It focuses on errors frequently identified during audits of projects. http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/about/documents/fik_1202.pdf Eurofound Youth Guarantee: Experiences from Finland and Sweden In light of the impact of the recent negative developments in the labour market on young people, EU Member States have in recent years been actively engaged in designing and implementing policy measures targeted at young people. In the context of its 2011 work programme, Eurofound carried out an evaluation of the effectiveness of selected policy measures introduced by Member States to improve the employability of young people. This short document summarises the strengths and weaknesses of youth guarantee schemes identified in the research. Given that Scandinavian countries are pioneers of this type of policy, this paper focuses in particular on youth guarantee initiatives, which have been introduced in Finland and Sweden. http://www.eurofound.europa.eu/pubdocs/2012/42/en/1/EF1242EN.pdf Travelling in Europe 2012-13 This useful booklet will tell readers everything they should know about travelling in Europe. They hold the future of Europe in their hands. For decades, young activists have been involved in protests – from the 1968 student demonstrations to today, showing their desire to have a voice in the political process. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe responded by calling for the creation of a youth centre where young people could meet, develop ideas and solutions to the problems facing them. The Strasbourg European Youth Centre was eventually created in 1972 and celebrates its 40thanniversary this year.

Highlights Working with young people - the value of youth work in the EU The European Commission is interested in gaining new knowledge on the value of youth work in the EU and has just launched a major study "Working with young people - the value of youth work in the EU" under the Youth in Action Programme. The study aims to examine the value of different forms of youth work across the EU for young people. It will identify how youth work contributes to the EU's objectives in the youth field, focusing on the 8 fields of action under the EU youth strategy and on youth work's role in non-formal learning as addressed in 'Youth on the move'.The study will present a classification of different youth work activities around the EU and which groups of young people they target and reach. It will illustrate its findings with success stories, describing the specific contributions of youth workers, and point to supportive policies or programmes, which have led to a significant change in the prospects for young people. Finally, it will identify which are the critical factors showing where youth work and youth work policy can successfully contribute to youth work practices, policies and support programmes. The outcomes of the study should be available around September 2013. http://ec.europa.eu/youth/news/2012 0716_youthwork_en.htm Holiday season: useful tips for a worry-free summer With the holiday season already starting and millions of Europeans intending to travel within and outside the European Union, there are certain travel considerations that every European should be aware of. Whether these concern having a health insurance, resolving travel
disputes with an operator or travelling with a pet, these tips provide a useful insight into the ways in which the EU is working to help and assist EU travellers. Have a look for a worryfree summer! http://bit.ly/NlhQ6W Entrepreneurship: Consultation on future action at EU level In these difficult times of increasing unemployment, Europe needs more entrepreneurs. Whilst actually only 11% of European citizens are entrepreneurs, 45% would like to be their own boss if they could. To unlock this enormous potential for jobs and growth, the European Commission intends to launch in autumn 2012 a European Entrepreneurship Action Plan to boost entrepreneurship at all levels. To this end, the Commission has launched a public consultation with the aim to gather inputs from stakeholders and citizens on the scope of possible future actions at EU, national and regional level in promoting entrepreneurship.Public administrations and private sector organisations and individuals supporting entrepreneurs in starting up businesses particularly during the first years of life of the business, individual entrepreneurs and businesses are invited to contribute to this consultation open until 1st October 2012. http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/policie s/sme/publicconsultation/index_en.htm EC consultation on how to help victims of road accidents abroad Around 130 million Europeans have planned a holiday in another European Union country this year. Some holidaymakers will get caught up in road traffic accidents, either on the way or during their break. After they recover from the accident a new problem often arises: how can they
9
claim compensation if they are a victim of an accident in a country other than their own, where they can file their claim and what is the deadline for a compensation claim. For this reason the European Commission is inviting citizens, organisations and public authorities to give their opinion on possible measures to help the victims of road accidents abroad to claim
compensation. This action is a part of the multidimensional policy of the EU towards victims that the Commission is developing following the Communication "Strengthening victims' rights in the EU. The survey is open until 19thNovember 2012. http://tinyurl.com/c59dwqx
