Unforgettable looks of the week!

THE CUT

FASHION

Adnan Siddiqi Adnan Siddiqi looks very dapper in a sharp black suit! He wears it with a white shirt, shiny black shoes and a pink skinny tie - with his trendy side parted hair and his usual stubble finishing off his look. So suave!

Sajal Aly Sajal makes a strong statement as she opts for an all-black power suit from Republic Women’s Wear. She goes for super sleek style with her hair pulled back in a ponytail – All in all this is a great feminine and fun look to rock!

JULY 16-22 2017

28

Saboor Aly Saboor goes for a rockchick look and we love it! She wears a cropped black graphic shirt and pairs it with tapered pants and suede mules. It’s the perfect balance between retro and sophisticated. With this look she’s rock ‘n roll ready!

29

JULY 16-22 2017

Bilal Ashraf Bilal Ashraf knows how to keep it cool and he does so perfectly in this grey blazer and black tee. He adds to his cool vibe with these suede shoes and fluorescent laces. Fussfree and ready for a night out!

Sonya Hussain Sonya’s asymmetrical monochrome top has caught our attention for all the right reasons. She pairs the top with camel coloured bootleg pants and nude shoes and that corset belt accentuates her waist, making it the focal point of her ensemble. With minimal accessories and make-up, Sonya’s look ticks all our boxes.

INTERVIEW

After appearing as Pakistan’s first superhero stars on screen, the two actors talk about their love for superheroes, what drew them to the script and how their characters are so relatable to them in real life JULY 16-22 2017

32

What made you say yes to the script of Project Ghazi? Syra: The script itself and the fact that my role had more to offer than just looking pretty. Usually, women are not given substantial roles in such movies but Zara’s character stood out for me because there’s a relevant place for her in the plot. Apart from the character, I know I always wanted to do a superhero movie, so when Sheheryar told me about it I was super excited to be a part of it! Sheheryar: For me it was all about the narration of the story. The way Ali and Nadir, the producer and director of the movie, narrated it to me, instantly made me say yes to it. I could see how passionate they were about this movie and I immediately got on board. Which superhero do you relate to the most? Syra: I love Wonder Woman and Black Widow! Sheheryar: Jason Bond!

One thing your fans don’t know about you? Syra: That I’m afraid of heights! Sheheryar: That I can’t sleep without an eye-mask on! What challenges you? Syra: As a person, to find a way to do something good every day that also makes me go out of my comfort zone. As an actor, I try to challenge myself by picking roles that are different from the ones that I have done before. Sheheryar: As an individual, how to improve myself in every sphere of life. As an actor again it’s the same drive to improve with every project I take up. Your future plans?! Syra: Nothing for now! Sheheryar: I’m going to go the gym…haha! But on a serious note, I have a couple of projects in the pipeline and I’m definitely looking forward to them.

Which personality traits do you share with your respective characters? Syra: Zara is completely different from me as a person but you need to relate to your character somewhere to make it look believable. I could relate to her because she’s independent, brave and ambitious – I would say on my very serious days, I feel like I’m Zara! (Haha!) Sheheryar: Apart from patriotism and nationalism, there’s nothing in Zain that I could relate to. Any memorable incidents from when you were shooting for the film? Syra: The first scene from the movie where me and Sheheryar really improvised and what came out of it was completely different from what we had planned. Apart from that, the shot where I had to run and constantly had to be reminded to slow down because I always used to run past the camera in the car. Sheheryar: My character in the movie, Zain has a lot of emotional baggage and like most men he suppresses that side of him. One scene is particularly memorable for me where Syra and I talk about my past – as an actor it was quite an achievement for me to be able to swing back and forth from emotional Zain to superhero Zain! How did you get in shape for your roles? Syra: I was already training before but my regime wasn’t as intense as Sheheryar’s. It was also not as hard for me because I was already in that routine and was following a strict diet plan. Sheheryar: The training process was very rigorous as I started training 3-4 months before filming. My training regime included lots of martial arts and I also had to undergo training for the stunts in the movie.

BOOKS

THE NOTEPAD The fabulous fitness enthusiast and owner of Gymtonic in Lahore, Tanya Elahi, jots down six books she refers to for all her health and fitness needs. Find out how to get the perfect form to do your squats and how to get the most out of your workout Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers This is one book that everyone should read! It is a highly readable (and very funny) exploration of how stress affects human health. Not only is it very informative about stress but it also delves into the details of how stress affects the body from fetus to old age.

Deskbound: Standing Up to a Sitting World Have you heard the catch phrase, sitting is the new smoking? With our work lives so hectic, and majority of us sitting behind a desk all day, Deskbound provides creative solutions for reducing the amount of time you spend perched on your backside. The book also lists strategies for transforming your desk into a dynamic, active workstation that can improve your life.

The Squat Bible This is the ultimate book for improving your form and fixing your squat! Not only did it enhance my performance while squatting, but it gives readers knowledge of what it means to truly squat.

Every Day Is Game Day Whether you’re a beginner in the fitness game, or wanting to get to the next level, this book is the perfect guide. It has tonnes of information and key concepts for those high performers that want to get to the next level or those who desire to become high performers.

Wired to Eat If you’re fascinated by all things nutrition, digestion, and health, you will love the detailed but simple descriptions of important topics like hyperpalatability of foods, overfeeding, hormones, digestion and gut health, and genetics. If you’re looking for a guide to help you lose weight, Robb’s 30-day reset with his seven-day carb tolerance plan gets about as individualised as you can get without seeing a practitioner.

Bet the Farm: How Food Stopped Being Food Anyone wishing to not see future food riots and masses of people going hungry - or who simply do not wish to pay exorbitant amounts for their own food - should read Bet the Farm. In the future, people will either point to it as a book which made people take action, or a book whose messages were tragically not heeded. JULY 16-22 2017
