How popular is our backyard?
Good morning from Eumundi Range Rd (Photo: Marie Robins) While Eumundi and surrounds have long been cherished by locals for their natural beauty, the Sunshine Coast overall is becoming an increasingly popular place to live and work. Sunshine Coast Council (SCC) building approvals reached a record level of $1.9 billion last financial year and its online Development.i platform was accessed more than 360,000 times – an increase of 41% on 2020. With 18,500 development applications for renovations lodged and around 2,500 new lots of land for sale there is plenty of property market buzz, according to Development.i platform reports over the past 12 months.
“These reports empower our community by providing information on local development matters online and from home,” said SCC Service Delivery Portfolio spokesperson, Cr Christian Dickson. “We’re seeing 6,900 reports a week at an overall increase of 57% compared to last financial year.” The Development.i platform provides access to past and current development application details and basic property information for the Sunshine Coast Local Government area. While work is steadily continuing on the new Maroochydore CBD, other areas also experiencing rapid growth include Buderim, Bokarina, Palmview and Caloundra South.

CafeSmart
Humdrum Espresso signed up with Streetsmart to participate in their CafeSmart program along with other like-minded hospitality venues to tackle the issue of homelessness in our local community. On 6 August Humdrum donated $1 from every coffee sold to CafeSmart – despite being in the thick of a lockdown. The local support was great, raising almost $200. The best part of CafeSmart is that the proceeds go directly to local grassroots organisations tackling the issue of homelessness. Previous grant recipients in our area include: Youturn Youth Support in Tewantin, Sunny Kids in Nambour and Sunny Street in Buderim.

EDCA’s AGM
Eumundi District Community Association Inc (EDCA) will hold its AGM on Monday 13 September at 7pm at the Old Scout Hall at 38 Memorial Dr. Visitors welcome. This year EDCA supported the Eumundi State School with the Chaplaincy program, and donations towards Year 6 graduation and Christmas hampers for five families. The Eumundi Rural Fire Brigade received a replacement unit for their automatic gate and Christmas hampers were given to our three local fire brigades. EDCA donated $10,000 towards the Sunshine Sounds’ weekend and $5,000 to the School of Rock and donated to the two Carols Nights. EDCA also ran a free outdoor movie on Australia Day for local families. Sporting donations went to the Eumundi Swimming Club and the Junior Eumundi Dragons Rugby teams. To cap the year off, EDCA kick-started the Arthur Leis Memorial Fund at the Jimna Fire Tower.
National Wattle Day – 1 Sept
Wattle is our national floral emblem, with the green and gold designed as a unifying symbol for Australians. Wattle has resilience and great diversity with more than a thousand Acacia species. Wattle Day was first celebrated in 1910 in NSW, Victoria and SA. The day became significant for selling wattle sprigs and badges to raise money for troops overseas and later for wounded soldiers. The flower itself (acacia pycnantha) was officially gazetted as Australia’s national floral emblem in 1988. The kangaroo and emu have the golden wattle for company on the Commonwealth Coat of Arms where it frames the shield.

From the UK to Eumundi in Covid times Dr Tara Page is an artist, researcher, teacher and Academic Director at Goldsmiths, University of London. How can something so simple, so straightforward, change almost overnight? All over the world and in the places we call home we are having similar experiences: lockdowns, hotel quarantines, social distancing, working from home, and generally juggling life and work. Having lived in the UK since 2004 and for the first 12 months of Covid, I’ve now been in Australia for the last six months. I understand how our globalised, social and material worlds are very different – but they are also very similar. In London there is less space and so many more people, so we were restricted to where and how we could travel. We were all at home, working with very strict rules on who you could be with and the distance you must be apart. Our faces were always covered by masks. I was even sanitising my mail and groceries! While it all felt disconnecting, at the same time I was more connected than ever to the place behind my front door that I rarely left. I was learning to bake a sourdough loaf, trying out a banana bread recipe, doing a bit of DIY, and squeezing in a home office area that looked ‘professional’ for Zoom meetings – all of which gave me a sense of comfort. Arriving in Australia, my childhood home, hotel quarantine was as easy as the lockdown in the UK. The very surprising and not-so-easy part was post-quarantine and being ejected into a world

with a lot of people, few restrictions, family and friends who hugged and welcomed me, and blue, sunny skies. I was ‘free’, I was home, but I felt overwhelmed and anxious. With far too many people, far too close to me, this ‘normal’ was going to take time to get used to. However ‘cliché’ it sounds, we are on this Covid journey together. We are trying our best to protect ourselves, our homes and each other and in doing so, we are learning about ourselves, each other and what is important. ‘Home’ is no longer just a backdrop or site where interesting stuff happens, nor should it be just about geographic, colour-coded Covid maps and charts. Home is about living, identifying, teaching and learning. Embrace it! Visit: tarapage.org.

Celebrant Bernadette Munro was able to perform the service earlier at 1.30pm, Samia from Oh Honey Florals finished arranging bouquets and a magnificent floral display very quickly, and photographer Lee from Life and Love Photography was on-site to capture the special event. It was all hands on deck and by 4pm the celebration ended. With the lockdown allowing only 10 people at a wedding, the bridal party were able to whisk themselves away and have their post-wedding photos at 4pm.

Wedding tops lockdown In May 2019 a much loved-up young couple – Morgan and Levi – visited a wedding expo where they met Nicky Thomas, The Imperial Hotel’s Function & Events Manager and formed a strong bond after booking their ceremony and cocktail reception at the hotel. “Both of us were so in love with the different rooms and spaces, we were confident that we had made the best choice possible for our wedding ceremony and cocktail reception,” recalled Morgan. When their special day, Saturday 31 July finally arrived, excitement levels were very high but soon turned to dismay.
“With Nicky and Paul’s quick thinking we were still able to have what was the most amazing ceremony and reception, even if it was somewhat shorter than initially planned. We can’t even begin to explain how grateful we are for the incredible service, hospitality and friendship shown to us by the Imperial despite the circumstances,” said Morgan. Morgan and Levi
“Around 10am we learnt that our 3pm ceremony and reception would be caught up in a Covid snap lockdown beginning at 4pm. To say we were devastated was an understatement,” Morgan said.

Meet Mr Bamboo Durnford Dart is a published authority on bamboo cultivation and use with his Bamboo Handbook. He is a foundation and honorary life member of the Bamboo Society of Australia. A childhood spent on the family farm at Ourimbah triggered a lifetime ambition for young Durnford (Durn) to be a farmer on his own land. This dream took years to come to fruition, including a six-year stint in the RAAF and 25 years as the owner-manager of one of Sydney’s biggest car recycling businesses. When the dream did eventuate, it saw the establishment of a whole exciting new agricultural industry in Australia – commercial bamboo growing. Bamboo has always had a special place in Durn’s heart. “When I was a boy and my dad was away in the Navy, I walked through Melbourne Botanic Gardens, missing him, and somehow the whispering of the bamboo was comforting. Years later, during a lunch break while working in a Japanese car wrecking yard, I stepped out of the demolition yard cacophony into the incredible peace, stillness and serenity of a nearby bamboo grove. This made me decide to grow bamboo.” Pausing and grinning, “It was the right decision”.

Oldhamii drive Bamboo Australia, founded by Durn in 1989, is now recognised as a rural industry leader and Durn is a consultant and participant in major international projects. His 100 acres of former dairy land at Belli Park responded to the soilenhancing properties of the 250 species of bamboo planted which were selectively sourced from established growers around the world. Durn’s choices include optimal edible bamboo species, which serendipitously triggered another unique industry, Big Heart Bamboo. This is a unique emerging produce business specialising in bamboo relishes, toppings and teas. The multi-award winning Big Heart Bamboo is the brainchild of Durn’s youngest daughter, Becky. She graduated from UQ and has developed an appreciation of the food values in bamboo that fits perfectly with her and Durn’s environmental understanding of the essential role bamboo can play in the world’s sustainable future. “I had the property, the enthusiasm, experience and support. The research was the most demanding part – establishing the product potential as a viable commercial product for a primary producer and coming to a deeper understanding of the global impact of this giant grass. Thinking about the challenges to our global environment was when we realised bamboo’s potential as a possible saviour as it is used to mitigate disasters, sequester carbon and produce food and fibre.”

How To Sell When You Have Nowhere to Go A question I’ve been asked frequently over the past few weeks is “We want to sell but don’t want to be stuck and have nowhere to go” This sounds a real dilemma, but it doesn’t have to be. Sellers want to take the equity out of their home while the market is strong, but are fearful of not finding elsewhere to purchase. We have done three contracts where the Sellers have rented back the home after settlement, paying a rent, and giving two weeks notice when they find somewhere, with no penalty. This puts the Sellers in a strong position to purchase elsewhere as they have the money in the bank, enabling them to purchase at auction, or by private treaty, for a period of 6 months or longer. Leaving it later, whilst it may seem appealing, could financially disadvantage them if the market increases in value: it’s better to buy and sell in the same market. If this is something you’re considering, we’d love to be able to help you explore your options.

Councillor Div 10 - Cr David Law Cash boost for Eumundi Placemaking In welcome news for local residents, Memorial Dr Eumundi will receive a major cash injection including $500,000 towards streetscape improvements thanks to the Qld Government’s $100 million SE Qld Community Stimulus Program. This now brings the total project funds to $1.77M, including SCC’s $1.27M capital works contribution. This announcement is particularly exciting as SCC representatives have been working with the community, local businesses and organisations to find out their values and vision for the main street.
community design workshop with the Eumundi community to gain further feedback and ideas for the streetscape design for Memorial Dr. This was in addition to engagement they undertook at the end of 2020. The team has also undertaken a town centre business online survey to gain input into ideas for parking and outdoor dining. All input and feedback will go towards development of the draft streetscape design. A draft concept design will be presented to the community later this year and the project is on track to start construction in May 2022.
The streetscape project is about enhancing those aspects locals already love about Eumundi’s main street and the additional funds should allow us to achieve terrific streetscape outcomes for the community.

Father’s Day stories
Paying respect to ‘father of the markets’ The Original Eumundi Markets new operations manager, Karen Davis, takes time out on a busy market day to learn about ‘father Joe’ whose plaque lies at Joe’s corner at the markets. Here’s a little of the story about Joe ‘father of the markets’. Joe Wagner was born in Austria in 1923 and he and his family suffered greatly during WWII. They emigrated to Australia for a better life in 1956. Joe and wife Jenny had four sons and settled in Eumundi in the mid-1970s. Joe was involved with the Eumundi markets from their inception in 1979 . “Joe lived for the market – he cleaned, put expensive soft toilet paper in the public toilets, set up stalls, chatted and made great coffee,” recalled son Dieter. “On Saturdays he was at the market site by 1am to help set up more than 100 trestle tables. You always knew who he was. You just had to look for the bright orange overalls (long before hivis was common)! But it wasn’t just the tables, Joe was a source of much sought-after market gossip. After his ‘chores’, he would hurry back to his kitchen jobs, pushing his squeaky tea trolley up and down the boards of the QCWA hall, collecting cups and saucers, again chatting with locals and tourists.” When Joe died in 2008, the Original Eumundi Markets lost one of its much-loved characters, who was often referred to as the ‘father’ of Eumundi Markets. Markets stallholders and management organised a plaque in Joe’s honour in a garden bed near the old railway refreshment rooms. It reads: Joe’s corner, father of the markets. 16
Poem about dad
My dad watches AFL But from time to time he likes to yell He likes to work in the garden He taught me not to say what, but pardon In his spare time he likes to cook A lot of hair on his head was in the past, he now has a new look I got my kindness from my mum But my handsome looks, dad’s genes is where that came from He’s as solid as a brick wall But unfortunately he is the reason I’m small Unlike my mum and I, he does not drink tea But he’s my dad and he’s the reason I’m me. Joshua, 14, Doonan
Ian Smith ‘Smithy’ Born and raised at Monomeet outside Eumundi, I remember Dad as a hard worker, a loving family man and a loyal mate. Our time together in the paddocks and in the dairy fostered my love of the farm and taught me what could be achieved with hard work and perseverance. Regardless of how busy farm life was for Dad, he was always there for school and weekend activities as long as it fitted in between milking times – this included my wedding reception which had to be over by 3pm as the cows needed attention. ‘Poppy’ had a lot of time for his grandchildren. He had sold the dairy cows by the time the little ones arrived and he nurtured their development by allowing them to experience farm life with him. Learning to drive what he called “the little red truck”, sitting in front of him on the horse and watching him tend to his beloved Herefords were unforgettable experiences. For neighbours and friends, Smithy always had a smile, riding his horse, dogs beside him on a Sunday morning checking the cattle Cont. P18

memorial day for our family and an opportunity to share such splendid memories.
Dad, Poppy, Smithy is especially remembered on Father’s Day and other special family days. He was greatly respected by those who knew him and we, his family, know he would be proud of the path our lives have taken thanks to his quiet, unassuming guidance.

I have nothing but the happiest memories of my father, Daddy. Always proud of me, endlessly supportive and kind he was an ideal parent.
Philip and Hilde 1938 wedding
One particularly strong memory of Daddy is when he had responsibility for the Crown land leases which were vast tracts of land held for long periods of leasehold in NSW and QLD. This included oyster leases producing the delicious Sydney rock oysters on the Hawkesbury River. Even today, 60 years later, this extensive area so close to Sydney consists of isolated bays and inlets and tiny settlements accessible only by boat. Occasionally I would accompany him on these trips and we would hire a little motor boat and putt-putt happily along the great, green waterway all day. The oyster-men would ply Daddy with their oysters and I would love the sensation of the wind on my face, winding through the looming sandstone cliffs with eucalypts and huge tree ferns reflected in the slow green mirror of the river. Sadly, Daddy was killed at sea when I was only eight. Father’s Day remains an important 18
Father’s Day reminds a Doonan family of a special Dad. My Dad, Francis Douglas Ison, was born in Glebe, Sydney in March 1914. His Francis Ison father died when he was six and he was ‘shipped off’ to live with his Aunt and Uncle on their sheep and wheat farm in country NSW.
Philip Sparks, “Daddy”
The happy butt of my inane six-year-old sense of humour, he played along when I engineered ridiculous jokes.
My dad
He returned to Sydney when he was 13 and to earn money would get up at 3am, do a milk run and after school work at the cinema handing out programs until late at night. Dad enrolled in Theological College and graduated as a Baptist minister. In 1943 he married his sweetheart, Gwen, and they set off to India as missionaries, sailing at night to dodge the Japanese submarines. Dad and Mum spent the next 20 years in (now) Bangladesh, with Dad setting up a cooperative in a remote area. This consisted of different religious groups and a mixture of high and low caste Hindus, living and working together producing and selling food and other products and is still in place today. Dad would be called out to the local village every now and again to find and shoot a rogue tiger harassing the locals. Dad and Mum returned to Sydney in 1962 and he spent the next few years helping new migrants in Western Sydney buy homes, teaching at the Port Moresby Administration College, and setting up a Lifeline call centre with Radio 2CH in Sydney. Dad died just after he turned 98 and is one of the most respected and loved people I have ever known. Greg Ison
Gary and his triplet granddaughters
Ralph Brown, a proud Aussie
Ralph with his son Phil
Father/Grandfather Gary with triplets in 2018 My Grandad was a man like no other and my hero. Respect, loyalty and silence are three words I would use to describe him. He taught us triplets many things including: you need to eat slowly, listen carefully, maths is easy, have prunes with your cereal and Black Caviar is the fastest horse around. He knew the answers to everything. He never failed to amuse us by singing Ned Kelly, playing the didgeridoo or telling the story of ‘Betty the Crocodile’. Every day with him was an adventure. He came to live with us when we were born and carried both a father and a grandfather role, so Father’s Day was important to all of us. He took us swimming, fishing, camping and protected us from ‘everything’ – crocodiles, dingoes and buffalo, just to name a few. He was the clown at our parties and the campfire lighter so we were warm and fed before heading off to school.
My Dad, Ralph was born in 1929 in Sussex, England. He completed his compulsory 12 months of national service at the age of 19 in 1948 and after telling his Mum he would either like to join the army or emigrate to Australia, she quickly had the whole family registered for £10 Pom tickets to Australia, to avoid the army after the recent horrors of World War II. One of my earliest memories is that my Dad was a huge supporter of Australian sports teams. He loved Australia and considered himself Australian through and through. The recent Olympics reminded me of how he would cheer for the Aussie battler over England any day! My Dad was a proud migrant and always recognised the good fortune he had to be able to have taken the very long journey to Australia with his family. When he and Mum visited me in 2006 in New York, where we have lived for more than a decade, we toured Ellis Island in the port of New York which was the busiest immigrant arrival point in the US and welcomed more than 12 million immigrants between 1892 and 1924. After visiting the Family History Centre on Ellis Island and returning to Australia, Dad ensured he visited the Welcome Wall in Darling Harbour that lists him and his family as arrivals in 1950.

Assistance sector show that one in four people will need to work in sectors supporting Australians, with a 14.2% increase in jobs by 2025. The demand for more healthcare workers is being driven by Australia’s population growth and an ageing population. The projection is that one in four school graduates, or the equivalent in individuals re-entering the workforce, will be needed to meet the demand for valuable healthcare workers.

Pop Art at Noosa Gallery A new exhibition from pioneering British Pop Artist Peter Phillips’ private collection is showing at Noosa Regional Gallery until 5 September.
Looking for something to do during Covid? One great way to get out of the house and enjoy some fresh air is to take a walk and discover the streetart treasures of Eumundi. Artistic flair can be found in our streets, alleyways, outdoor walls, inside cafés and bars and even on refuse bins. Discover the local creativity throughout our town by downloading the Street Art Trail Map at www. experienceeumundi.com.au.
Phillips trained in London to master formal art techniques but later subverted them to showcase fresh, sexy, mass-produced, witty images lifted from American consumer culture. “The teachers at the Royal College of Art thought artists painted landscapes and portraits, and I was painting cars and pin-up girls”, said Phillips. In 1961 the Young Contemporaries exhibition catapulted Phillips, David Hockney, Brett Whitely and other classmates into the UK public eye. Later, Phillips moved to New York where he exhibited many times alongside American counterparts Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and James Rosenquist. Internationally acclaimed, his work has exhibited in countless solo shows, projects and retrospectives and is held in London’s Tate Gallery, Art Institute of Chicago, MOMA in NY and National Gallery of Australia.

Recently I had the pleasure of learning more about a local organization, PTSD Dogs, and the amazing work they are doing supporting sufferers of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The group, founded by Angie Weeks and her husband Roger have been helping former Defence Force personnel and other first responders find relief and support from PTSD with the help of fully trained dogs. These canine companions have a story of their own to share, having all been rescue dogs in need of a new home. And that is where you can possibly help. The team at PTSD Dogs are currently looking for foster families for assistance dogs for the duration of their training because at the moment, they can’t keep up with the demand for their services. Since the charity began in 2018, 13 former service personnel have received assistance dogs, and 8 rescue dogs have been rehomed. According to Angie, they can’t train the dogs quick enough, and they need help from dog lovers in the community to help them raise more dogs to get the training started. If there are any individuals or families in the local area who would love to welcome a dog into their home for the duration of their training, visit the website at https://ptsddogs.org.au/ foster. Voluntary Assisted Dying Unfortunately, due to border lockdowns and COVID restrictions, the VAD forum I had planned to host earlier this month was cancelled. My apologies to those residents who had expressed an interest in attending. There’s still time to have your say – my survey runs until the end of the month. Hard copies are available at my office, or you can complete it online at http://www.danpurdie.com.au.

Gwen Blair, in 1994. Gwen wanted to join an art group but she could not find one so she started her own and the rest is history, with TAG meeting at Tinbeerwah Hall ever since. Sadly, Gwen Blair passed away in 2013 but her legacy lives on and the group has grown from a few friends meeting on a Thursday morning to a membership of over 70 local artists. TAG committee member Jan Cooke said: “This year’s art show will be our biggest and best ever. We are indebted to our award-winning guest tutors Trevor Purvis, Naida Ginnane, Helen Lawson, Fiona Groome, Dale Leach, Pam Taylor, Pam Miller, Clare Riddington-Jones, Tricia Taylor, Anne Yang and Lizzie Connor. These great tutors have all encouraged members to try new techniques and develop their skills in different mediums.”

Members range from complete beginners to award-winning artists who paint in a variety of mediums including acrylics, watercolours, oils, pastels, charcoal and pencil, collage and mixed media. Members are encouraged to develop their own distinctive styles.

Due to Covid restrictions there will be no gala opening for the art show this year but the exhibition will be just as spectacular as in previous years. There will be paintings to suit every taste and all for sale at reasonable prices. Choir chords
Singing soon in Eumundi
Singing is good for you As the stresses of life have escalated, physical and mental health are on everyone’s mind and we’re grappling for answers. Exercise? Diet reform? Quality time alone? Tick all, but have you considered singing? The increase in lung function delivering more oxygenated blood to the brain as well as regulating heart function helps us to be more alert and stimulates our immune responses. Once you start singing it can become something of an addiction and studies have shown an increase in dopamine and oxytocin levels in people who sing. This may be partly responsible for the feeling of euphoria that singing in a chorus delivers, together with that sense of connection, accomplishment and social wellbeing. Doctors often recommend singing as a vital first step for Singing for me is pure joy and such fun. Joining in song and then harmonising with other voices is a wonderful uplifting social experience. Wendy Vono, Landscaper
It’s my therapy! Always feel good after choir and often transported by the harmonies. Fun, laughter and social interaction equals sanity in these unstable times. John Terkuile, Microherder 26
Jo Deguara Choir Director stroke victims, to re-learn the art of speech. Interested in the choir caper? Contact Jo on 0403 841 856. She has been running community choirs for more than 12 years and will launch MOVE (The Magic of Voice in Eumundi) on Tuesday 31 August at the CWA Hall. Singing is welcoming of all abilities and backgrounds. Do this one amazing thing for longevity of brain health and overall wellbeing – experience the joy of singing. Join a choir for connection and energy. Deb Campbell, Counsellor
I started singing with Jo’s choir five years ago. I hadn’t sung since high school and was worried that I’d make a fool of myself, however it was lots of fun even though I wasn’t the best singer. I love the feeling of being surrounded by sound especially when singing the African songs. We also have plenty of laughs and I always leave feeling energised and happy. Sherrie Terkuile, Teacher The benefits of singing – no matter how good or bad you think you sound – can improve lung function by helping your breathing. It can also help stimulate your thyroid and that feel-good hormone can boost your immune system. Glenda - Nature’s Good Witch, Herbalist
Photo competition in a drooping flower bud. I used my little Panasonic LUMIX TZ90 to capture this cute ‘Halloween’ scene.” Our judge says: “From a technical point of view the framing is perfectly balanced with the eye directed to the light reflection in the flower bud and fantastic background. A variety of elements combine to make this a great image. Part of that is being in the right place at the right time and taking the time to understand what’s going on in the image…trick or treat.” Congratulations to this fortnight’s winner, Babette Urban. Babette said: “I found many beautifully beaded spiderwebs early one morning after a heavy dew, however this one was special because it appeared to have its own little light shining brightly. It is actually the sun beaming through a droplet of water hanging

to a more minimalist existence by downsizing their footprint, waste and cost of living. Off-the-grid living takes us to another level of self-sufficiency and sustainability and getting started can feel a little daunting. Regardless of how glamorous those ‘Homesteader’ blogs may make this lifestyle seem, it is important to make informed decisions about the lifestyle we choose and the infrastructure and skills we need to enable that goal.
Going Off-Grid Life off-the-grid means living without public utilities and being self-sufficient for power, water and waste. While there are significant upfront costs and not-so-simple infrastructure requirements, the reward for this investment is a reduced carbon footprint and cost of living, ideally coupled with enhanced health and wellbeing. People across Australia are pursuing lifestyle changes due to Covid disruption to home and work arrangements. Liberated by unprecedented flexible working arrangements, city-based office workers are flocking to regional areas to escape the drudgery of long commutes and crowded suburbs. There is a growing interest by many to live more sustainably. For some that means a healthier lifestyle by eating organically or implementing permaculture principles. ‘Homesteading’ is a desirable option even for people who don’t yet know how to milk a goat or make sauerkraut, as they can always learn. Tiny houses are ontrend, offering gratification to those who can successfully transition their mindset and lifestyle
Personal motivations for choosing an offthe-grid lifestyle could be concern for the environment, doomsday preparations, or a desire for self-sufficiency. Whether you are curious, daydreaming or actively planning a lifestyle transition, the OffGrid Living Expo 11-12 September at Imbil Showgrounds promises to provide plenty of information and inspiration for those interested in living a more self-sufficient and sustainable lifestyle. The Expo will feature a diverse line-up of speakers and exhibitors covering off-the-grid technology through to alternative farming and food production, artisan crafts, community, healing and wildlife. Imbil is a 30 minute drive from Eumundi along the scenic country route on Kenilworth Rd and through the Mary River Valley. Camping options are available at the Expo venue. Surrounding areas include Kandanga’s heritage sites, Country Club and Farm Store, together with Kenilworth’s walks, bakeries and shops. See www.offgridexpo. com.au for details on camping options and events. Rowena Beckworth
