How would you describe your body type?

I would describe my body as skinny to naturally thin.

Has your body type changed over the last five years?

Yes, my body did change after my second daughter even though I still fit into the same jean size. But your body shape definitely changes after children.

However, I strongly believe you can get back to your old shape if you eat right and have an active lifestyle.

How has your style changed over the years?

I always used to stick to classics when it comes to style but lately I have started trying different colours and cuts and I am kind of enjoying it. But I would rather go for solid colours than prints any day.

In your opinion what is your most troublesome area?

In my opinion, my most troublesome area has to be my arms. I strongly feel I have more flesh there even after working out.

How do you dress your body according to your body type?

I think the key is to know your proportions. If I am wearing a fitted top I would not mind a puffy short skirt, shorts or high-waisted pants. Otherwise, I would go with straight cuts; I simply love it.

In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here?

The biggest mistake people make is that most of the time they don’t see their body shape and just go with what is trending, which in my opinion is wrong.

Which silhouettes suit your body the most?

I think nice fitted dresses, long or short, would complement my body type.

What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why?

I think I have been quite experimental and tried quite a few kind of cuts and styles so I don’t think there is any that I shy away from.

What’s your first memory of each other?

Shumailah: Amara was the cutest, heaviest baby in the house. I remember when anyone visited us; we siblings always asked them “Would you like to see a cute baby?”.

Amara: I don’t remember the first one but my personal favourite has to be when we would go on vacation she would do this mini photo shoot. The props would include cars, statues, umbrellas anything and everything at all.

What is the craziest thing you have done together?

Shumailah: I was obsessed with fringes as a child. One day a friend was over and wanted her waist length hair to be short like Amara’s.

To get a straight line I cut the fringe an extra inch and a half. We couldn’t send her back home looking like that.

Amara: That probably has to be the one. When she had to go home after Shumailah said to me “don’t tell mom she wouldn’t notice” I told her mom can see the front of her face! Maybe we can ask her to put a sun cap on.

If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up?

Shumailah: We don’t fight, and if we have a difference of opinion we are patient with each other and talk it out.

Amara: I rarely remember a time that we have actually fought. If we don’t agree on something we let each other be and after couple of minutes we’d be in sync and back to normal.

What is the one secret talent your sibling has, that you wish you did too?

Shumailah: She is an amazing cook.

Amara: Story telling for sure!

What did you get punished for the most as a child?

Shumailah: We have our fair share of regrettable decisions but our parents never punished us. Bribe and positive reinforcement is the word.

Amara: We never really had discipline issues.

We were quite a bunch but pretty tamed.

Describe your sibling in three words: Shumailah: Reliable, loving and trendy.

Amara: Witty, upbeat and empathetic.

If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the others closet, what would it be?

Shumailah: Probably her grey exotic skin pumps.

Amara: Her athleisure collection. It looks so comfortable!

How are your personalities similar?

Shumailah: Our taste is quite similar but our interests are very different.

Amara: We have similar taste in almost everything: interiors, cars, clothes, accessories food etc. While shopping we always pick the same pieces but that doesn’t stop us from going shopping together.

If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would do?

Shumailah: I would definitely want to make healthier lifestyle choices and snack the healthy way. I would sleep enough and pick some form of exercise.

Amara: Shumailah is super warm and welcoming and can strike a conversation with anyone really. I’d definitely keep myself in check when talking to strangers.

What is the one thing you love about your sibling?

Shumailah: She loves celebrating just about everything big, small, significant and silly.

There is a cake for every ‘Enjoy the moment’ occasion.

Amara: Her humour! She can make the best of the worst situations with her humour. We all would be laughing like a couple of crazy people.

Which fictional character is your sibling most like?

Shumailah: Birthday Bear from Care Bears.

Amara: Rachel from Friends.

I can’t live without my brother/sister because…

Shumailah: Amara means the world to me. We have shared and experienced so many things in life that it’s impossible for me think of anything without her being right by my side.

Amara: Shumaila is my best friend my favourite travel companion and my partner in crime for everything. Honestly I’d be damn bored if I had to live without her.

THE CORNER WITH SADAF ARSHAD

The ever-so-charming Sadaf Arshad of Bellagio by Sadaf welcomes us into Karachi’s newest boutique salon and gives us a tour of the luxurious space. She delves into her passion for the industry which she’s been in for over 30 years and how she established her venture in Pakistan

L

ocated on a busy street in the bustling city of Karachi is Bellagio by Sadaf, the latest addition to Karachi’s growing spa and salon culture. We’re welcomed by Sadaf as we walk through the elaborate entrance.

We enter a serene reception area where our attention is drawn to a grand chandelier and a set of printed chairs. Before heading into the salon, Sadaf gives us a brief introduction about herself and how the salon came into being.

“I wanted the salon to be like a second home, a place that could give clients a warm welcome. I’ve drawn inspiration from the salons and streets of London,” she says.

“I also wanted there to be an exclusive reception area, separate from the salon itself,” Sadaf adds.

As we make our way through to the salon we feel a sense of tranquility. Interesting pieces of art hang from the crisp white walls and quirky pieces of furniture are

placed around the space. While the salon follows the same theme all the way through, each space is separated as per Arshad’s requirements, ensuring that each service has an allocated space. “The concept is the same throughout the salon, but each space is different,” Arshad explains as she ushers us towards the pedicure area.

The area exudes a sense of calm and we’re tempted to sit right down and get our nails done.

Tranquil music plays in the background and quirky light installations distract us as we make our way to the basement. Marble flooring runs through the salon and chic wooden panels separate the spa rooms from the manicure stations. We ask her about the unique pieces of furniture pieces spotted around the salon, to which she tells us, “Our furniture and chairs are both local and imported.”

Each room is installed with hightech machines and equipment for the extensive services the salon offers. The earthy hues of the space enhance the sense of calm and the embroidered logo towels add to the luxurious feel of the spa. All the equipment and products are displayed to perfection and there’s nothing we love more about a salon than it being clean and hygienic.

Our next stop is the bridal room which looks every bit a bride-tobe’s dream. Sadaf has opted for a gold theme in this room, perfect for festive occasions. The room exudes a feeling of luxury and grandeur with perfectly placed make-up stations and gold accents.

Sadaf’s workspace comprises charming details and unique personal touches which she has incorporated throughout the salon. The state-ofthe-art spa and salon is luxurious but also gives you a homely feeling. The attention to detail and the relaxing environment make Bellagio a cut above the rest.

He went home with a trophy for Creative Maverick while Anushka Sharma won Woman of the Year and Ranveer Singh won best Entertainer of the Year.

IPPA Awards 2017 To celebrate the 70th year of Pakistan’s independence, the inaugural International Pakistan Prestige Awards (IPPA) were held in London this year. Pakistani celebrities including Armeena Khan, Ahsan Khan, Humayun Saeed, Humaima Malick, Mawra and Urwa Hocane attended the awards ceremony.
