ELCHE City Council has begun the process of unblocking the 24 new taxi licences that were granted before the pandemic by the Generalitat Valenciana.

This involves a series of authorisations which, in the words of the councillor for Urban Mobility, Jose Claudio Guilabert, “the previous government had in the drawer and refused to take them out.”

The internal process has now begun and will continue for at least a year.

The councillor confirmed that “With these new licences, the number of taxi licence authorisations would be increased to 228. This means we will be able to comply with the correct ratio of one taxi per tition which ended on Sunday, July 9.

For the Real Club Náutico Torrevieja, Adriana Castro, has achieved the seventh position overall and first position among the Spanish entrants in the ILCA 6w sub 19 World Championship.

This has earned her the place to compete in the World Sailing youth world championships.

“Measures have now been put in place in agreement with the taxi associations themselves in view of the supply problems at the airport.”

The councillor added: “Since this government took office the taxi sector has become a priority.”
