De Geest van God, die door Bethlehem en de omliggende velden waait om de wereld wakker te schudden voor de belofte van Gods Zoon, de Messias. Dit is het beeld dat componist Joseph M. Martin met dit lied wil overbrengen. De begeleiding beeldt de wind uit met snel vloeiende achtste noten in driekwartsmaat. De transparante vocalen benadrukken de levendige tekstbeelden. Relatief makkelijk in te studeren, maar onvergetelijk!

Jesus Emmanuel’ begint in alle rust, maar groeit al snel uit tot een vreugdevolle viering van de komst van Jezus. Jay Rouse schreef het triomfantelijk zwevende arrangement, dat vrij gemakkelijk is in te studeren en uit te voeren. De meeslepende melodie in 6/8 maat creëert een melodieuze stuwende energie die de het lied een boeiende energie geven.

Het refrein moduleert een grote terts en bevat vierstemmige koorstemmen die uitroepen: ‘O Bethlehem, O house of bread, in a manger lay food for the world.’ Een lied dat uistekend past op elk kerstfeest.

De pianobegeleiding, de lange vloeiende koorlijnen, de solo-cello; het is allemaal zo goed op elkaar afgestemd. Ademloos!
