WELCOME FROM ANDY
VICE PRESIDENT, SOCIETIES AND ACTIVITIES WELCOME TO EDINBURGH! Coming to university is about so much more than getting a degree, and your students’ association is the best place to start searching for extracurriculars. As well as being a big campaigning organisation it is also the home to student activities – that includes societies, volunteering and loads more! Getting involved with any of these is an easy way to learn new skills, meet new people with the same interests as you and have fun! There are around 240 societies at the University of Edinburgh as well as lots of student groups, so there is sure to be something that interests you. Societies hold regular events and socials and are great for forming communities and support networks away from home. Before you know it you might be helping the committee to run the group! If you’d like to try your hand at volunteering, you can search our database of hundreds of local opportunities, join one of the Volunteering Groups that already exists, or start your own! Alternatively, if charity fundraising is more your thing, Edinburgh Students’ Charities Appeal (ESCA) organises all sorts of amazing fundraising activities including charity hitchhikes across Europe! You’ll find plenty of ways you can put your time and skills to good use by helping out in the local community and beyond.
