LIFESTYLE
A lawyer by profession, Faiza Saleem stirred her boat towards standup comedy to pursue her passion. Starting off on Facebook, she quickly garnered attention and became the first female social media comedian in the country. Calling her girls into formation, Faiza spearheaded the world of improv with an all-female comedy troupe called ‘The Khawatoons’. Find out what inspires her, how she deals with hecklers and her moment of realisation OCTOBER 21-27 2018

What inspires you? People winning at life despite their struggles inspire me the most. When did you realise comedy is where you want your life to head? It actually happened during a theatre performance in 2011. How did you come up with the idea of ‘The Khawatoons’? I think it was an epiphany. I always wondered why there were no other women besides me in comedy and then I thought, ‘wait! What if I bring in a whole bunch of them myself?’ How would you want your name to be remembered? As a fire starter! Someone who brought about long lasting, positive change in Pakistan. What is it like being a woman in comedy? There are good days and there are bad days. Neither last too long. What plays a key role in keeping the audience engaged while performing? Talking to them and making fun of them. How do you deal with hecklers? I make them feel sorry they ever opened their mouths. If animals could talk which one would be the rudest and which would be the funniest? Mosquitoes would be the rudest. Penguins would be the funniest. What used to be considered trashy but is now very classy? Definitely, being a comedian. If you were arrested with no explanation, what would your friends and family think you had done? ‘She probably beat someone up… again.’ Can someone learn to be funny on stage or does it come naturally? It’s natural but you can work on your humour and really bring it out. I’ve seen that with my troupe. What are some of the biggest mistakes a comedian can make? Go against their own values to make people laugh. It happens in desperate times. What advice would you give to new comedians who are just starting out? Pursue comedy because you really want to. Don’t do it because it’s the ‘in’ thing these days.

Style101 with Khas
While summer is by no means over, having the right outfits to beat the heat is important for every woman. There are so many styles and trends that can be incorporated in your wardrobe and what better way to do it than with Khas’ Cambric Collection. We got our hands on some pieces from their latest collection and got Sara Zahid and Javeria Yasir to style each piece in their own unique way!
Red and black have always been a classic combination, and a personal his outfit favourite of mine. I paired this ck tassel with red heels and long black earrings to tie it all togetherr while al to keeping my make-up minimal add subtlety to the look.
This pastel pink and green number with delicate embroidered floral and oriental orchards is a perfect look for me. I paired it with black tassel loops and black heels to give it an elegant look overall - keeping a mean make-up look with luminous cheeks and matte lips was ideal for the entire look to come together.

I thoroughly cherished styling this loom with intricate embroidery and print. To enhance the overall look of this ensemble I paired it with exquisite gold chain earrings and bright red heels. I kept the makeup fresh and radiant to enrich the experience of poignant style.
Absolutely in love with this grey ensemble! The pink floral hints add the right amount of colour and femininity; the structured g pants with organza detailing us are a plus! I wanted the focus to be entirely on the outfit so I decided to pair it with matching grey heels and Swarovski earrings.

OCTOBER 21-27 2018
The perfect way to style this three piece teal attire is to let it be the focal point of the look. I decided to pair it with a pink lip and pearl hoop earrings to keep the look fresh, while channelling some subtle glam.

Fakhr-e-Alam to be the first Pakistani to circumnavigate the globe Actor, host and singer Fakre-e-Alam is all set to become the first Pakistani to circumnavigate the globe. Alam took off in his single engine aircraft on October 10th from home base KCLW Clearwater Airpark, Tampa Florida, USA. On an estimated 28-day-long journey, he will cross over 31 cities and 25 countries. Before embarking on his mission, the actor shared a tweet which read “My childhood dream is about to take flight in less than 12 hrs. I dedicate this to my beloved country & to the people of Pakistan. Mission Parwaaz is the flight of self-belief, on the wings of faith and the winds of hope. Pray for me as I carry Pakistan’s flag around the world.” Good luck!
Sapna Bhavnani calls out Amitabh Bachchan on his latest statement Celebrity hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani took to Twitter to attack veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan. Responding to Amitabh Bachchan’s tweet on the ‘Me Too’ movement, the Bigg Boss Season 6 contestant wrote, “This has to be the biggest lie ever. Sir, the film Pink has released and gone and your image of being an activist will soon too. Your truth will come out very soon. Hope you are biting your hands because nails will not be enough.” “Have personally heard so many stories of Bachchan’s sexual misconduct and I hope those women come out. His hypocrisy is sooooo tired,” she continued!
I conduct myself with dignity and don’t abuse my privilege: Osman Khalid Butt Wishing his co-star Amna Ilyas a happy birthday, Osman Khalid Butt wrote a heartfelt note on Instagram. He shared he is grateful to have Ilyas as his co-star for Baaji and that she served as a shrink to Butt on sets. A user commented under the post, “Please be careful because after some time she would be accusing you of harassment because #MeToo.” To this, Butt responded, “No she won’t because I conduct myself with dignity even among friends and don’t abuse my privilege. Harassment allegations are not this frivolous, nor #MeToo a movement to be taken lightly. If you don’t respect the women speaking out about the trauma they’ve endured, the least you can do is not reduce it to a reductive, inane comment.”

Ban on Indian films The Pakistan Film Producers Association (PFPA) has demanded a ban on the release of all Indian films in the country. PFPA has extended a letter to the Prime Minister, Imran Khan, requesting him to take the necessary steps and make a decision on the matter. The association believes that, for the sake of our local film industry, the government should impose the said ban. A senior member of the Pakistan Film Exhibitors Association said regarding the matter “There are various senior film producers within PFPA that no longer work and it’s funny to see them demand bans when they can’t even produce 10 films a year. They have to understand that Bollywood films have a massive viewership and this brings in a lot of revenue.”
