THE CUT
FASHION
Ayesha Omar Ayesha gets the glam quotient right with this fully embellished, floor-length gown by Faraz Manan. She carries the ensemble perfectly with a matching clutch and subtle earrings, adding more elegance to the look. She keeps her make-up and hair minimal with peachy cheeks, glossy lips and loose curls.
Nadia Ellahi Nadia keeps it fresh with an ontrend kaftan in a subtle shade of green, that makes her stand out! The pattern of the kaftan gives a lot of depth to her look and she adds further charm to her look by keeping her hair, make-up and accessories simple. How would you describe your body type? I would describe my body type as petite. Has your body type changed over the last 5 years? Yesss it has majorly changed over the last five years. How has your style changed over the years? I was never too experimental with my style. I always like to keep it simple and classy, but with time understood what suits me more. In your opinion what is your most troublesome area? My lower body... How do you dress your body according to your body type? I can’t really pull off anything which is too baggy or loose, so for me it always has to be something slightly fitted and nothing too revealing. Which silhouettes suit your body the most? I don’t really like experimenting with different cuts so something that is simple and not figurehugging. Straight cuts are what I usually go for. In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here? Over dressing and blindly following the trends not even knowing if it suits them or not. What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why? Anything that brings my lower body in focus is a big no no for me.

THE VAULT WITH AMNA MNA BABER
The own wner of the trendiest footwear in K-town K-t wn, Amna Baber speaks to us aboutt her abo h love for shoes and her brand, Coc ocoon How and when did you become interested in shoes? I always had an obsession for shoes, kept on buying but had no place for them – I felt like local options were quite boring for my taste and it certainly was n not what was trending internationally. I felt there was a very limited selection of fashionable shoes which didn’t burn through the wallet. Plus I knew so many girls in the same predicament; I just knew I had to give it a try! Share a story with us about how you designed one of your favourite pair? Haha... this is an interesting one! Denim fabric and tassels were all the rage and I just had to create ate something with it. The denim tasselled slidess as you see them now, flashed before my eyes bef before bedtime b dtime and it all came together — I knew exactly ly what to explain to my craftsmen. Howe wha However, the he next da day it slipped my mind. My mo mother and nd I work together to et er on designs — so sh she happen pened to comm mmunicate municate the exact same d design and an colour combination to me and the craftsme men. Is there anyth thing on your radar that you want to make in the futur ure? Cocoon on has mostly played in the casual but chic range ge of shoes; so now, I am really excited to create a formal mal range as well, using different textures and shap hapes — th think bling embellishments!
Is there any design that you ou are em emotionally attached to and why? The Tiffany slides in blush pink – for f each ach pair we make, my mom and I select mater aterial and nd colour personally. So the kind of look we wanted nted to achieve for this specific design had us searching sea ng high and low in the markets for the precise colour co in patent leather. INTERVIEW
What attracted you to the script of Mehrunisa V Lub U? The producer of the movie, Yasir Nawaz called me out of nowhere one day and asked me if I wanted to do the movie, but I wasn’t sure at that point. After a few days, his wife Nida Yasir called me and persuaded me to say yes to the movie and character. I heard the script and thought the content is very strong and since it’s a rom-com, I found it very entertaining as well. In what way, if any, are you similar to your character in the movie? My personality is the complete opposite of Mehrunisa’s but it’s still very close to my heart since she’s so lovable, simple and considerate as a person. What can audiences expect from the much-awaited movie? It’s all about what they say… entertainment, entertainment, entertainment! People will enjoy this movie because it has everything from dance and action to romance and drama.
By Amna Khan
Known for her pretty face and simple demeanour on the small screen, Sana Javed is finally taking the next big step of her career. We talk about her character Mehrunisa, from her upcoming debut movie Mehrunisa V Lub You u and what audiences can expect from this rom-com!

Tell us something interesting or memorable that happened during the shooting of the film? The scenes we shot in the snow up north are very memorable for me. I remember it being -8 degrees celsius and I was given saris to wear in the snow, which was both tough and memorable. I also fell once in the snow and the crew made a BTS video out of it! A fun fact or an interesting thing about you that no one knows That I’m a tomboy! Do you have any upcoming projects in the near future? Hopefully another movie venture! If you could play any character in any movie, which one would it be? Deepika Padukone’s character in the movie Cocktail.

IT RUNS IN THE
FAMILY WITH ALEENA MASOOD AND ROMISA RAFFAY Aleena Masood, a fashion designer, and her sister Romisa Raffay, take a trip down memory lane. From bunking school, to hiding from their parents, to sneaking out for 4am drives, these sisters share it all
What is your first memory of each other? Romisa: I remember being very little and to keep me company Aleena used to lie down beside me with her favourite fruit juice in my spare baby bottle. Aleena: I can vaguely recall Romisa in a red and white cotton dress, holding her favourite Jamaican doll. She always had one pet toy that would literally live with her. What is the craziest thing you have done together? Romisa: Bunked school and slept under the dining table so our parents wouldn’t find out. Aleena: Sneaked out for a drive at 4am. What did you get punished for the most as a child? Romisa: For playing rowdy games and getting injured every time. Aleena: I was mostly a good child; can’t recall any childhood punishments. I was punished more often in my teens. If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the others closet, what would it be? Romisa: I can never decide on one outfit from her closet. I have many favourites! Aleena: I don’t think I can ever pick any “one” thing from her closet although our wardrobes are almost identical. If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would do? Romisa: Spend time with my nieces (her daughters) day and night. Aleena: Weigh myself! JUNE 25-JULY 1 2017
52
What is the one thing you love about your sister? Romisa: She exudes positive vibes! Every time I feel low, she comes and makes everything brighter for me. Aleena: Everything, inside out. If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up? Romisa: Cry and then hug. Aleena: Cry it out and then it feels like nothing ever happened. What is the one secret talent your sister has, that you wish you had too? Romisa: She’s super artistic! Her paintings and drawings are extraordinary. Aleena: I would say babysitting and her dedication towards kids. Describe your sister in three words: Romisa: Audacious, spontaneous and unstoppable. Aleena: Supersensitive, devoted and guileless. Which fictional character is your sister most like? Romisa: Has to be Sleeping Beauty! Although she doesn’t get to do that much nowadays but she can sleep for 14 hours at a stretch. Aleena: Mr. Grumpy from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. How are your personalities similar? Romisa: We’re poles apart, yet we get along so well that we have no idea about what’s happening around when we’re together. Aleena: Our personalities aren’t similar in any way, but we still feel like we’re one. I can’t live without my sister because… Romisa: She’s the joy of our lives! Aleena: She’s my world, can’t explain why…

One Piece, Three Ways WITH GOLD BY REAMA MALIK

THE CORNER WITH IMRANA AHMED
Imrana Ahmed invites us into her picturesque home and shares her favourite corner – her poolside and courtyard area By Maha Rizvi
U
pon entering Imrana Ahmed’s majestic home, the first thing we notice is the grand garden, full of exotic flowers. We quickly make our way inside the house and are warmly greeted by our host of the day, who takes us straight to her favourite corner – a stunning pool area complete with a beautiful courtyard. At first glance, the inner courtyard pool area is the epitome of serenity, with an array of colourful flowers along with a large, tranquil pool. The courtyard is decorated with our host’s favourite flowers including jasmines from Thailand and the Bird of Paradise. Our host shares that she has designed the house in such a way that this area is visible from every room in the house. “I envisioned this space to be for relaxation, laughter and a cultivator of good memories. I’m a nature lover and enjoy the fact that we can relish in the beauty of greenery, water and birds at the same time. I love that this space spontaneously brings people, significant collectables and nature all together. Since this view is accessible from most angles of the house, whenever anyone is spotted in the courtyard, others gravitate

towards them,” she explains. We examine the area more closely. The entrance has an exquisitely carved antique door from a haveli from interior Sindh. Consisting of floral patterns, it gives the space an old-world charm. “This door is hundreds of years old. I personally visited the haveli from where we bought this and chaperoned it the entire way home,” says Ahmed while we observe. Cane furniture is spread all around the pool area. The comfortable material helps in giving the space a casual, outdoorsy feel. Several other fascinating pieces are placed around the corner such as a miniature boat made of teak wood which Ahmed tells us was a gift from a close family friend. “It took him six months to personally carve the boat and it is very precious to us,” she smiles. We then spot a cane lamp, which Ahmed hand carried from Barcelona. The lamp is woven in the shape of a bird’s nest and perfectly complements the natural vibe of the area. Two portraits of Ahmed and her husband hang in the space, which were personally sketched by the famous artist, Iqbal Mehdi. Ahmed shares that though this space sometimes lends itself for work-related projects, for instance Ahmed’s daughter Fatima uses this space often for photo shoots for her fashion brand FAE, they spend a lot of time here together as a family. They love to lounge around in the evenings, catch up over some tea and enjoy the outdoor breeze. “It has always been my children and their friends’ favourite spot too. From having spontaneous pool parties in the midst of winter to barbeque nights, taboo nights and even dance sessions. I love having my children’s friends over and serve them all sorts of things to eat – I’m a typical mother in that sense. This space has also become the go-to area for my two-year-old granddaughter. She loves hanging around here, dipping in the pool and playing with the pigeons she has befriended,” she laughs. After pausing for a moment, our gracious host concludes: “This corner has truly cultivated some fond memories and I really cherish it for that!”

Five Beauty Secrets Having started her career at the age of 14, Humaima Malik has been part of the entertainment industry for over a decade. Not only is she known to be the life of the party but she also knows how to win hearts over. Here she shares her beauty secrets that keep her looking so good
TRAVEL ESSENTIALS “My back pack, comfortable boot cuts jeans, PJ’s and loose trousers are a must for a comfortable journey. Sun glasses are my obsession so they are with me wherever I go. A portable charger, a comfortable yet stylish pair of sneakers, and a good book or playlist are also essential.”
FRAGRANCE Miroir Des Voluptes by Thierry Mugler, Armani SI and Emilio Pucci are some of my favourites.

Hair “I avoid styling my hair with heated tools as much as possible e; in fact, I don’t style my hair at all. Limit your time in the sun and eat the right food (a diet rich h in iron, zinc and protein). Keep your hair clean and nourish you ur ur scalp with essential oils, such ass coconut, avocado, almond, castterr and olive oil. I use L’Oréal Paris Ever Strong Reconstruct Shampo oo which is great for dry hair”.
Skincare “I am gifted with good skin so I keep it simple and use Lancôme Creme Radiance Clarifying Cleanser as I believe a good cleanser can take away all the impurities. Because we shoot in harsh weather, I swear by sun screen. My favourite is Neutrogena Pure & Free Liquid Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50. My skin also tends to get dry so I moisturise with Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream which suits my skin and keeps it supple and hydrated”.
Tips & Tricks “The best tip I can give is to workout! I exercise daily, even if it’s for 15 minutes a day, I never skip it. I have three cups of green or black tea a day — it helps prevent skin cancer and the breakdown of collagen, the main cause of wrinkles. I drink more water and skip soft drinks — sodium in soft drinks makes my eyes puffy so I absolutely avoid that. Cut on the sweet stuff”.

FOOD
THE NOTEPAD The gifted pastry chef behind the non-profi fit bakery, From The Kitchen Of Fatemah Rawji, jots down the six baking essentials that she always keeps handy. Learn the secrets behind her delicious recipes and get a sneak peek on what is next for her! Belgian chocolate Chocolate is the most important ingredient and it has to be the absolute best quality! I only use Belgian chocolate, sometimes when I’m running out of it I start panicking. But I’ve been so lucky to have the support of my family. Whenever someone travels they supply me with lots of chocolate. I like to use a particular type of chocolate, and that’s very important for me and my recipes.
Butter Butter is a prime ingredient for so many bakery items. But again, I’m very particular about the quality. Essentially, anything that I wouldn’t use in my own home, I wouldn’t put in anyone else’s meal either. My food is mostly expensive for that reason, as I never compromise on quality. Now since people have started recognising the difference in taste, I think they understand it more.
Cheese I bring a lot of my ingredients, including my cheeses from abroad. I love Mascarpone and Philadelphia cheese and I cannot do without those either. I believe the right cheese is also an essential for cooking.

Cream Cream is an extremely important ingredient. The texture adds so much to a dessert and it is a prime ingredient in so many things – I can’t do without it. Even for cream, it is absolutely essential that it is top quality! I don’t use any local or bakery creams.
Cake decorations Anytime or anywhere I see something cute I pick it up! Even my friends and family, they’re always bringing me back the prettiest décor from abroad. I try my best with décor, though I don’t consider myself an artist. I haven’t taken any courses, I’m completely self-taught and YouTube helps a lot too. I’ve also learnt a lot from sharing recipes with my sister-in-law and sister. In fact it was my father’s biggest dream for us to write recipe books with the correct recipes. He always told us never to have an ingredient missing. He was so into it, whenever we would eat out, we would come home and recreate a dish. Now, I’ve finally decided to write a cookbook!
Vanilla essence My vanilla essence comes all the way from Africa and I cannot do without that. The right vanilla essence has to be there in all my recipes. I feel that there is a distinct flavour to the vanilla essence that is available locally and it just drives me nuts!

BEAUTY
The Beauty Edit Just in time for Eid, Élan partnered with L’Oréal Paris to introduce Eid make-up looks. Makeup expert Saima Rashid Bargfrede curated three looks, based on the latest make-up trends from Paris Fashion Week 2017
Blush Boom This look works with the trend of ‘draping’, which was huge on fashion runways for Spring/ Summer 2017. Draping is a form of contouring using different shades of blush to follow the natural bone structure. For this look, we used the Infallible Blush Paint Palette in 02 Amber, which has five different blush tones from matte to pearly, to create a high intensity blush finish.
Dewy Fresh Nothing looks better than healthy skin, and in the summer season, skin should be allowed to breathe and look radiant– with little help from make-up. To create the look, prep the skin with a healthy dose of moisturiser, followed by the Infallible Total Cover Foundation. This was followed by the Total Cover Concealer Palette, to combat the effect of any dullness, redness and blemishes on the skin. The Infallible Sculpt Palette was used to delicately contour and highlight the face, layered with pearly shades from the Blush Paint Palette on the high points of the cheeks, temples and bridge of the nose to create the perfect ‘ look.

Colour Me Summer There’s no Eid and no summer without colour. This look used high intensity iridescent shades from the Colour Riche La Palette Nude – Rose. The lower lash line was smudged in for evening Eid glamour and a Colour Riche Collection Exclusive Pure Red lipstick was used in Blake.
