who we are epa european pressphoto agency has made a name as one of the world’s most important international news photo agencies. With an output of some 1300 images per day from all news categories, epa is a reliable and well-respected image source for media clients around the globe. When epa was first established in 1985, its founders were European news agencies who exchanged their daily photo content with one another in a true European spirit of cooperation. Since these early days, epa has come a long way. Starting at the end of the ‘80s, epa set up a dense network of photographers in Eastern Europe, earning reputation with the outstanding coverage of the Balkan war and the political and social changes in Eastern Europe. In 2003 epa moved from regional to global. Supported by its member agencies, epa took a huge leap forward by starting an independent international news photo service with offices and photographers around the world, providing timely, independent, unbiased news, sports and arts photography – photography with originality, taken by dedicated, mainly local photographers with invaluable cultural and political insight. When epa started its global operation on May 1, 2003 some observers did not think it would survive its first year. Too venturous and daring the action seemed. Now in its 12th year as a global agency, epa is happy to have established a strong reputation, with some of the finest and most dedicated news photographers documenting life and events in all its facets. Creativity, precision, professionalism and a passion to document the truth is what drives us all. Today, epa’s news photo service rests on two strong pillars: Firstly, epa’s own daily production from its international network of hand-picked photographers. Secondly, the strong, unrivaled production of its member agencies, each the market leader in their respective domestic markets: ANA, Greece ANP, The Netherlands ANSA, Italy APA, Austria Keystone, Switzerland

PAP, Poland EFE, Spain and Latin America dpa, Germany LUSA, Portugal MTI, Hungary

On average, about 40% of epa’s daily production comes from news, another 40% from sports, 15% from Arts, Culture, Entertainment, while the remaining 5% shared among Economy, Business, Finance, Science, and other categories. epa’s photographers bear witness to decisive moments in history as well as documenting original, unusual stories with some emotive photo essays and colorful feature packages. This booklet shows a small selection of their work.
