In addition to the glasstec, there will be also a special presentation with a symposium in the exhibition hall 11. This year the show pays great attention to the themes climate protection and energy efficiency. We would like to introduce to you Mr. Christian Jetzt from Glas Trösch Ulm who is going to lecture at the symposium about the issue of “insulating glass with a triple glazed structure - a multifunctional element of future façades and windows”. Do not miss this presentation on Friday, October 24 at 11:00 am.

The development of the glass market is continuing to progress.

Due to the necessary energy modernisation of buildings, the replacement sector in the window market is still increasing. It is very important for us, as one of the market leaders in coating technology, to provide our customers with advanced glass coatings.

We make an active contribution to climate-protection with our highly developed SUNSTOP, COMBI and heat insulating glasses.

Since July 2008 we offer a new heat insulating glass - SILVERSTAR ZERO - that achieves with its double glazing an Ug value of 1.0 W/m²K and minimises heat losses noticeable.

To receive a pleasant living comfort by applying huge glass surface at the building, it requires the use of insulating glass with a triple glazed structure. We responded already to the increasing requirement of heat insulation in the future with SILVERSTAR TRIII and SILVERSTAR TRIII E. These two products improve heat insulation up to 80 % compared to insulating glass with a double glazed structure. Also a reduction of energy consumption and pollutant emissions from 45 to 55 % is obtained.

SILVERSTAR - Get on top The glass tower in Kuwait Kuwait is the city in the Middle East where an office building made of glass arose with a height of 170 metres. The name of this magnificent building is “Al Safat Tower”. The construction with 36 floors reaches to the sky and attracts all the attention in this huge city. Especially in sunny areas like the United Arab Emirates it is very necessary that excellent sun protection of the building shell with a minimum of heat levels affecting the building can be guaranteed. Karim Fortas from the division international object consulting explains: “The required product was chosen by the customer due to intensive sampling and in compliance to technical as well as aesthetic specifications.” In the greenish shimmering and brilliant glass façade of the Al Safat Tower, 8.000 m² of coated glasses with SILVERSTAR SUNSTOP T Irish 22/18 were applied. The secondary sheet is made of 5.000 m² SILVERSTAR heat insulating glass. Due to the possibility to temper SILVERSTAR sun protecting and heat insulating glasses the production sites for toughened safety glass can have in stock coated lehr end sizes. Thereby customers benefit from shorter delivery dates.

Frankfurt Airport “flies” on SILVERSTAR Frankfurt Airport, one of the largest airport hubs in Europe, inaugurated a new glass terminal section in the early spring. One of the most modern check-in areas in the world, it was built to cater to the Airbus A380 superjet and offers a whole new boarding concept. The corridor connecting piers C and D is the heart of the new terminal section. Built especially for the world’s largest passenger jet, it is also the first in the world to allow boarding on two separate levels. But it’s not just the additional capacity which is impressive. From the architectural point of view too, the hall is a gem. Around 4,200 m² of Silverstar Combi glazing and around

2,000 m² of Silverstar Swisspanel BD 76 balustrade glazing with shadow-box framing were used. By choosing these products, Fraport AG opted for top-quality, energy-efficient façade glazing from Silverstar. With light transmittance of 50 percent and solar energy transmittance of only 27 percent, this layered glazing ensures an ideal balance between natural light and low g-value.

SILVERSTAR TRIII in Europe’s largest passive energy house Triple insulation glazing has long been an indispensable feature of low-energy and passive houses. With its excellent thermal insulation rate of up to 0.5 W/m²K, Silverstar TRIII not only reduces heating costs, but also helps to create a cosy atmosphere. One cogent working example, equipped by Glas Trösch, is the passive house in Innsbruck, which according to IG Passivhaus Tirol is the largest in Europe. This multi-storey, passive house complex with 354 apartments has some 7,000 m² of windows and façade glazing featuring Silverstar TRIII, produced by the Glas Trösch subsidiary in Nördlingen, Germany. The triple insulation glazing used in this large-scale passive house project effectively lowers heating costs and makes an active contribution to environmental protection.

EUROGLAS news Laying of the Cornerstone: Euroglas IV In Poland a new EUROGLAS production site is planned - this was a rumour someone might have heard. Due to the laying of the cornerstone for EUROGLAS Polska on May 29th, the new site is not only planned, but already in realisation. The construction work for a float glass facility and a coating line started on a huge area in Ujazd, a little town not far away from Lodz.

Many guests from the range of politics and economics were invited to join the laying of the cornerstone. Everyone celebrated the

completion of the planning phase and the beginning of the construction phase. Even a priest came to bless the new company.

Therefore the new production site must be a full success with this heavenly support and we can start production of both lines in 2009.

SILVERSTAR product worlds SILVERSTAR ZERO for genuine 1.0 W/m²K thermal insulation Soaring energy prices over the past few months have once again highlighted the importance of energy-efficient façade glazing.

With its newly developed SILVERSTAR ZERO layered glazing, the

Glas Trösch Group is responding to keen demand for ultra-costeffective glazing solutions offering high thermal insulation values. With an outstanding Ug value of 1.0 W/m²K (to EN 673), Silverstar Zero argon-filled double insulation glazing guarantees even more efficient thermal insulation and offers an excellent alternative to the use of krypton gas. SILVERSTAR ZERO satisfies all the demands placed on modern, energy-efficient thermal insulation products for windows and transparent façades.

Maximum solar protection with SILVERSTAR COMBI Neutral 41/21 In September of this year, a new sun protection glass was added to the SILVERSTAR product range. The layer design SILVERSTAR COMBI Neutral 41/21 ensures comfortable indoor temperatures in both winter and summer. With its extremely low g value of 22 % to EN 410, it significantly reduces energy requirements for cooling. At the same time, its slightly bluish tint considerably enhances a building’s outward appearance. Thanks to its low radiation absorption of 48 %, this functional glass can usually be installed in untempered condition. It is suitable for a wide variety of applications, especially large-area, transparent glass roofs and façades.

SILVERSTAR TRIII E for more solar energy gains The new SILVERSTAR TRIII E permanently reduces energy costs and makes for cosy interiors thanks to a warm surface temperature. In residential buildings especially, we all too often see planners one-sidedly focusing on low U-values. Glas Trösch and EUROGLAS now offer triple insulation glazing which combines excellent thermal insulation values with high g-values, enabling additional passive solar energy gains. With insulation coating at positions 2 and 5, SILVERSTAR TRIII E attains a Ug value of 0.6 W/m²K. At the same time, thanks to the use of ultra-transparent EUROGLAS float glass it has a g-value of up to 64 percent and excellent light transmittance of up to 75 percent. This triple insulation glazing is therefore ideal for use in passive or lowenergy houses, or for improving energy efficiency in existing housing. Moreover, SILVERSTAR TRIII E offers variants with individually adaptable Ug- and g-values to suit all kinds of climates.

14th SILVERSTAR Partners Forum

MIR STEKLA - International Exhibition The exhibition MIR STEKLA opened its doors from June 9 to 12 for the 10th time. The MIR STEKLA is the biggest exhibition in Russia concerning glass and from year to year the fair becomes more and more popular. Everything started in 1999 with an exhibition space of 1.319 m². This year it is already 8.500 m². The exhibition was frequented by 9.800 visitors from Russia and adjoining countries and 396 companies from 24 countries showed their latest work in the fields of glass products, manufacturing, processing and finishing technology. At last years exhibition EUROGLAS had its own trade show. This year we approached to our customers directly and invited them to a customer event.

In a pleasant ambiance with Russian folklore and a wonderful dinner many discussions developed. Existing customer partnerships were strengthened and new customers were inspired by EUROGLAS.

The 14th Silverstar Partners Forum, which was held for the second time this year in Haldensleben, once again met with a highly positive response. Twenty-eight SILVERSTAR partners were invited to a colourful mix of presentations where they were able to share ideas in an atmosphere of cordiality. The presentations focused on the market situation and how to push sales, but also provided some fascinating insights into successful marketing under the slogan “Action, not reaction”. One guest expert was Mr. Achenbach, who delivered a presentation on directives and regulations for TRAV and TRLV, as well as on innovations in triple insulation glazing – information of concrete utility for the day-to-day work of our partners. The breaks further provided opportunities for person-to-person talks. We can look back over a successful SILVERSTAR Partners Forum and are looking forward to the next one, scheduled for next year.
