University provides you with endless opportunities to broaden your horizons, try out new things and ask as many questions as you need to help you along the way! There are tons of ways to get involved this week and our guide can help you work out where you want to be and when. I’m one of your four full-time student officers and my job is to oversee the events, shops and bars that the Students’ Association provides in each of its four buildings, as well as to make sure that sustainability is central to our services. I’ll be all over campus this week, so be sure to come over and say hi!

WHAT’S ON DAY BY DAY:

After this week I’ll be around all year to help you out, just fire me a message by email (vps@eusa.ed.ac.uk), Twitter (@eusavps) or Facebook (/VicePresidentServices) or visit me in the Students’ Association office based at Potterrow.

ACADEMIC INDUCTION Alongside Edinburgh University Students’ Association’s Welcome Week the University itself will be offering you a warm welcome to your academic studies. You can look out for the University’s Welcome Week logo on communications from your school/college and on signage around the campus. During Welcome Week your school will host a variety of events, including compulsory welcome talks and subject area activities. These events aim to introduce you to the academic staff who will be teaching and supervising you, the administrative staff who support you, and your fellow students. They will discuss important information about beginning your studies here at the University of Edinburgh. Make sure you read the information sent to you by your school for details about your specific school/programme activities. You can find more information about academic events on the new student website: ed.ac.uk/new-students.

Teviot, Underground 9pm-1am EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION

An outstanding band, described as “a surf rock band, but only if your idea of surfing involves being pummelled by a giant wave” — The Van T’s are taking the Scottish festival scene by storm. Complete with sunny 50s jukebox style sound and a twist of cathartic 90s grunge thrown in for good measure. Despite being in their infancy, the raw quality from the twin sister front women pours out from every single note.

SPRING BREAK & BE CHARLOTTE Teviot, Underground 9pm-1am EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION

SUN 11 SEP

Get ready as two fantastic acts line up Teviot’s live music venue tonight! Winners of Best Hip Hop at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards 2015, Spring Break are a vaguely outrageous three piece, hand-crafting screwball anthems, hip hop, scratching, beat boxing and lucid lyricism resulting in expertly crafted and grippingly emotive tracks. A much needed breath of fresh air for any tired soul, Spring Break will be raising the roof of the underground tonight! You’ll definitely want to be there! Be Charlotte is all about damn good vibes. She is an artist/producer with a knack for writing beautifully weighted pop melodies using digital composition and live instrumentation. Breaking the rules, and paving her own way in the industry we can’t wait to hear her soaring pop/rap blends tonight. See Be Charlotte on the small stage while you still have the chance! FATHERSON

WITH SUPPORT FROM HUXTABLE Teviot, Debating Hall 8pm-11pm EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION

FRI 16 SEP

Fatherson know it’s all about the slow build and have been striking a resonant chord with crowds in Scotland for years now. Having gained national support from Huw Stephens, Zane Lowe and Greg James and unexpectedly packing out the 12,000 capacity King Tuts tent at T in the Park, their second album was hugely anticipated and hasn’t disappointed. Having supported arena tours around the country including a summer arena show with Biffy Clyro and selling out the Glasgow ABC in June, we are very honoured to present Fatherson to you, live in the Debating Hall. Supporting Fatherson tonight are the razor sharp riffs and hard hitting beats of Huxtable. The newest two-piece everyone is talking about. Only having two members does not let this band down, already shocking people with their live performances, the Riff-Rock duo have mastered the sound making it unique with nothing to compare. We highly recommend you catch these guys before they are headlining stadiums. FREE WITH WRISTBAND / NO WRISTBAND £8 ALL WELCOME | LIVE ENTERTAINMENT
