letter from the editor In a time where we are flooded with stimuli of all sorts and drowned in visuals, even for professionals it is sometimes hard to cope with all the impressions. Technology continuously develops, but the work of photographers and everyone involved in the press photo circle has not become easier. Competition is tougher than ever and that makes it even more remarkable that not a single day goes by where I am not struck by imagery that stands out amongst the mass. Pictures that make me hold my breath, fascinate me, touch me, shock me, make me curious or simply make me smile. I hope you enjoy the small insight into our high quality press photo service, produced by a dedicated, talented team.

about epa epa was founded in 1985 when seven European news agencies identified a need for a more euro-centric approach to the press photography that was currently being distributed. Since its conception epa has stood by the principles of integrity, independence and responsibility, providing clients with coverage of events that have changed the course of history. In 2003 epa broadened its reach by going global and has since gone on to establish itself as one of the leading international press photo agencies. Despite this expansion, epa has held its personable nature and distinct character, never losing sight of its true values.

feed of pictures that have the power to inform, educate and entertain. epa’s images reflect a continual commitment to allocate maximum resources to creative, unique photography producing images that speak for themselves. At present the epa news photo service offers about 1,100 new images on an average day whereas the epa archive contains about three million images dating back to 1997. The photography on the pages that follow demonstrates the diversity, creativity and at times bravery of epa’s photographers and the lengths they go to in order to capture an event and moment in time that may just challenge the way people think.

With a global network of dedicated photographers covering breaking news, sport and entertainment as well as the daily production from the eleven member news agencies, epa’s news photo service delivers a comprehensive
