International Friendship Day

Did you know the original idea for a day of friendship came from Hallmark cards in the 1930’s? In 2011, 30 July was declared as the International Day of Friendship by the General Assembly of the United Nations.

To celebrate the importance of friendships, Eumundi State School students created a colourful hand rainbow. The hand rainbow activity focuses on the importance of friendships, kindness, empathy, being inclusive, and although we are all different, when we come together it creates something beautiful. The students discussed the importance of positive friendships, how to resolve conflicts, how to be a good friend and ways to be inclusive.

“We had great conversations around conflict resolution, looking at things from a different perspective – being curious about what our friends and peers are thinking, and challenging ourselves to leave the judgement behind and look at those around us with kind eyes,” said Chappy Sam.
