Warren-Greene Golf Center

Designed by world-renowned golf architect Tom Fazio, the $2.4 million Warren-Greene Golf Center sits on 14 acres of land overlooking the ETSU campus. Named in honor of longtime ETSU men's golf coach Fred Warren and ETSU golf supporter William B. Greene, Jr., the Warren-Greene Golf Center includes six target greens, two bentgrass greens (one for putting and one for shortgame work), three tee areas, a fairway bunker and four greenside bunkers. The accompanying 3,300-square-foot, two-story building, designed by Ken Ross Architects of Johnson City, Tenn., contains coaches' offices, meeting rooms, the Hal Morrison Hall of Fame room, players' lounge, two indoor hitting bays, and an observation deck. Without a doubt, the Warren-Greene Golf Center provides ETSU players with one of the best oncampus practice facilities in college golf.

Stefanie Shelton Head Coach Seventh Season South Carolina, 2001

Success breeds success as the East Tennessee State women’s golf team continues its ascent among the elite women’s golf programs in the nation. During her previous six years at ETSU, head coach Stefanie Shelton has progressively taken the Lady Bucs to levels of success never before seen in the history of the ETSU women’s golf program. Receiving their highest-ever national ranking last year, Shelton’s squad made program history in 2007-08 by capturing its first conference championship and making the team’s first trip to NCAA postseason play. In winning the 2008 Atlantic Sun Conference team championship, the squad also captured its first-ever conference individual championship, as sophomore Laura Jansone took home that honor. The league title was ETSU’s second team championship of the year, as the squad also won the South Alabama Lady

Jaguar Invitational trophy as well. In all, Shelton’s teams have seven tournament titles in her six seasons at ETSU and finished in the Top 10 in 44 of 51 events, including 35 Top 5 showings. Indeed, the record books have been rewritten in recent years, as Shelton has helped several Lady Bucs reach personal bests both in stroke average and individual round play, plus the team has set new program records in every team category. In addition, she has coached five first-team all-conference selections, five second-team all-conference selections, and two freshman-of-the-year recipients in 2004-05 and 2006-07. In fact, for her efforts during the 2004-05 season, Shelton was named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year, and she earned the same honor in both 2006-07 and 2007-08 from the Atlantic Sun Conference. Prior to last season, the team enjoyed what was at the time its best finish ever in conference championship play both in 2005-06 and 2006-07, finishing second in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, and narrowly missing out on trips to the NCAA Championships. In addition to the continued success on the golf course, the team has excelled in the classroom, maintaining a 3.57 cumulative GPA, placing it in the top 25 in the country. Shelton came to ETSU from Texas Christian University where she was the assistant women’s golf coach during the 2001-02 season. While with the Horned Frogs, she assisted with all aspects of the team, including coaching, recruiting, practice organization and conducting the first Horned Frog golf camp. A 2001 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a double major in entrepreneurial management and marketing, Shelton was a three-year member of the women’s golf team at South Carolina where she was an Academic All-American, as well as making the SEC Scholar Athlete Honor Roll every year. Before playing at South Carolina, Shelton played for a year at

Wake Forest University, redshirting her freshman year. An exceptional student, Shelton made the dean’s list in each of her seasons at South Carolina, graduating cum laude in her majors. Shelton minored in Sports Administration. She has begun work toward a master’s degree in Sports Psychology at ETSU. Shelton was also involved with helping manage a golf school, the Hartefeld National Golf School, working with that program for four years. There she assisted PGA professionals with instruction of adults, collegians and juniors. Shelton was a member of the National Golf Coaches Association Strategic Development Committee, as well as a charter member and “Education Chair” of the Tri-Cities Executive Women’s Golf Association. She also served as a columnist for Golf Journeys magazine. In addition to her academic and athletic exploits, Shelton also has a long history of community service. At ETSU, Shelton has stressed community involvement and has directed her players to help in several “giving back” activities, such as participating in Special Olympics, Communities in Schools, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Families First, Appalachian Christian Village and Woodridge Hospital. She was also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Athletes Care Team while at Wake Forest. At South Carolina, she participated in Team Gamecock Habitat for Humanity Harvest Hope and was a big sister for a third grader in 1999. As a player, Shelton was the youngest Delaware Amateur Champion at age 16, held many titles as a junior golfer traveling throughout the nation, and set two course records. She was a co-captain her senior year at South Carolina and was ranked second in the nation in “short game.” She competed in Regional Championships every year and competed with her team for a National Championship title three times. Shelton and her husband David reside in Fall Branch, Tenn.

ETSU women look to build on 2007-08 championship season The 2007-08 season was the most successful and memorable in ETSU women’s golf history. The Buccaneers – under the guidance of 2007-08 Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year Stefanie Shelton – captured the program’s first-ever conference title and competed for the first time in the NCAA Championships. ETSU is coming off a 2007-08 season that saw the team garner its highest-ever national ranking, rising to No. 42 and capturing two team championships with overall victories in the South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational and the Atlantic Sun Conference championships. In all, since coming to ETSU in 2002-03, Shelton has led the Bucs to seven tournament team titles, which includes a first place showing in the Sea Trail Intercollegiate back in September of this season. Led by a bevy of talented and experienced players, Shelton’s squad has potential low scores throughout the lineup. However, no player in the program’s existence has experienced so much success as quickly as junior Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia). In her two seasons at ETSU, Jansone has made history, becoming the first woman to win an individual championship in golf during the 2006-07 season, and then rewriting the record books once more by posting a school record for single round score with a 67 in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Conference championships and then going on to earn medalist

honors in that event – which was the first conference individual title for an ETSU player ever. Having led the team in stroke average (76.2) a year ago, the first-team All A-Sun selection struggled at times in the fall semester of this year and finished third on the team with a 76.7 stroke average, but that didn’t stop her from picking up the third individual title of her career with a first place showing in the Sea Trail Intercollegiate. Along with Jansone, the Bucs also return senior Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales), along with juniors Kennie Leigh Eisenhower (Newport) and Sinead O’Sullivan (Galway, Ireland). Meanwhile, joining the ranks are freshmen Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain), Malin Mansson (Kalmar, Sweden) and Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria). Gould comes into the season having been a three-year contributor to the team and having posted five Top 10 finishes a year ago, including a tie for fifth in the A-Sun championships. She was a secondteam All A-Sun pick as a sophomore and currently ranks fourth on the team in stroke average. Meanwhile, O’ Sullivan broke through in a big way last season,

joining Jansone as the only other woman to ever capture an individual championship. She did so by winning the South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational, where she posted a personal best with a 69 in the final round. In the fall, she was one of two ETSU players to finish with a team-best stroke average of 76.5. Fellow junior Eisenhower played in all four events for the Bucs in the fall and showed improvement in her game, finishing fifth on the team in stroke average and posting her best finish with a tie for 35th at the UNCG-Starmount Classic. As for the newcomers, Vizcarrondo made an immediate impact in the fall, finishing tied with O’Sullivan at 76.5 for the team’s best stroke average. She posted two Top 5 finishes and enjoyed a seasonbest third place showing in the Palmetto Intercollegiate. Mansson finished tied for 36th at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate to help the team to that victory. In the meantime, Muehl was a transfer pickup over the semester break and will play in her first events for ETSU this spring. The Bucs will once again face an ever-more-challenging schedule again in the spring of 2009. The team will play in seven events this spring, including the always critical Atlantic Sun Conference Championships which are set to begin April 13.
