THE CUT
FASHION
Amna Babar Amna carrys the knee-high slits in her satin, blue jumpsuit with grace. The cinched-in waist complements her petite figure perfectly.
Feeha Jamshed Feeha looks uber-cool in a high-low white shirt with cropped jeans and lace-up oxfords! We love how the tie around her waist gives this otherwise androgynous look a feminine flare.

THE VAULT WITH MIARA SHAIKH AND SAADIA SIDDIK
The co-founders of Miaasa, the hottest new shoe brand in town, unlock their vault. Browse through their trendy collection and learn how these two talented ladies fell in love with footwear in the first place
How/when did you get interested in footwear? We always thought that there was a lack of options in the footwear market. It was hard to find shoes, which were good value for money in terms of comfort and quality. It was also challenging to find versatile styles that would fit the Eastern and Western panache. Our love for shoes inspired us to create a range, which look as good as they feel, while being affordable. What are your favourite shoes in your collection? We love our espadrilles — they are a true labour of love. Also the velvet crossovers are an excellent example of Miaasa’s philosophy for style and comfort. Is there any shoe you are emotionally attached to and why? Miara: Each shoe has a special place in my heart but I’m especially partial towards the ‘Liquid Gold’ and ‘Cinderelli’ flats. They are both so versatile and are the perfect accessory for any outfit. Saadia: Due to my love for glitter, my favourite pairs are the tassel flats and the glitter espadrilles. Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favourite shoes: Miara: I ended a friendship over a pair of shoes — that’s all I’m going to say! Saadia: I came across this quaint shoe boutique while I was in Paris. It had a long line outside, every time I passed by. I spent three consecutive days going and standing in the line for an hour each day, but I would always get fed up and walk away. On my last day, I dedicated two hours to get inside, only to come

across a gorgeous pair that were a size too small for me. I bought them anyway, and curse myself every time I wear it. I truly have a love-hate relationship with those shoes. Is there anything on your radar that you want to get in the future? We are about to launch our e-store and we just had an exhibition. We are also working on launching our range of heels and wedges, and hope to open a retail outlet sometime in the future.

How would you describe your body type? I would say I have an hourglass figure. Has your body type changed over the last five years? I used to be quite lean and thin naturally, but for the last few years it’s become hard to maintain my weight. How has your style changed over the years? My style has definitely become more laidback. It has also quite literally become a reflection of my personality. In your opinion what is your most troublesome area? My thighs! How do you dress your body according to your body type? I like monochromatic colours and simple cuts as they complement my body and easily

hide my problem areas. In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here? Here people focus more on incorporating labels in their outfits, and don’t think about what looks good or fits with their personality. Style isn’t original or personal anymore. Also, I don’t like cluttered looks. I always notice someone whose style and ensemble is well put together. Which silhouettes suit your body the most? I prefer flared cuts to fitted silhouettes. What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why? I usually avoid vibrant colours and exaggerated garments. I am a minimalist!

WITH TASBIH QAZI AND AREEBA QAZI Tasbih Qazi, co-founder and creative head at Esfir Jewels and Areeba Qazi, active member of Patients’ Aid Foundation, talk sisterhood. From sneaking out at midnight in Puerto Rico to licking the door of a bakery in New York City, these two take us through their adventurous journey! What is your first memory of each other? Tasbih: Areeba licking the door of a bakery in New York City (because it was all foggy) and dislocating her arm when she was pulled free. She was probably only three at the time. Areeba: We were making patterns on the carpet with juice, with the straws in the carton. Don’t ask what happened when our mother caught us! What is the craziest thing you have done together? Tasbih: Snuck off in Puerto Rico to take a midnight kayaking tour amidst the mangroves. This was against our parent’s wishes of course — we were only teenagers back then! Areeba would not let us get crazier than that. Areeba: In middle school, I let her friends stay over till 7am when our parents weren’t in town. It was a big deal back then. What did you get punished for the most as a child? Tasbih: For arguing with Areeba and for not turning the lights off before leaving any room. I still get yelled at for this! Areeba: Fighting with each other and hitting Tasbih. MARCH 12-18 2017

If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the others closet, what would it be? Tasbih: Her tan leather jacket and literally nothing else! We have really different styles. Areeba: Her black jumpsuit and her Lululemon’s. If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would do? Tasbih: Buy a new wardrobe. Areeba: Organise her room. What is the one thing you love about your sister? Tasbih: She is there for me at any hour if I need her to be, even though her help is always followed by a mini-tantrum and vowing to never help me again! Areeba: She’s always willing to do things for others. Eventually she ends up asking for help (usually from me) but she always tries. If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up? Tasbih: We don’t really speak about it or anything, we just sort of move on. Areeba: We just get over it and act like it never happened. What is the one secret talent your sister has,

that you wish you had too? Tasbih: She is an excellent choreographer (which is not really a secret), and can conduct dance practice flawlessly. She also has an uncanny ability to complete any task assigned to her. Areeba: Being able to style outfits. She can look at any piece of clothing in a store and know exactly what to do with it. Describe your sister in three words: Tasbih: Efficient, focused and loyal. Areeba: Caring, emotional and generous. Which fictional character is your sister most like? Tasbih: Dr Christina Yang from Grey’s Anatomy — she’s strong and relentless. Areeba: Debbie from The Wild Thornberrys. How are your personalities similar? Tasbih: Let’s just say we agree to disagree. Areeba: They are not! We are polar opposites. I can’t live without my sister because… Tasbih: She provides order in my life. Areeba: She gives me free jewellery! She also helps me with my make-up and clothes. It’s like having a perpetual stylist.

AE’s ‘Evelyn’ top is the perfect goto whether it’s day or night. It’s cottonsilk fabric and lace embellished neckline drapes softly. The adjustable bow wraps around the waistline further defining the look. ‘Evelyn’ can be styled in so many different ways depending on your mood, occasion and style!
WITH FAE
While trends fade, style remains eternal and one piece can be put together in many diff iff fferent ways. In this feature we have three fashionistas showing us how to put together an item from a designers collection, according to their own individual style and taste!
Sanya Pervez Hussain Junior Product Manager, Essie/L’Oréal Pakistan
My style is casual-chic. I like to keep things minimal but add one statement piece. I decided to style this beautiful FAE top with a monochrome pencil skirt from Zara for an elegant look. For my accessories, I opted for beautiful black and gold Prerto earrings along with a blue box-clutch from BCBG. For my hair and make-up, I went for a voluminous blow-dry with black winged eyeliner and my favourite lip colour, ‘Lolita’ by Kat Von D. I would wear this outfit to a nice dinner or even a formal day brunch.

Generally, my style is pretty casual and minimal. I like dressing up, but I like clean cuts and prefer to let the accessories do the talking. For this look I chose to keep it very daytime-chic, hence a pair of jeans and heels were perfect. I kept my hair straight and did light make-up with a bright lip colour. I wore strappy Charles and Keith shoes, super-fun Prerto earrings that added some colour to the outfit, and carried a wooden Zsiska clutch.
Ayesha Jatoi Subeditor, Paperazzi
When it comes to fashion, I’m definitely a chameleon. I love experimenting with various styles instead of always sticking to one! I chose a classy-chic look for this top by pairing it with white silk pants. For my hair I had loose curls tied up in a messy, man-bun with minimal make-up. The classic Bottega Veneta clutch and patent black Christian Louboutin heels maintained the elegance of the ensemble. I paired my outfit with chunky earrings by Rosantica and a simple white bracelet.

WITH AMINA RE EHM MAN AND MARIUM ATIF The ladies of The Lofft invi viite te us into their favourite e space, a contemporarry — minimalistic home o offi ffice e By Minahil Qasim
O
n a pleasant winter morning we make our way to meet Amina Rehman and Marium Atif, the creative brains behind The Loft, a recently launched interior design house. As we enter Marium Atif’s contemporary house designed by architect Raza Ali Khan, we are warmly greeted by our hosts who usher us towards their ffi ce. favourite space — their home offi “As you mature as a person there are no favourite spots, they kind of change over time. At this time in our lives, this room really complements where we are professionally and personally. This came into being as we needed a professional space in the house because we
have little kids and we can’t really leave them alone all the time,” Rehman explains. “We wanted a space that gave us inspiration and is multifunctional in its use, as it’s also used to entertain guests. Furthermore, we only cater to clients whose style matches our aesthetics, hence we prefer our clients meeting us in this space, as not only can they see our furniture pieces up close and examine the quality and the finish, but they also get an idea of how their area would look with all the pieces put together. This makes them more inclined to work with us,” Atif elaborates while handing us a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. This is a well-lit glamorous space, mostly in black-and-white with splashes of colour added by
decorative elements such as the lamps and paintings. A sophisticated, highgloss, black work desk and chair by The Loft resides in one corner of the room. Quirky, brass bookends by The Loft and a magnificent, white globe add a grand aura to the workspace. A beautiful handwoven carpet by The Weavers, in hues of purple, turquoise and grey sits proudly on the solid, wood floor. in the room. A wooden, mirrored side table by The Loft is placed in front of the TV unit. Due to the mirrors and white couches, the space has a soothing effect, despite the fact that a lot of black has been used. “All the furniture has been made by us, and that’s why it’s so close to our hearts. Every piece has been collected and designed over time. When we make our furniture, comfort comes first for us, and then style. We are all about making pieces that are durable and practical, hence we use materials that can easily be cleaned and do not need much maintenance. We are very big on supporting local businesses and feel very strongly about it, so most of the materials we use are found locally,” our hosts explain when we inquire about their design philosophy. “I adore this minimalistic cocktail table made out of brass and marble. I’m a caffeine addict and when I’m having my coffee I want to put it comfortably near me. This table serves that purpose as it fits just about everywhere,” Rehman states while Atif looks around and adds: “My favourite piece however would have to be the brass bookends, as they fit in well with the whole culture of the study. Also the bevelled mirror, as it adds beauty to the room and makes it look more spacious.” “As we are cousins, prior to our business launch, we were always helping each other out with furniture and coming up with fresh ideas on how to design our houses. However, once we designed this space and were so appreciated, we decided to take the plunge and turn it into a full-time venture. This very space laid the foundation of our business,” the cousins nostalgically recall. As we bid farewell, we leave the space feeling inspired and impressed by the immense talent of our hosts and their design philosophy, one which skilfully uses local materials and supports local craftsmanship.
