Our Lite range continues and its lightweight tents regularly win major awards for excellence. Two tents – the Verve 2 and X3 – join our Trail range that is now supplied in a new green. The four tent line-up in the Sierra range proves a superb, popular choice for those looking for an entry-level product that is especially suitable for youth organisations and new adventurers. Active families looking for reliability, performance and a technical heritage from a good-looking tent that sets them apart from the crowd are flocking to our Adventure and Outback ranges. Adventure features the new four-berth Chalet 4 – a hybrid dome with good

headroom and DAC® poles. Two tipis have been added to the HydroTex® Polycotton Outback range: the Kiowa sleeps up to ten people while the smaller Fairbanks houses up to four. Larger tipis all feature a stovepipe port to accommodate our new optional Volcano tent stove. Other options include inners and flooring. 2015 sees three additions to our sleeping bag collection that now comprises Trailhead, Far Away, Appalachian, Caucasus and the new Killarney. An envelope-style sleeping bag joins Far Away and the Killarney range adds a down and a synthetic option to the combined total of 13 bags now on offer across the board. A new microfibre travel sheet adds to the sleeping options. Robens sleeping mats are designed to work hand in hand with our sleeping bags to ensure high levels of insulation and comfort. We add an oversized 3.8cm mat and seat to the Air Impact range for yet more choice, and have launched Prima Core compact airbeds. These feature a PrimaLoft® fill that’s bonded to the upper inner surface of each tube for greater insulation. Our comprehensive range of accessories has evolved to include the fuel-efficient Turbo Boiler Pot and even more compact furniture. A new walking pole range, a selection of tough titanium products, plus a choice of ultra light day packs and dry bags complete the portfolio that includes new gas stove, lighting, flasks and tent spares. Meeting the needs of all types of modern camper, this is the broadest range within Robens, with a variety of different styles and shapes for one person to three. THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND EACH FABRIC TYPE WORKS IN SYNERGY WITH THE DESIGNS OF THE INDIVIDUAL TENT TO PROVIDE THE BEST POSSIBLE PERFORMANCE FOR THE TARGET OUTDOOR ENTHUSIAST.

TENT GUIDE Where relevant we quote a minimum (min) weight alongside the tent’s standard weight (max). This is for the benefit of experienced outdoor adventurers who wish to carry as little as possible. It represents the tent stripped of all guylines, carrybags, repair kit, packing tapes, extras like gear rope, and carrying only smallest number of pegs needed for pitching – normally four or six.

The HydroTex® LT coated fabric has been developed exclusively for Robens to create a durable, resilient high performer that can be relied upon in demanding conditions while reducing overall tent weight. The material is a 40 denier ripstop nylon with silicone treatment outside and PU coating with taped seams inside, giving a 3,000mm hydrostatic head. It is also fire retardant, for a safer outdoor experience. The material is super strong, UV resistant and light.

HydroTex® HD is a fabric again made exclusively for us to address our uncompromising need for a light, strong, durable flysheet material. Seams are fully taped for a durable waterproof seal, the tough 75 denier high density polyester has a polyurethane (PU) coating with a 5,000mm hydrostatic head waterproof rating, and it’s fire retardant for safety. This fabric will withstand years of heavy use, no matter how harsh the conditions.

Hydrotex® DP has been created with our Sierra range specifically in mind. For these entry-level tents we wanted a tough, durable fabric that featured a fire-retardant treatment and a polyurethane coating with a 3,000mm hydrostatic head. We developed this embossed 68 denier polyester fabric to suit, taped its seams and twinned it with Oxford polyester pole sleeves for enhanced all-round performance.

HydroTex® 5000 meets the wide spread of demands of outdoor recreation with its combination of durable 75 denier polyester fabric and a 5,000mm waterproof rating plus fire retardant and UV inhibitor treatments. Our uncompromising approach to maintaining standards and pushing boundaries make it a reliable performer in the varying conditions encountered on outdoor trips.

HydroTex® Polycotton looks great, feels great and delivers top technical performance and comfort. The durable woven fabric has a water repellent treatment which encourages rain to run off the tent walls. As the rain gets heavier, the fabric’s fibres close up to form a waterproof seal. Its UV-decay-resistance treatment helps to ensure that it will last for many years with reasonable care. This superb fabric is really appreciated by campers on sunny days as, being breathable, it helps to keep tent interiors comfortably cool compared to conventional materials.

USING OUR OWN TEST FACILITY, COMPLETE WITH RAIN AND WIND MACHINES, WE TEST ALL OF OUR TENT DESIGNS TO THE MAXIMUM TO ENSURE CONTINUED RELIABLE PERFORMANCE OUT IN THE FIELD. We rigorously test our new designs every year. Not because we have a legal obligation but because we believe that it is vital to deliver the highest quality, reliable products possible that perform at their best no matter the conditions. For a start, we have the fabric independently tested prior to overall environmental assessments. Our laboratories check that its performance meets our demanding requirements and matches the hydrostatic head values we have set in advance.

BUZZARD Weighing less than 2 kg the Buzzard is a superb light twoperson tunnel tent that uses a single main hooped pole and two short pre-attached end poles to make it quick and easy to pitch. RAPTOR The award-winning Raptor uses a free-standing tunnel tent design with an extra lateral pole for enhanced stability in challenging conditions. Protecting the environment. We use DAC Green Anodising poles for our Vista tents. These poles are produced in an environmentally safe and responsible process, without nitric or phosphoric acid normally associated with the anodising process. Water consumption is greatly reduced by rinsing with recycled water. We highlight these environmentally friendly poles as DAC GA in our specification panels.

HydroTex® Polycotton looks great, feels great and delivers top technical performance and comfort. The durable woven fabric has a water repellent treatment which encourages rain to run off the tent walls. As the rain gets heavier, the fabric’s fibres close up to form a waterproof seal. Its UV-decay-resistance treatment helps to ensure that it will last for many years with reasonable care. This superb fabric is really appreciated by campers on sunny days as, being breath-able, it helps to keep tent interiors comfortably cool compared to conventional materials.

ROBENS SLEEPING BAGS – 2015 evolves the successful 2014 portfolio by adding of a new range and three sleeping bags with the same quality, performance and value to match our tents and sleeping mats. Trailhead, Appalachian and Caucasus continue unchanged while Far Away gets a new envelope-style bag for enhanced comfort. The new Killarney range features two sleeping bags to provide additional down and synthetic insulation options in the comfortable envelope style that means all groups of outdoor enthusiasts will find something to perfectly match their needs.

Every feature and material used in the construction of the range is carefully selected and has its own unique advantages, adding value, performance and quality to the end product, to give the user the best possible result.

DOWN The Caucasus range uses a high quality 90/10 Duck down and the new Killarney Down uses an 80/20 mix. • Low weight • Excellent levels of insulation • Highly compressible for small pack size • Great breathability • Exceptionally durable with a long lifetime (if kept correctly a down sleeping bag can last for more than 20 years and still perform well)

Robens sleeping bags are tested to the official European Standard – EN13537 – that defines how to test, measure and label a sleeping bag, with the exception of those designed for military use or extreme temperatures. This standard is based on the use of a computercontrolled thermal mannequin to determine the temperature limits of a sleeping bag; the mannequin is placed inside the sample bag in a temperaturecontrolled climate chamber. Tests and measurements are carried out based on the knowledge of how the human body reacts to changing temperatures during sleep to create the recommended temperature limits that appear on our sleeping bags.

The standard is particularly useful in assessing the comparative performance of different bags.

CONSTRUCTION SINGLE LAYER This is a common way to hold synthetic insulation material in place for lightweight bags. The single layer is sandwiched between inner and outer fabrics with stitching running straight through. The result is a succession of lines with reduced insulation around and along the bag where the fill is compressed. We tackle the problem by using loose outers and thus avoiding cold spots anywhere in the bag. Single layer is used in Far Away and Trailhead 1000 sleeping bags. DOUBLE LAYER At Robens, we prefer this method for synthetic fills where more insulation is needed. Two layers of insulating fill are used together in an offset quilting pattern that eliminates any chance of cold spots and maintains the depth of insulation to trap body heat. A loose outer shell rounds off top performance. Double layer is used in Appalachian, Trailhead 1500 and Killarney bags. BOX WALL CONSTRUCTION Down needs room to loft fully and maximise its insulation potential. The internal box walls sewn to the inner and outer create separate chambers to hold the down in place around your body and offer enough space for expansion after compression in a stuff sack. Box wall construction is used in Caucasus and Killarney Down sleeping bags.
