Fashion Week

Moodboard With FPW SS’19 upon us, we have you sorted with all the things you need for a smooth sailing fashion week experience

Protein Bars: Fashion week can get long and exhausting; protein bars will help keep your hunger pangs at bay and energy levels up. Water Bottle: It is vital to stay hydrated throughout the night in order to stay fresh. Avene Thermal Spray: Long hours can result in dull and dehydrated skin. Spritz some thermal spray for a fresh and hydrated look! Fashion Week Pass: Keep your pass with you at all times especially to enter the venue. Compact Mirror: Slip a compact mirror in your bag to make sure you’re shining throughout the night. Portable Charger: With all the snapchatting and Instagramming going on throughout the night, your battery will run out of juice! Be sure to carry your portable charger with you, so you don’t run out of battery at a crucial time. Camera: A camera is probably the most important, and irreplaceable, thing you can bring to Fashion Week. The photos you take are going to be worth a thousand words when you come home and to keep memories! Gum: You’ll be doing a lot of talking and socialising on the red carpet so it’s always best to have fresh breath while you do so. Bright Lip Colour: Keeping your lipstick handy is vital for fashion week. In case of an accidental smudge or just to top up in between breaks, pop it in your bag and freshen up as the night proceeds. Comfy Shoes: You’ll be running around on the red carpet so don’t let your feet hate you and keep an extra pair of comfortable shoes or opt for comfortable yet stylish shoes. Face Powder: It will get hot and your skin can get oily so it always helps to keep a face powder in your bag. It will not only help make your make-up last longer but it also prevents your make-up to melt. Notebook and Pen: Fashion journos, take note! Hand sanitizer: Keep yourself germs free and clean throughout the day! Wallet: Make sure to keep some cash and don’t forget your business cards! Fashion week is a great way to network. Wrist Wat Watch: You’ll constantly be on your phone using Instagram and Snapchat, ma make sure you’re wearing a wrist watch to keep a track of time! Shazam Shazam: Let’s face it; you’ll hear some really cool remixes at fashion week. So keep your SShazam app ready and update your music list as fashion week goes on! Mini Pe Perfume: Long night means your perfume can wear off, make sure to carry a hhandy perfume with you in order to smell good throughout the night! Lip Balm Balm: Keep a lip balm with you at all times to make sure your lips look supple and hydrated!

LIFE STYLE

With

Amna Hina

Having studied textile design from Beacon House National University, Amna and Hina have always been passionate about fashion and trends. Realising their strongly rooted interest in Vogue, the duo decided to launch their own fashion label to best express their creativity and ingenuity through their designs. Hina Imam shares with us the design process of her brand, her personal style, and the lady she would love to see in her designs

MARCH 10-16 2019

How did you two come together to embark on the journey of creating Amna and Hina? Growing up in a desi family comes with countless rounds to Liberty and Button Corner before weddings. Kora, dabka, differentiating between shimoz and raw silk, pearls or sequins, these are some of the hardest decisions we’ve had to make during the course of our lives. Once people started appreciating our aesthetic and coming to us for advice, we decided to move forward, and turn our passion into a brand. Where do you see Amna and Hina in the next five years? Being something new in such a competitive industry, we’re hoping to make a make a name for ourselves. Fashion shows, celebrity styling and targetting the international market are some of the things on our list! How would you describe your personal style? Chic, colourful and versatile. What have been the weirdest and wildest sources of inspiration for your brand and design direction? Having immense love for paintings, nature and architecture, most of our inspiration comes from there. There have been many late night calls due to epiphanies, but my favourite one has to be when Amna and I couldn’t agree on a colour scheme and we had a disagreement. The next morning, while working out I saw my trainer’s tracks and knew that this was the colour that fit! I spent the next 30 minutes taking his pictures. I doubt he’s forgiven me for that! What is the typical design process like for team Amna and Hina? Graduating with a degree in textiles, for me having an eye for detail is everything.

MARCH 10-16 2019

We work day and night to come up with the perfect illustration, followed by the details and the silhouette. Colour schemes and fabric are the most difficult for me to decide on, but once it’s done, the vision comes to reality. If you could pick anyone from history, (living or deceased, from fiction or reality), who would you most love to see wearing your designs? Lady Diana, she’ll always be the most graceful woman for me to have laid eyes on. In your opinion what are the pros and cons of running a business with family? Having a sister as your business partner comes with ups and downs for some, but I’ve been lucky for the most part. Amna and I are usually on the same wavelength, although she can be a bit stubborn at times. The easiest thing about running a family business is the unapologetic criticism we can make towards each other without holding back. The hardest part about working with a sibling is that since you both have inherited similar genes, both are equally headstrong, making it harder to reach common ground! What are some of your favourite silhouettes and why? Saris all the way! I’d wear one everyday if I could. What are the three pieces every woman should have in her wardrobe? Well stitched pants, a plain nude or black shirt and a statement neckpiece. What helps you get in the zone when you are designing? My environment; I need to be in my happy place! Also, I’m in the best mood if my food cravings are fulfilled. How would you describe your work to someone who has never seen it? Personalised and classic with a hint of drama. What’s next for the brand? Let’s just say we’ll surprise you with every new collection! MARCH 10-16 2019

The Notepad Ayesha Mushtaq

Talented make-up artist Ayesha Mushtaq shares some of her favourite make-up and skincare products for spring/summer 2019! Better Than Sex mascara by Too Faced is a game changer. Ever since I started using it, I’ve never felt the need for false lashes. It literally plumps up my lashes and gives them a falsies effect by making them look dramatic and fluttery! Hands down one of the best mascaras out there! Nars has some amazing products, one of which is their Holy Grail concealer! It conceals all blemishes and dark circles effortlessly. I love the formulation; it blends so well and gives the right amount of coverage. One of my favourite foundations is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD. The coverage is buildable so it can be used for daily-wear or for a wedding - I don’t have to worry about switching foundations! Plus, the finish is sheer so it doesn’t end up looking cakey at all- it actually gives a pretty flawless look while keeping it natural! Gerard Cosmetics Lip Liners are one of the best lip liners I’ve come across! Their application is super smooth and creamy which I absolutely love. Besides that, they work perfectly under all lip colours as a base and give a fuller look to the lips! Added bonus is the range of shades available. Locally available, L’Oreal’s White Perfect extraordinary whip face wash is one of my favourites! The formulation has sea salt which clears out dirt, make-up and deep cleanses the skin while the bergamot extract helps brighten the skin. It always leaves my skin feeling super soft!

MARCH 10-16 2019

Got my hands on this after a long struggle but the wait was totally worth it! When you say you want a poppin’ highlight, I think the Amrezy highlighter does an ur skin tone amazing job! The shade is perfect for our her than a powdery and the finish leaves a flawless glow rather one- not to forget, the packaging is super pretty! After trying different setting powders, I fell in love with Makeup Revolution’s Luxury Banana Powder. For the price, it’s a steal! It sets the under-eyes so well without letting it crease and brightens it up with the right amount of yellow. It’s a must product for me- also, very important for all picture lovers, it gives no flash back in pictures! Baked blushes are long lasting, especially the Milani ones! I absolutely love their Rose D’Oro baked blush, the shade is perfect for every day or even for a glam look! To top it off, it has a beautiful satin finish that gives a natural glow to your cheeks! My favourite primer of all time – Smashbox photo finish! It leaves the skin super soft and makes make-up application really smooth and easy. I use it as a primer for my eye make-up as well as the base and it literally makes the lasting ten times better! I’ve recently started using Hask’s Argan Oil repairing conditioner and it has literally changed my hair! Since my hair is colourtreated, it is generally prone to being frizzy and rough - but ever since I’ve started using this conditioner, it’s gotten rid of the frizz and leaves my hair soft and silky!

TRAVEL

by Saim Ali

I always wanted to explore Budapest, especially because of its great history, rich culture and heritage. The place that I found most beautiful in the city is the Buda Castle, which is the historical castle and palace complex of the Hungarian kings. The SzĂŠchenyi Chain Bridge that spans River Danube between Buda and Pest is also something that appealed to me. I stayed at The Grand Budapest Hotel which also happens to have won a host of film industry awards. It is an Intercontinental hotel on the Danube River facing the most beautiful view of Royal Palace on the Buda mountain y side. Night life is as enjoyable as it gets, streets are extremely colourful and remain crowded till late hours in the night. I would recommend every travel junkie to visit the most scenicc city of Hungary, the capital Budapest.

Vehra Sessions by Zeb Bangash Zeb Bangash has initiated a new project called Vehra Sessions, which is touted to be a collection of Punjabi originals and renditions. “I felt like it was time for me to also put out a project of my own and I’ve always secretly wanted to sing in Punjabi” she said. “Madame Noor Jahan’s classic film songs have inspired me since childhood. But I’ve been shy of singing in Punjabi because I don’t speak it and needed to be sure that pronunciation was correct” Bangash added. The singer also shared that working with accomplished musicians belonging to Lahore’s historical musical families has helped her learn a lot about the historical and cultural context of Punjabi music.

Sonu Nigam happens to be one of them. Nigam stated that he will never be in favour of war and that the media should stop making mountains out of molehills. “There is no end to this. When we’ve just delivered the first ball, you can’t go and celebrate victory. Let them respond first. This is very stupid of Indians. We act childish,” he said.
