Documentation Eurodesk Annual Overview 2014 The report highlights the different activities carried out by the Eurodesk network in 2014. The network has been particularly active in delivering information on European opportunities for young people while promoting youth mobility, together with information multipliers, via events, online resources and publications. http://issuu.com/eurodesk_ebl/docs/eurodesk_2014 Fact Sheet: Tackling radicalisation through education and youth policy Produced by the European Commission the fact sheet focuses on how European education and youth policy can meet the challenge of radicalisation. The European Commission has committed to: - Develop fresh activites to promote European values in education through the ET2020 framework; - Target Erasmus+ funds to support cross-national exchanges and partnerships with a focus on civic values; - Continue the expansion of exchange opportunites for young people outside of university education. http://bit.ly/1DDMiTO Eurobarometer survey - European Youth Published by the European Commission, the survey analyses young EU citizens’ participation in society, with special reference to involvement in voluntary activities and participation in political elections and cultural activities. The survey finds that participation in organisations is decreasing; participation in elections is linked to the educational level and the involvement in non-formal learning activities. The more educated and the more involved in non-formal activities young people are, the more they will take part in voting. One fourth of young Europeans took part in voluntary activities. Participation in cultural activities is decreasing, and confidence about finding a job is fairly high, although there is much less confidence in job stability. Over 13,000 young people between 15 and 30 were interviewed in the 28 Member States of the European Union as part of the Flash Eurobarometer Survey carried out in December 2014. http://bit.ly/1EwuZce Being young in Europe today New Eurostat online publication presenting recent statistics about the past, current and future situation of children and young people in the European Union, ranging from attending school and participating in sport and leisure activities, to leaving the parental home and entering the professional life. http://bit.ly/1EjowmD Young Europeans interactive tool New tool by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, primarly designed for young people aged 16-19. Highlights European Parliament positive vote on advancing 1 billion euro for the Youth Employment Initiative in 2015 The European Parliament approved the European Commission's proposal to advance 1 billion euro in 2015, in pre-financing for the Youth Employment Initiative and help Member States get up to 650,000 young people into work. The €1 billion in YEI funding, to be made available this year, will boost the EU’s contribution towards project costs from 1-1.5% to 30% in 2015. But this is not new money, as the funds had already been set aside for the YEI. The countries benefiting from the initiative are Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK. Member states will be able to launch the projects they need, but YEI operations must be implemented by the end of 2018. Progress on the ground in the early years will be crucial to the initiative’s overall success. The rule changes now need to be approved by the EU Council of Ministers, and will take effect on the day after their publication in the EU Official Journal. http://bit.ly/1Afr9Pu Five cities shortlisted for European Youth Capital 2018 Cascais (Portugal), Kecskemét (Hungary), Manchester (United Kingdom), Novi Sad (Serbia) and Perugia (Italy) have been shorlisted to proceed to the next stage of the European Youth Capital 2018 organised by the European Youth Forum. Employment has started picking up, with improvements now materialising in most sectors. The Review highlights significant positive trends, such as the continuous fall in unemployment, the increase in permanent and full-time contracts, the decline in youth unemployment and also, for the first time since the onset of the crisis, the decline in long-term unemployment. However, considerable challenges remain, with levels of unemployment still high, and significant differences across Member States. The unemployment rate of young people has been falling since 2013 in the EU as a whole and in most Member States, but remains too high (21,1%). http://ec.europa.eu/social/BlobServlet?docId=13779&langId=en
