box with patterned top This patterned box is one of our favourites! All you have to do is select a pattern for the box tops! The designs range from traditional Spanish to Turkish to Moroccan to even local truck art.
Tiffany-themed wedding box These boxes are inspired by Breakfast at Tiffany’s, so you can imagine the amount of class and sass they portray. They are wonderfully balanced between simple and classy, and have been a favourite amongst a lot of foreign as well as local clients. JANUARY 1-7 2017
