BENALMADENA marked European Day for Cardiovascular Risk Prevention on Tuesday, March 14 with a range of educational activities.
Local councillor for Health, Juan Carrillo, visited an information booth set up on Calle Blas Infante by workers at the Arroyo de la Miel health centre to raise awareness about the importance of preventing cardiovascular diseases, describing it as an important initiative.
According to the World Health Organisation, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide, and premature deaths could be prevented by leading a healthy lifestyle and reducing risk factors.
Shockingly, 17.9 million people die each year from cardiovascular disease, including heart and cerebrovascular disease, onethird of all deaths, a figure that is still rising.
