As a child I loved to sit next to my grandmother, who sewed on her treadle sewing machine where I assemble pieces, ribbons and nice bu:ons which I transformed into the most beau3ful dolls cloths (at least in my eyes: 0)), and from my aunt, who both crochet and knit, I learned the cra< from scratch. When I went to college back in the early eigh3es, I was infected by a spinning and fiber mad teacher who taught me EVERYTHING about wool, spinning and natural dyeing, an occupa3on that has lasted since, with a break of approx. 25 years when life demanded other priori3es, if my kids should have clothes to wear. Back in 2008, a good colleague came and asked me if I could help her to spin some dog wool, and this opened my eyes to the truly enormous progress that has been on the fiber area. The Internet has given opportuni3es to test not just fibers from sheep, but musk ox wool, bison, cashmere and yak has come within reach along with bamboo, sea shell, milk and many more. Most of the fibers used in my yarn, I get from small family farms mainly in England. The more exo3c fibers like silk, angora, cashmere, yak and mohair I get from World of Wool in England. WOW (abbrevia3on for World of Wool) is very aware of animal welfare and working environment, the places they have agreements with. I receive usually the fibers in their natural colors and then they are subsequently dyed with non-‐toxic acid colors in my kitchen. The color powder I purchase at the Danish company Granat. The colors are very light-‐ and color genuine. Also dyeing of the fibers have undergone a great change. It is now possible to dye in the most interes3ng and las3ng color in my own kitchen, just by using citric acid or vinegar, which means I have endless possibili3es when I make my yarn.

Mar 21–Apr 20 June is a solidly strong month with enough sweet aspects to keep you happy. The month starts out on June 2 with a big full moon in Sagittarius, 14 degrees, big as a pizza pie in the sky. This full moon will arrive with a glittering beam from good fortune planet Jupiter in Leo (now at close to 17 degrees), and within range of a very upbeat Uranus in Aries (now at 19 degrees). Uranus rules surprises, so there's a good chance you'll receive sweet news out of the blue at this time. You may travel far and wide, possibly spontaneously, or be arriving home after a long trip to a foreign country. Full moons bring closure, so you may now wind up an exciting creative project or be given the approval to start one, possibly involving a publishing or a broadcasting assignment.
LEO Jul 23–Aug 22 Your romantic life, or a pregnancy, baby, or child, will be joyfully on your mind as the month opens. A full moon in Sagittarius 12 degrees on June 2 will bring your attention to something regarding love or children to fullness, within four days of June 2. Overall, this is a sweet full moon, for it will receive with a nod from Jupiter, giver of gifts and luck, in your sign, dear Leo, and from Uranus, the surprise planet, orbiting in pioneering Aries. You may spontaneously travel to an exotic location on this full moon, or return home, as full moons tend to finish up activities within four days of its appearance to prepare for a new cycle.
SAGITTARIUS Nov 23–Dec 21 June is a solid month where you can make astounding progress, especially with partners. Uranus will be very active this month, all in a friendly way, so romance should sparkle, and your creativity will reach all-time highs. You will be able to travel, if you like, or wait until early August, when more opportunities, too special to pass up, will come your way.

Lately you've been thinking a lot about money. Saturn, the taskmaster planet that uses tough love to teach us lessons, has moved into your eighth house of other people's money. This house rules credit cards, student loans, taxes, mortgage payments and re-financing plans, and court and other legal cash settlements, including division of property in a divorce or child support payments. You get the idea - the eighth house is about money other than the money you are paid by salary. Generally it represents money that comes in or out in large chucks.
You are about to enter a wow of a month for career advancement, and it doesn't matter if you are a Senior Vice President in a multi-national company seeking a CEO position in a competitive firm, or a mother whose children are grown and are looking to enter the work force for the first time in years every Virgo can advance and be overjoyed with the position you land. Mercury, your ruling planet, and Uranus, the planet of surprise developments will be very active in June and form the structure of this incredibly exciting trend.
June will be month filled with surprises, as Uranus, the planet of unexpected events will be very friendly and active all month, putting a strong emphasis on making plans for a real estate deal, improving your living arrangements, or deciding on care for a family member. You won't be short of work projects, for many will fly in the window all month, and probably as a result, your financial outlook will be excellent too. Let's get started.

Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays
It is time to make an important relationship official at the full moon on June 2 in Sagittarius, 12 degrees. You may be getting engaged or married within five days of this date, or you may be about to sign papers with a proposed business partner. Full moons create a sense of urgency to finalize talks, but at this full moon, you should not rush. Mercury is your ruling planet, and is still retrograde, until June 11, and it is never wise to sign a contact with Mercury out of phase. Something will be wrong, but you won't know which clauses are troublesome until months or even years have passed.
CANCER Jun 22–Jul 22 A big full moon in Sagittarius, 12 degrees, on June 2 will start off the month. You will be working hard to finish up an assignment, and you may also consult a doctor about an ache that has been persistent or another problem that you'd like to have more information. Full moons tend to bring a floodlight of truth and final information, but with Neptune spreading fog to the situation, it may be difficult for your doctor to give you a definitive diagnosis.

This will be an active, productive month for you, and it looks like travel is on the agenda. Traveling now would be a great idea, because later you will be seeing impressive career opportunities pop up. Those will begin to happen in the last third of June through July, so it will be important to be at home base when your career will begin to pop. To keep things fun, your friends will have a role to play too, so you have plenty to look forward to this month.
SCORPIO
Jan 21–Feb 18 Jupiter is still in your marriage and committed partnership house and will remain there until August 11. You may have already become engaged or wed, but if not, you will still have time, for the cosmos is planning a wonderful celebration to wish good fortune Jupiter well as he packs his bags to move on to another sign. You will benefit in an outstanding way from the party the planets have planned for Jupiter in August. Still, single Aquarius have been feeling left out, but that will change in a big way in June. Last month, Mars, the action planet whose job it is to set your agenda and provide lots of opportunity, moved into Gemini to light your fifth house of true love on May 11.

You've had remarkable cosmic support for your career since last July 2014, and this month you will continue to receive even more sensational aspects for you to build your professional reputation and make good money. You still have Jupiter, giver of gifts and luck, in your career sector (tenth house), an amazing privilege that you will continue to have until August 11, the date Jupiter will leave to enter another part of your chart. This month, June, and August will be your best of 2015 for reaching for the stars when it comes to career, so don't let up your efforts.
Saturn has newly set up shop in your tenth house of honors, awards, and achievement on December 23, 2014, and ever since, has asked you to focus intently on your career at the exclusion of just about anything else. Now, you get a bit of rest from the pressure, for Saturn will retrograde back into Scorpio, a water sign that blends well with yours, from June 14 to September 17. In the house where Saturn is heading, the pressure will be less than what you have felt lately.

Cookie And Bird | www.Cookieandbird.etsy.com Cookieandbird was born out of a strong desire to express creativity. I am stuck in a office most days and my mind would just need to relax. Crafting and creating is how I achieve that! Eventually I was brave enough to open an Etsy store and it slowly grew! We do a lot of christenings/baptisms, party dresses and of course weddings! I still get a little misty when I think about products that I make will forever be a part of someone's special day!
Meet Meghan ADCM Design | www.ADCMDesign.etsy.com ADCM Design was born about the same time my second son was. I was home on maternity leave and wanting to be creative and stay busy. It started off as something for my door and then friends and family and then the leap of faith that strangers may actually be interested. A year and half later I am staying busier than I ever imagined. I work on my shop and orders after the little ones are in bed each night. My store name came the first initial of our two boys, my husband and myself. Each order is unique and custom made for the buyer. I love making everything custom because it means the buyer gets exactly what they are wanting! This has become a family affair with the boys "helping" me create and my husband supporting me in everything new I decide to try!

I’ve been soaping for a little over two years now. I had no intention of starting a soap company, but as i was surfing a popular search engine one day I stumbled upon “Making Soap In Your Kitchen”. I was intrigued. Could I really make soap in my kitchen? I lived on that popular search engine for days, even weeks trying to learn as much as i could. One thing led to another and i made my first batch. When I realized it actually worked, I was hooked. Not just a little hooked, but completely enamored. I loved the thought of making soap; i loved the idea that I could create something that was good for my skin; I loved the idea that I could hand-make something to give to others. My creative process took off and my soap-making skills flourished, allowing me to create unique soap bars that are works of art all on their own
Meet Ana Children Pictures Creations | www.childrenpicturescreations.com I started my shop nearly five years ago after friends and family suggested I sell my creations. I was apprehensive at first because I didn't think I was good enough. After much persuasion, I took the plunge, lol. At one point my sales were paying our bills and I couldn't be happier I had decided to open my shop. I've grown so much over the years and I believe my creativity has grown as well. I no longer sell just crocheted items, I also sell tutu dresses with crocheted tops. It's been an amazing five years and I look forward to more.

THE IMPORTANCE IN BECOMING/BEING VEGAN By Tatiana Solomon
A little over 2 years ago, while eating my last milk chocolate candy bar that I brought home from a recent trip to Europe, I decided to watch the documentary called “Vegucated” on Netflix. It focused on the 3 major reasons for veganism; health, environmental and the ethical treatment of animals. I was extremely shocked and heartbroken by the damage that humans cause on the world, our bodies and the wellbeing of animals all in the name of food, cosmetics, household products and clothing. I knew my life was forever changed. I immediately went to my fridge, packed up all my animal-product food and drove it over to my Mom’s. For me, that movie was so powerful that I became vegan ‘cold-turkey.’ It was honestly an extremely easy transition…because I wanted to do it. You can do anything you put your mind to, if you want to. Many people confuse a plant-based diet with veganism. Those are 2 different things. Veganism is a LIFESTYLE. You change the way you live your life to be as cruelty-free as possible. You
skin is more vibrant and your hair is definitely more shiny and grows faster! I had no idea that I was in danger of high cholesterol until a month before I came vegan and did some blood work, my doctor contacted me and said my cholesterol numbers were alarming. I didn’t understand why because, to me, I didn’t eat very unhealthy but I did consume a ton of dairy previously but didn’t know (as most people don’t) that you only get bad cholesterol (LDL) from animal products. The ONLY foods that will clog your arteries are meat, dairy, eggs, etc. Once I cut those out of my life, I redid my blood work and my cholesterol went down from 253 to 118 in just 6 months! I knew instantly that I was making the absolute best decision for myself and I couldn’t have been any happier. My digestion was also so much better and I never felt sick after I ate. With stores like Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Sprouts and Target carrying faux meat & cheese, it is making the crossover to a plant-based diet easier than ever! The brands that I swear by are Gardein, Tofurky, Beyond Meat, & Tofutti just to name a few. All the foods are so tasty and incredibly flavorful. You just have to go in with an open-mind and give it a try.
become more conscious and aware of the products you buy. look and feel once you eat the food that our body was designed to consume. Because you consume much more vitamins and minerals, your
You’ll be happy you did! Many people have told me that the information I’ve given them has made them more compassionate and concerned with animal rights, environmental issues, and healthier eating

and that makes me extremely happy because I choose not to force my views on anyone or judge them for the way they live their lives. I choose to educate people with knowledge and examples and hope that they will see for themselves. The meat and dairy industry have made it so hard for people to know the truth but now that our everyday lives are so involved with social media, it has made it so easy to share videos and spread light on so many unfortunate situations that have been kept in the dark. I encourage everyone to try a plant-based diet just for 21 days and feel the difference in your body. Celebrities such as Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Andre 3000, Jennifer Lopez, Ellen DeGeneres and Bill Clinton have tried it and realized that it is the absolute best decision for their bodies and they’re saving many lives at the same time. It’s possible and it’s a beautiful thing. I’m a much happier person knowing that I don’t contribute to the torture of innocent, sentient beings and I will continue to use my voice to help people do the same.

Nursery Edition Shopping Tips A First and foremost, you want to think about what you want the tone and/or theme you want for the room. Once you pick them, it then gets easier when it comes to picking the furniture and decor out. Basic tips: 1. Turn that plain wall into something elegant helps to bring the room out. 2. Furniture with history brings more charm to the room. 3. Colors do not have to match but the tones of the colors must collide well.

For this nursery, we went with a very chic and elegant look. The triangle wall paper starts the room with a unique and elegant feel. Pairing white nursery furniture will make the room feel bright. For the bedding, we loved this chic black and white stripped sheets paired with this flower fabric for the bumper and blanket. We found this cute pink, gold, and white star mobile to go over the crib. For the rocking chair, we took the simplest rocking chair and added some pillows. For the wall, we found a set of three pink flowers with polka dot background and this custom from for the babies name. Also, hanging ribbon with clips to hang letters like shown above (or your maternity photos) is super cute. A. Black Triangle Wall Decal www.TrendyPeasDecals.etsy.com F. Tell us a little about yourself.
If you would have told me at 20, that I would be running a busy Etsy shop at 31, I would have never believed you. My life was business, and working for an international company. I always knew I would be involved with marketing a brand, I just never knew it would be my own!Marketing and social media are my passions, and I am so lucky that I have the opportunity to promote something that I love making. I have a wonderfully supportive spouse that doesn't bat an eye when my fabric has taken over our house as I prepare orders, two lovely children that keep my on my toes, and an exceptional extended family and tribe of friends to keep me sane and yell at me when I stay up too late. Reading is my passion, and I am obsessed with the Outlander series right now (well, have been for about a decade). I spend a ridiculous amount of time with my sister and we are always dreaming up new things to create. Volunteering is my passion, and I love being involved with my community. I am on the community education board for Janesville Waldorf Pemberton school district and currently am the Volunteer Coordinator for the Mankato Area Derby Girls Roller Derby team. If you can't find me, the best place to start looking is my favorite local coffee house, the Coffee Hag. I spend way too much time there but I'm a complete addict.

2 Have you always loved creating things? or did it start off as a hobby and grew into something you now love? I actually was the least creative one in my family for the longest time! My mother and twin sister are insanely creative, and I was always the more pragmatic, corporate one. When I was a child, I did sewing projects in 4-H, but I stopped when I was a teenager. When I picked up sewing again, it was with a single minded determination to have a shop and an audience. Now I can't imagine my life without sewing.

What made you choose Etsy?
Etsy was a long time coming for me. I was SO intimidated by Etsy and kept my business Facebook page-based for over a year. After a year, I realized that I needed to do something to make the ordering process easier for my customers. Having them message me what they wanted and then invoicing just was taking too long and wasn't streamlined. I also wanted better bookkeeping and order management on my end - as well as more traffic! I chose Etsy because my sister who has a shop (Whindy Crafts) showed me how easy Etsy is and how many people are seeing your items. I was blown away that people in foreign countries are viewing my products and buying them! People know Etsy, they trust Etsy, and it works the best for me.
My shop started within the various Facebook groups I was a member of, because friends would ask for products, and I created a Facebook page so I could show pictures of what I was offering. That was how Finch Designs all began - it is Clever Finch Designs on Etsy because someone was smart and snatched up Finch Designs! I was inspired to open an online shop because people were asking for one, and I wanted to keep my personal Facebook page a separate entity - no likes a spammy friend, haha. Having an online shop has allowed me to expand my offering and connect with customers all over the globe.

5 What was your first item you made? and what inspired you to make it? The first item I made was a breastfeeding infinity scarf. I was inspired to make it because a friend wanted one and the construction was basic enough for me to try as a novice/returning sewist. Everything took off from there! As a former breastfeeding mother, I was inspired to make the scarf for the women who wanted a bit more coverage, or privacy. Plus, it's a great accessory! You aren't wearing a tent, and you look fabulous while wearing it. No one "needs" a cover, but it works for many, especially distracted babies. I knew the product was something that people wanted, so I studied my target market to see what else people where looking for in the baby category. Initially, I just made the scarves for friends and gifts, but things changed in November of 2013. My son suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury while at daycare, and I knew that I needed to find something to generate income to stay home with my children.

Have you ever felt discouraged
when it came to your business? The only time I have ever felt discouraged is when I make a sewing blunder and have to rip everything apart and start over. Or I find a gorgeous fabric, and can't get enough to satisfy demand. My business celebrates babies and happiness, so it is really hard to be discouraged! There have been times when I compare myself to larger shops, but I remind myself that comparing myself won't get me anywhere and that I need to focus on my shop, and my goals. 21 | Etsians.com | June 2015
What kind of things did you do to get your name out there? 7
In the beginning, I posted in online groups and word of mouth was (and still is) my best friend. My Facebook page helped a lot and still drives traďŹƒc to my Etsy shop. My sister and I teamed up and did craft shows and we currently donate often to local causes and events. If you community knows you, their friends know you. Now, it's all about Instagram (@finchdesigns). It is free, so many people are on it and it gets me views and sales daily. I cannot say enough about Instagram and how it has helped my business. Finding a cause you are passionate about and connecting with your audience on social media is key. Customers want someone genuine and real, and if you can find your niche, it makes your business all the more fulfilling. Tweaking your SEO goes without saying - let search engines and Etsy do the work for you. No one will end up on your page if they can't find your product!

WHEN DID YOU START TO SEE YOUR SHOP TAKE OFF? AND HOW DID IT MAKE YOU FEEL? My shop has had a pretty steady following since the beginning, but I will say that opening my Etsy shop made it boom. I strategically timed my Etsy shop opening with Black Friday and the holiday season, so I am sure my customers were so happy to have a streamlined ordering process that they just threw themselves at the shop. I promoted the opening heavily on my Facebook and Instagram page, so people were well aware my items were for sale and they pounced. It made me feel like a million bucks! I totally had a Sally Field moment of "they like me"! I also had my shop noticed by several brick and mortar stores that then contacted me about wholesale orders, so that brought my products to a whole new audience. My first shop was Salvage Sisters in Mankato, and it is always flattering to have customers comment online that they saw my things in a brick and mortar store and then came to my Etsy shop to send something to a friend. June 2015 | Etsian.com | 22

HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO JUGGLE YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE AND RUN A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS? WHAT KIND OF ADVICE WOULD YOU SUGGEST TO OTHER FELLOW SHOP OWNERS WHO MAY HAVE A HARD TIME FIGURING IT OUT?
This is something I still struggled with. As a person with a type A personality, I try to do it all and that's not the smartest way to get anything done. Defining clear work hours helps a lot, because I thrive on structure. Recently, I extended production times because I could feel myself getting overwhelmed with the amount of orders and it was taking time away from my children, and they have to come first. My advice is know your capabilities, keep an eye on order due dates and let yourself have a life. You can't do it all, and your customers know quality when they see it. Take the time to make a product well, and customers will wait, because if you rush, they will notice! Also, do not compare yourself to other shops you see posting on Instagram and social media. Those are teeny tiny, generally posed images and it isn't fair to your mental health to think that those pictures portray real life.

WHATS YOUR FAVORITE THING IN YOUR SHOP RIGHT
NOW?
Right now it is a little floral elephant that matches a very popular baby carrier. It's basically the sweetest thing ever and so preppy. The fabric has been pinned in so many nursery decor boards on Pinterest and I knew I had to get my hands on the fabric. I am a fabric hoarder so anything made of Amy Butler, Jennifer Paganelli, April Rhodes, and Michael Miller (my one true love) is coming home with me.
